Diary Of A Baller: Tyler McQuaid (Maywood, NJ) Final Entry

Hey guys!

It is hard to believe this is my last Basketball Spotlight entry. I have to say, I enjoyed writing about my weeks and activities. I just want to thank Mike Melton from Basketball Spotlight for giving me this opportunity. It truly was an honor. I returned from camp Saturday. As you know I participated in the Future All American camp at East Stroudsburg University. It was another great experience.

We worked out , played half and full court scrimmages and games. There was a lot of talent. Not only was it fun to play but it was great so watch. Luckily, I was with a lot of my teammates and friends and had a blast. Since I have been home, I have been working out in the mornings. I not only condition but run drills. And of course, I am up at the park playing pick up games.

I will be attending the Future Phenom Camp at the end of August. I can't wait to go and learn more. School will be starting soon. I am super excited to be a freshman at Bergen Catholic and play basketball there. I am looking forward to the workouts and practices leading up to the season.

I will see a lot of you on the court and can’t wait for my next chapter in High School. Goodbye for now- stay safe and have a good school year everyone.

MVP Damez Bethea (MPO)- Bethea was an extra coach on the floor. This baby baller ran the point and barked out orders to his teammates. He also was a ball hawk while pressuring the rock 94 feet. I see good things coming for this youngster.

Hey guys!

This week has been quiet. I have been continuing with morning workouts and running drills to keep myself busy. I also have been doing pick up games at my town park. I picked up my mac today for school. I am working on setting up needed apps and my summer school assignments. I thought I would never say this but, I am looking forward to school starting. It will be nice to be back to a routine and organized workouts.

This Wednesday I leave for Hoop Group camp at East Stroudsburg University. I participated in this camp a few years ago and liked it a lot. I will also be attending the Future Phenom Camp at the end of August which I am looking forward to. I'll keep you posted on camp when I return. Stay tuned!

Diary Of A Baller: Tyler McQuaid (Maywood, NJ) Entry #6

It’s Tyler McQuaid and I am back for another week. It began Monday with a win over Nova UFND. The win put us in the championship bracket for the Made Hoops finale. Up next, we ran into one of the top teams in the country. (Nightrydas) from Miami. They had too much size for us and shot a high percentage from the field. It was a disappointing way to end the tournament. With that said, I always believe you can take out of a loss as much as a win. It really helped me gage where I am and what I need to focus on for my journey in high school.

I have so much to be thankful for through my middle school years. Like I said earlier, the AAU world has helped me and gave me the opportunity to travel all over the country and more importantly build relationships with my teammates. They always work hard and we all support each other (Legacy).

I spent the rest of the week watching and supporting my friends and high-school teammates at Peach Jam (EBYL). It was fun basketball and it helped me understand where my game needs to be next year when I arrive. When I got back home, I was right back at it in the morning. I went up to the park and started shooting and running drills. The evenings are full of pick up games. Stay tuned. FOCUS is where my head is now.

Diary Of A Baller: Tyler McQuaid (Maywood, NJ) Entry #5

Hello Basketball Spotlight World,

It's Tyler McQuaid and I'm back with another Diary Of A Baller entry. Hey guys! I had a great week with my family in Key West. Everyday we had an activity planned which was a great experience. We swam with the dolphins, went snorkeling off a catamaran and jet skied around the Island. I faced some of my fears, being in the Gulf of Mexico waters. I must say the water is a beautiful blue. It was really nice to be with just family and bond. We had great dinners, shopped and enjoyed our hotel grounds. My brother and I played corn hole every night at the hotel and we had a family volleyball game.

I flew to Georgia from Fort Lauderdale Friday night to start Made Hoops. Our first game we played NYBA. We pulled out a win by 4 points. The next game we played Base Fundamentals. We started out slow and just couldn't get it going. We are 1 and 1 now. We need a win tomorrow morning in order for us to advance. Wish me luck!

Diary Of A Baller: Tyler McQuaid (Haywood, NY) Entry #4

This week has been very low key. I have spent an hour each morning lifting waits along with pushups and situps. Monday night, I headed over to Citi Field for a Mets game with family and friends. The Mets played The Brewers. Citi Field is one of my favorite ballparks.

On Tuesday and Wednesday I spent my evenings up at Memorial Park playing pickup games all night. I had a Legacy AAU game on Thursday over at Paterson Catholic gym. We wound up pulling a win out at the end. I played well and am amping myself up for Agusta! (Made Hoops). Over the weekend I spent time at my friends pool and getting ready to watch the Connor Mcgregor fight.

Monday morning I am flying to Key West for my family vacation. It will be nice to spend time together and relax. We have a bunch of activities planned during the week which will be fun. On Friday we leave and my dad and I are flying to Georgia. Stay Tuned!

Diary Of A Baller: Tyler McQuaid (Maywood, NJ) Entry #3

Hello Basketball Spotlight World,

It's Tyler McQuaid and I'm back with another Diary Of A Baller entry.

Summer has officially started. I have had the opportunity to sleep in a little and relax in Long Beach Island. I came home Monday for our last games at Beat the Clock Tournament. We beat DePaul in the semis and TPS in the final. It was a nice start to my high school career.

Throughout the week I worked out with Will Richardson, a senior at Bergen Catholic. We were able to work on drills and spend hours on the shooting gun. I'm preparing and trying to get ready for Made Hoops starting July 16 in Georgia. It will be my last middle school tournament.

Overall, this week has been a little more laid back and I was able to spend time with my friends. Today is the Fourth of July. I am headed up to my family's lake house at Greenwood Lake. I enjoy going there and spending time with everyone. We have a pontoon boat and a wave runner. It's a fun time.

Enjoy your Fourth everyone. Stay tuned.

Name: Aaron Feath

Team: United NJ

Position: Point Guard

Class: 2028

Breakdown: This key has serious poise and feel for the game at a young age. He knew how to play the pick and roll game while also scoring the rock from all three levels. His team relied on him a lot to carry the scoring load and he obliged. Make sure you get a chance to check out Aaron very soon at a gym near you.

In The Spotlight: Jackson Powell (Team New England)

Name: Jackson Powell

Position: Forward

Team: Team New England

Class: 2025

Analysis: Powell is a long forward that had a motor. He brought the energy and effort on every play on both ends of the floor. He did most of his work around the basket and when fouled he could knock down his free throws. He finished with 12 points in the game we saw.

In The Spotlight: Kiaan Kirkwood (MSU Skyliners Elite)

Name: Kiaan Kirkwood

Position: Guard

Team: MSU Skyliners Elite

Class: 2025

Analysis: Kiian was the team’s leading scorer in the game we watched. He was always in attack mode trying to get buckets. He could knock down the 3-point shot or score at the rim. He also could convert from the free throw line. Defensively he was able to get some steals and convert them into instant offense on the other end of the floor. He finished with 14 points in the game we watched.

In The Spotlight: Myles Parker (MSU Skyliners Elite)

Name: Myles Parker

Position: Guard

Team: MSU Skyliners Elite

Class: 2025

Analysis: Parker is a big lefty point guard that handles most of the lead guard duties for his squad. You can tell he has a high IQ, and he makes the right play while navigating the defense. He knows when to push the ball or slow it down based on the situation in the game. He has range out to the 3-point line. He had 10 markers in the game we watched.
