Caleb Tregre (Elite Cavaliers)
The Elite Cavaliers Best Of The Best Showcase had plenty of talent. Basketball Spotlight was in the building and we decided to break our reports down by position. Finally, here’s a breakdown of the top floor generals in the building.
Day 1 Top Performers (Point Guards)
Caleb Tregre (Elite Cavaliers, Ohio)- Tregre might be the top floor general in the country for this age level. He showed tremendous poise and court savvy against the Full Court Athletes. Every time things got a little rattled Caleb settled his squad and reset the tempo. He also will drain a big trey if you back off him.
Corey Hicks (Detroit Showtime)- Hicks is a serious point guard that puts tremendous pressure on the defense. His crossover is strong, crisp and allows him to score at will. He had defenders on skates at games. This Motown product name will ring bells for a long time.
Carsen Edwards (Rytes Warriors, Texas)- Edwards is as tough as they come. He pushes the rock like a blur and squeezes between defenders very easily. The stage was big against the Cincinnati Lakers and Carsen stepped up before fouling out on a controversial call. This kid is serious.
Joseph Caldwell (Rytes Warriors, Texas)- Caldwell also stepped up against the Lakers. His defensive pressure is outstanding and he never stops moving. On offense he isn’t afraid to take the big shot and gets into the lane whenever he wants. His ball handling was a joy to watch.
Julian Miranda (Full Court Athletes, Texas)- Miranda was perhaps the shortest point guard in the building but played like a giant. His court vision was evident early and often as he breezed past defenders. Miranda played well against the Elite Cavaliers before wearing down late in the game.
Kyran McClure (Ohio Warriors)- McClure has a Jalen Rose type game. He’s a lanky southpaw with good size and scoring ability. He doesn’t have blinding speed but makes up for it with his length and a high basketball IQ. Size matters
Roderick Caldwell (Cincinnati Lakers)- Caldwell managed the game well against the Rytes Warriors. He’s not as flashes as others on this list but his substance is apparent. He read the defense well and drained a long trey to tie the game up late. He’s very smooth with the rock.
Brandon Knapper (Charleston Cavaliers)- Speaking of smooth look no further than Knapper. Brandon crossed several defenders when playing against the Ohio Prep Hoyas. His ball handling allowed him to get anywhere on the floor. Once he got into the lane his scoring ability took over. Dude is nice!
