Diary Of A Baller: Azar "A.Z." Swain (Boston, MA) Entry #8‏

Azar And Expressions Coach Ty Boswell

Good afternoon Diary, Today is Monday, and it was like the usual Monday routine from day to night. Tonight, I went and worked out with Coach Ty Boswell. There is no such thing as a day off for an athlete. No matter what you do, it always has to be productive to what you want to do in life. There is no easy track to success. There are people coming from every angle to try and stop you from getting where you want to be, but don’t let any of that change you or your mindset. I saw a great quote over the weekend. It was, “When you are going through something hard and wonder where GOD is, remember that the teacher is always quiet during the test”. This quote is true and I know some people do start to give up during hard times. Don’t worry about it. Keep going, it’s only God testing you. Peace Diary.

What Up Diary, Today is Tuesday. I had classes and baseball practice throughout the day. After school, I stayed late to get extra help in a couple of my classes, so that I don’t fall behind in my studies. I then went to the personal trainer and did a workout in the weight room. After all of that, I went home and did my homework for the night. Today was a simple day, and it was one of the more relaxing days for me. I hope everyone had a great day today. Good Night Diary.

What Up Diary, I’ve talked about balancing school, sports, and a social life before, but I want to go back to that topic. The reason I want to go back to it is that I saw a message by one of my former teammates. It said, “I’d rather have a career than a social life” – Izaiah Winston. This one saying sums up everything that I mean when I talk about balancing everything. People should really think about this. What do you want more? Will you settle with being good and being the most popular? Or do you want to be great? People have to realize that if you work hard enough to become great, the popularity, money, and other things will come naturally. Do what you HAVE to do NOW, so that you can do what you WANT to do LATER – Cornell Mills. Peace Diary.

What Up Diary, Today is Thursday. Since there was no Expressions practice tonight, I just headed to my house, did my homework and did some core workouts. I did 100 pushups, 150 sit ups, 200 squats, 150 calf raises, and 50 pull-ups. From past experiences, I have realized that when I do core workouts the night’s before games, I tend to have much better games on the weekends. Everybody has different “pregame” rituals or things that they do before games, and this is mine. I always have to workout the night before a game so that I can play good. That’s me, and it will always be me. I am who I am. A lot of people who haven’t seen me in a while have commented on my body in a good way. I have to keep it up because I may not be that aggressive in basketball but football season is coming! Good Night Diary.

Good Afternoon Diary, Today is Friday, and it was one of the best days in a long time. It all started off with a full day of classes from 8am-2:30pm. Then, it was time for my baseball game. We loss 2-1, but it didn’t really matter to me. After that, there was a party/get together for the middle school at my school. Almost everybody was there, but I spent this year’s Middle School Party differently than I spent last year’s. Instead of doing all of the “fun activities” that they had planned for us, I just hung out with two of my really good friends. I honestly have to say it was the most fun I’ve had in awhile. It’s always good to spend the free time you have with friends that mean something to you. As soon as that was over, I was on my home to do my “pregame” workout and to get some sleep. I have a 9 o’clock game tomorrow in the Mass States. Good Night Diary.

What Up Diary, Today we had our first game of states, and it was an early morning one at 9am. We played my old team MABC and came out victorious. We were also undermanned without two of our players due to Saturday classes at their schools. We still got the job done, and were able to relax until our next 2 games tomorrow. Since it was so early after our first game, I decided to hang out with my boy Jermaine Samuels, and watch his little brother Jalen play. Jalen and his team won both of their games by a comfortable margin, so it turned out to be a good day after all. It feels like my team and I haven’t played a game together in like a month, but I was just glad to be back out there with my squad. We all base our game off of each other. I can’t wait for tomorrow. Peace Diary.

What Up Diary, Today is Sunday, but it’s not Championship Sunday. The Final Four takes place in 2 weeks, so today we had 2 games and one of them was the Elite 8 game. Our first game was at 8am against GBL from Cambridge, MA. We ended up winning it after a slow start. Our next game was later on in the day at 5pm against the BSS. There were a lot of people in attendance. Everybody played good together, and I felt the chemistry flowing when we were out there. We ended up winning, so we advance to the Final Four in 2 weeks. I can’t wait until the next time we are able to be back out there. Expressions17u is heading to Dallas, TX this upcoming weekend, so it will be interesting to see if they can hold on to their undefeated season on the EYBL Circuit. Man, I love my team! Peace Diary.
