12U AAU Nationals Update: Team Battle Cruises

Vaughn Covington (Team Battle)

Team Battle used a group effort to run past TGFB of Florida 60-30. Tyus Battle and Jamir Harris handled the scoring while Vaughn Covington ran the show. Joseph Johnson made some good plays for the Florida team.

Top Performers

Vaughn Covington Guard (Team Battle)- Covington really impressed me with his vocal skills and the way he ran the team. His experience and court savvy is what this talented squad needed. On defense he’s a total ball hound. He totally took the other teams point guard out of the game.

Jamir Harris Forward (Team Battle)- Harris continued his good play today. He did his usual damage converting among the trees but I like his improved outside shot. He shoots the rock with confidence and even lets his go from the triple threat position.

Tyus Battle Guard (Team Battle)- “Kid Mamba” started out on fire knocking down his first two treys. Covington ball handling allows Battle to go to the wing and apply pressure to the defense. In the open floor he showed some promise and even gave more effort on the defensive end.

Brad Hawkins Guard (Team Battle)- Hawkins gives TB another viable defender and shooter. His stroke is better than I thought but he does hold the MDC single game scoring record. Hawkins seems to fit in well with his new squad.

Joseph Johnson Forward (TGFB)- Johnson got in early foul trouble which hampered his play. I like his length and his ability to put the rock on the floor. If he controls his emotions a little more he could turn out to be special.

Marcus Dodson Guard (TGFB)- Dodson did his best to handle the pressure from TB. He as some craftiness in his game and was able to penetrate the lane a little. He’s a heady guard.
