Basketbull Columbus Day Classic Top Performers 14U

Chris Atkinson Is Off To A Great Start This Season

Basketball Spotlight traveled to Springfield, Massachusetts for the Basketbull Columbus Day Classic. Here’s a look at the top 14U performers that impressed us on Day 1.

14U Top Performers

Chris Atkinson Guard (Team Scan)- Wow, Atkinson played tremendous a game against CBC. He played the passing lanes like a safety while picking off several passes. On the offensive end he used great court vision and blazing speed to bring terror to the defense. Right now he has a huge impact on the game like we predicted.

Manny Taylor Forward (Team Scan)- Taylor was a force on the glass and seems to be moving around injury free. His size and long arms allowed him to snatch several offensive rebounds and convert buckets. Taylor’s is extremely strong inside.

Bryce Aiken Guard (Team Scan)- Aiken once again played an intelligent and effective game. He’s difficult to guard because he handles the rock low and moves very quickly. On defense he’s a true pest while being a ball hawk. I love watching this kid use his floater to score.

Justin Salem Guard (Team Scan)- After an ice cold first half Salem came out on fire in the second stanza. He nailed several deep treys and finished things off with a high tear drop in the lane. When he’s on, his shooting puts a lot of pressure on the defense.

Temple Gibbs Guard (Team Scan)- Temple’s improved quickness has helped him become very effective on the defensive end. He picked off several passes which started fast breaks for his squad. On offense he made some tough moves inside the lane while initiating contact.

Derrick Boyd Guard (CBC)- Boyd came hard at the NJ State champs. He attacked the cup and used his strength to draw fouls. He could have been a little more effective if he didn’t settle for his jump shot too often. This kid has a fierce approach.

Ashon Avent Guard (CBC)- “Chewy” spent the evening playing the guard spot. Is ball handling has improved and he seems more comfortable directing traffic. His next move in his transition process should be to develop an outside shot. This would definitely benefit him once he reaches high school.

Juwan Gooding Guard (Expressions)- Gooding made a short appearance in their blow out win. He showed the ability to get quick buckets on drives and in transition. Now he needs to work on becoming more of a pass first point guard. This will make him a more attractive recruit on the high school level.

Chris Baldwin Forward (Expressions)- Baldwin presents great size especially anchoring the defense. On offense he roams the perimeter and has good range but I think he needs to post up a little more to show versatility.
