Deondre Vilmer: My FIBA Experience Final Entry

June 15th

What's up? Today our last game versus Mexico was so early that the gym was very empty. We defeated Mexico in a close battle because they came to play which made the game exciting and intense. I got what I wanted and that's to leave Uruguay with a win. We finished with a 2-3 record and I'm not satisfied with that but our team had less than a week to practice. It was most of our first time playing with each other.

My time in Uruguay was exciting mostly everything went well. I'm proud to say I had the chance to play for my country at a very high level Not much kids say that everyday so I was just happy to be on the team and actually play so I thank God for this opportunity to play for my country. I can't wait to get back to Abaco to work on my weaknesses and meet friends and family. I learned a lot from this great experience that will make me a better player so I'm thankful for my teammates and coaches for showing me new things I can apply to my game.

June 17th

Hey we're finally done playing in Uruguay so the majority of the team woke up late since we didn't have any more games. Our flight left at 8:45 pm so we just stayed in the hotel all day and waited. First we have to take a nine hour flight to Miami. We won't arrive until 5:30am Monday morning before catching another flight at 1 pm in the afternoon. Luckily Miami and the Bahamas are close together so it's only like a 30 minute flight. This was a lot of flying for me especially since it’s something I really don’t enjoy.

I'm just anxious to get home because I get frustrated when I’m waiting in airports. Every time I think about home it just excites me since I haven't been there in a while. This Uruguay trip was fun and a great experience but I'm ready to get home so I can see my friends, and family. The years I've been away felt like forever so I think it's time I meet them all again. I pray I have safe flights through it all.
