Diary Of A Baller: Anthony "Champ" Mosely (Delaware) Entry #16

What’s up basketball spotlight fam it’s your boy Champ with another week of highlights. This week was special because we were getting ready to play for the right to say we are the best middle school team in DE. The week started off great with a day off for President’s day and then it was back to practice on Tuesday to start preparing to win the championship of the Capital Classic Middle School tournament. The team and I worked really hard on all parts of the game from offense to defense including game situations and also conditioning. At the end of practice Thursday night I felt like we were ready to go to war. Our first game Friday night was against an archrival Smyrna Middle who we played and defeated during the regular season. The game was close early, as they came out really aggressive in an attempt to redeem their 40pt loss earlier in the year. But by the beginning of the fourth quarter we had the game well in hand with a score of 42-16. We ended up beating Smyrna 52-43 to move into the championship game against the Northern Delaware powerhouse Moyer Academy from Wilmington.

Moyer Academy according to most basketball fans were favored to beat us because their team had 4 players ranked in DE top 20 for there classes including Marcus “Pretty Boy” Floyd, Deshawn Dorsett, Quentin “Chairman of the Boards” Nesmith, and 6’5” Derrick “Air” Mcnair. Saturday night the gym was packed from wall to wall to see this game it was amazing the # of people that came to watch this highly publicized Middle School Game. As I looked around the gym before the game I noticed that most of the major AAU teams in DE had a rep there checking things out. Honestly speaking that was the most people I had ever seen come to watch me play.

We jumped on Moyer quick and took an early 9 pt lead. From there it was a back and forth game with them never gaining the lead. I was having a tough night with nothing going in the hole for me to the tune of 2-13 coming into the 4th quarter. With all the momentum swinging in Moyers favor I looked up and the score was 31-31 and it was on. At that point in the game something inside me or in my head brought up a memory and a feeling of wanting to win at all costs and fortunately I had something to give Moyer and everything started clicking and I hit 3 threes, two layups, and a crowd pleasing base line step back fadeaway with three defenders in my face jumper and two free throws to score 17 straight to lead my team to the Championship with a 48-36 hard fought victory.

In conclusion, it was a great week for me we won the Championship, I won the MVP award, and my team finished the season an undisputed 13-0. Now my focus is shifting to the AAU season and look forward to seeing a lot of spotlight fam on the circuit.

Champ Out !!!
