Diary Of A Baller: Otis "The General" Livingston (NJ Got Game) Entry #20

What’s happening everyone?,

This week in school, we just got back into the groove of things, as far as school work and homework. In language arts we are studying Shakespeare and we are having a field trip to a play about his life. I will let you guys know how that play goes. In math we are working solving inequalities and figuring out how to find the number of the variables. It can get confusing sometimes, so I have to stay on top of it.

As far as basketball goes, I was just resting up my knee for the weekend games against West Orange and The Pirates. I was hype going into the championship game of my 8th grade year. We already won 2 in a row and we were going for the 3peat. West Orange is a tough team that you can’t sleep on. They have a good coach and some good players. We started out slow and we found ourselves down 14 to 4. We got some rebounds and fast breaks and we were tied at 17-17. It was pretty much even for the rest of the half and we were tied 32- 32. We actually went up for a little bit but they killed us on the boards and got put backs or fast breaks. At the end we had to foul and they pulled away, and won by 10. I was so mad when the final buzzer rang and our season, hopes of a 3peat, and chances of getting into the record books, were over. I was so disappointed in myself, because I felt like I waited too late into the game to try and do anything. That’s one thing I will learn, is that when you see your team unraveling, do something. That’s a sour taste that will be in my mouth for a while, but it happens and you have to learn from it and move on.

On Sunday we were supposed to play King Street in the semi finals in the Jersey City league, but they forfeited so we were already in the chip. We had to watch Pirates play Linden, but I went to my sister’s dorm at St. Peters College which was around the corner from the gym. I hardly see her nowadays so I took advantage of the time and hung out with her and her roommate. After that I went down to the gym and saw the end of the Pirates and Linden game. Pirates were up by 7 but linden had some baskets but missed their free throws and pirates had some easy layups. They ended up winning by about 8. There was a 10 minute break then we played pirates for the chip. We got an early lead on them and kept going. I have to give a shout out to Isaiah, Kyle, Chima, and Keyaire for getting the rebounds and pushing it out to the guards which got us easy baskets. I was able to get a lot of rest on my knee because of the large margin which I like because I felt refreshed when I went back into the game. We ran our new play and it worked perfectly. We got easy layups.

Well that’s pretty much it for my week, stay tuned for next time.

The General is OUT!
