In a thriller Team Action held on held on to defeat the NJ Shore Shots 47-44 to win the Basketball Spotlight Memorial Day Classic 8th Grade Blue Division title. Congrats to both teams reaching the finals and to Team Action winning a crown in their Spotlight debut.

EXPRESSIONS ELITE

Expressions Elite (Black) used a huge second half to run past Team Final 55-41 to win the Basketball Spotlight Memorial Day Classic 8th Grade Orange Division title. This game featured some of the top talent on the East Coast and congratulations to both teams for making the finals.

Basketball Spotlight has returned with the Summer Super Showcase Sessions 1 & 2. This event will bring together the top 6th, 7th and 8th Graders in the region. Players will be separated by grade and do battle in two games will equal substitution in front of Basketball Spotlight scouts and camera men. We will take Covid-19 precautions concerning play and scheduling.

Hoop Star Dies From Tragic Accident (RIP Jo Jo)

Basketball Spotlight would like to send our deepest condolences to the family of Jomani “Jo Jo” Wright. Wright lost his life from a tragic car accident. Jomani starred at Basketball Spotlight during his days of playing with Riverside Hawks. The southpaw guard thrilled Spotlight fans with his tenacious playing style and willingness to compete against bigger competition. He received several writeups and videos on our platform from his performances. 

The basketball community is saddened by this tragedy and a Go Fund Me page has been started to help the family during these tough times. If you feel the need to support the family the link is below.

Breakdown: King is a strong tough wing forward that puts you in the mindset of a left-handed Draymond Green. He can do everything, and he affects that game in such a positive way. He is a high IQ player that hustles on every play. He has a good handle and can finish around the basket efficiently. He has a nice 3 level scoring package using floaters at the rim along with his mid-range and long-range jumpers. He took over the game we watched.

Super Showcase Profile: Landon Kygrier (Guilford, CT)

Name: Landon Kygrier 

Hometown: Guilford, CT 

Position: Forward 

Class: 2026 

Breakdown: This do it all Wing was unstoppable scoring from anywhere he wanted on the floor. With good size standing at 6’4 he was a matchup nightmare because his skill set, and motor were elite at the 7th grade level. Landon could dribble, pass, and shoot with range out to the three-point line. He can shoot off the dribble and grabbed many rebounds and he was gone the other way converting easy buckets for his team. Defensively he competed blocking and altering many shots. Krygier was the Most Outstanding Player of the 7th Grade division.
