Diary Of A Baller: Marquise Walker (Chicago, Illinois) Entry #2

Marquise Walker (Chicago, Ill)

Hi, it’s Marquise Walker again with my weekly diary.

Monday, my father gave me the day off from my workouts after a long weekend so I used that time to get extra sleep.

Tuesday, I woke up at 6:00 am and got my workout and running in. Today I saw a video of myself on middleschoolhoops.com making a nice pass to Balsa Koprivica for a dunk. He’s a great big man. I went back to St. Joseph HS to play open gym this week. I made some adjustments and played a lot better. I feel more comfortable with the speed of the game at the varsity level now.

Wednesday, I woke up and worked out again today. When I got to school I learned that my friends found out I would be leaving next week to transfer to a school in Kentucky. If you don't already know, I'm transferring to South Warren Middle School in Bowling Green, KY. I'm in 8th grade but I'm going to be the starting PG on the South Warren HS varsity basketball team. It’s sad to leave my close friends behind but i have to do what i have to do. When I got home from school I was able to see the report Clark Francis wrote about me from last weekend’s camp. I have to say it was really good and he thinks I'm a great player. He say's I'm better than where he has me ranked (#24).

Thursday, as usual I woke up at 6:00 am and worked out. This is very hard some mornings. Don't get me wrong I want to be great but days like this I just don't feel like working out. School was pretty normal today except for people wishing me luck in Kentucky. I went to the open gym at St. Joseph today. I matched up a lot with top 100 PG Glyn Watson (Nebraska). I thought I did a lot better. My dad told me that your moves can work on anybody and that gave me the confidence to try them on Glyn. I hit a long jumper on him, I scored on him on the fast break, and on one play I used my moves and beat him off the dribble pretty good. I also stole the ball from him on one occasion. I messed up some too. Glyn is a great player and he constantly talked to me about how i could be a better player as well as the some of the other coaches on St. Joseph. I also met the head coach from DePaul University. His name is Oliver Purnell.

Friday, I worked out at 6am and headed to school. This is my last day before I leave for good. I’m' going to miss my friends and they let me know they feel the same way. I went to a HS football game at Proviso West High School with my best friend Kayla. She's a freshman at West. It was fun at the game and really loud. Kayla and I had a great time.

Saturday, the whole family went out to the movies. My mom, dad, and my younger brother and sisters. I saw Maze Runner. We took my little sisters to Chuckie Cheese and I chased them around and helped them play their games. We got home and had some Chicago deep dish pizza form Giordanos. Afterwards, I began to prepare for my trip by washing all my clothes in the basement but the video game is down there so I washed and played 2k with my dad and brother for the rest of the day.

Sunday, I woke up and worked out again. I finished laundry and went to church today. I spent my last day in Chicago on the Westside with all my cousins, aunts, and uncles.

See you next week
