Diary Of A Baller: Ben Roy (Spring Lake Heights, NJ) Entry #4

Ben Roy Getting Busy

What’s up Basketball Spotlight World? Welcome to Journal Entry #4 for Ben Roy.

Monday: Monday I woke up still injured from playing over the weekend. After I realized I was not feeling great, I decided to take a little mental and physical break from working out for a couple days. I wanted to get back to feeling 100%, so this would be the best idea. I went to school that morning so sore and run down, but I started to feel better as the day went on. After school I went to the Atlantic Club with one of my friends, we just messed around a little bit. We shot for about 2 hours but didn’t go hard, so my back felt fine when we were done. I came home that night and stretched for a while, and it really made my back feel better.

Diary Of A Baller: Ben Roy (Spring Lake Heights, NJ) Entry #3

What’s up Basketball Spotlight World?

Welcome to Journal Entry #3 for Ben Roy.

Monday: Waking up Monday morning wasn’t bad at all. Since I didn’t play the weekend before, I had all the energy in the world when I rolled out of bed. I went to school that morning knowing the week was going to be laid back since we had PARCC testing this week. After school, I decided to go up to the park and get some shots up, and luckily for me, there was pretty good pickup games going on. I got loose and the guys asked me to hop in, so I ended up playing pickup for a couple hours. It was good to play against older and stronger guys and I could really try some new moves and finishes which was nice too.

Diary Of A Baller: Ben Roy (Spring Lake Heights, NJ) Entry #2

What’s up Basketball Spotlight World?

Welcome to journal entry #2 for Ben Roy.

Monday: I woke up Monday morning extremely tired and in a ton of pain. Earlier the past weekend, I really hurt my back and it was still affecting me when I woke up. I went to school that morning and the whole day went pretty smoothly. Since the lower grades still had standardized testing, my teachers didn’t feel the need to give us any homework, which I was psyched about. I was expecting to workout on Monday night, but due to my back, I was physically unable to. So, after school I lightly got some shots up and heated my back and stretched the rest of the day. Before I went to bed, I lifted for about 30 minutes and was really working on perfecting my form with lifting. I did some chest, shoulder and bicep work. I am really working on getting stronger heading into high school next year.

The 6th Grade Division of the AC Showcase featured some of the top teams in the region. Here’s our first look at our top performers.

Basketball Spotlight AC Showcase 6th Grade Top Performers Part 1

Ahmad Nowell Forward (Fidonce) – Nowell was like Lebron James in the 6th Grade division. He could dribble, pass, score, and defend and was dominating at times that we watched. We saw him make a no look pass that resulted in an And 1 and we also liked the fact that he moved without the ball when one time we saw him make a great cut to the basket and his teammate found him for an easy bucket. He was very hard to contain and he was at his best attacking the rim. He finished with 10 points in the championship and 17 points in their semifinal win against the Gauchos where he lived at the FT line.

William Norman

The 7th Grade Division at the Atlantic City Showcase was the toughest by far. Here’s a look at Part 2 Top Performers from the event.

Basketball Spotlight Atlantic City Showcase 7th Grade Top Performers Part 2

William Norman Forward (NJ Bulldogs)- The walking double-double lived up to his name as he dominated the paint while leading NJ Bulldogs to the final four. He can literally carry defenders to the cup for buckets or usually ends up at the charity stripe. He’s not a player that needs to motivated because he enters the game with a mean streak. He averaged nearly 20 points a contest and over 10 boards. He’s a fierce competitor.

The 8th Grade Division at the Basketball Spotlight Atlantic City Showcase featured some of the top talent in the region. Here’s Part 2 of our Top Performers.

Basketball Spotlight Atlantic City Showcase 8th Grade Top Performers Part 2

Ben Roy Guard (Team Rio) – In today’s era of basketball floor spacing and stretching the floor with the 3ball seems like the way the game has evolved to. Roy is Rio’s floor spacer with a sweet stroke behind the line. Ben also can be a secondary ball handler and as he continues to gain confidence with his ball handling we see him moving over to the PG position long term. He has a high IQ and can score from all three levels. He finished with 16 points in the semifinal.

Diary Of A Baller: Jaquan Harris (North Brunswick, NJ) Entry #8

Jaquan Harris

What’s Up Basketball Spotlight World, It’s Jaquan Harris and I’m back with my Diary Of A Baller. Here’s how my week went.

Monday: I took a day off from boxing and just went to the gym on the weekend we had our last session in Elevate Hoops Proving grounds so I had to be on my best. I worked out extra hours with my shot to make sure I would be the most confident I can be. When I’m confident is when it’s the hardest to stop me. Me still trying to prove myself is what keeps me going throughout the weeks of me training.

Diary Of A Baller: Jaquan Harris (North Brunswick, NJ) Entry #7

Jaquan and His Brother Jamir

What’s Up Basketball Spotlight World, It’s Jaquan Harris and I’m back with my Diary Of A Baller. Here’s how my week went.

Monday: After school I had boxing, I was looking forward to going today because my trainer was going to show me some new things. After we did all of our lifting and conditioning we put on the gloves and he began to show me scenarios where I could use different types of punches throughout the time I was there. I’m always open to learn new things but when it’s something that can help me my whole life I’m always ready to listen.
