Diary Of A Baller: Tyler McQuaid (Maywood, NJ) Entry #2

Hello Basketball Spotlight World,

It's Tyler McQuaid and I'm BACK AT IT!

Monday kicked off with a great workout with my new teammates and upper classmates at Bergen Catholic. Drills, conditioning and learning plays. It’s such a great feeling to be part of such a rich tradition. Coach Armstrong is so detailed and committed to running a program that is run like a well-oiled machine. I am learning and listening to every word. I am locked in. Being around these upper class-man that have been part of this, is a true honor. I am trying to pick up on every little detail. I look around the gym and see all division 1 athletes around me. It’s a little intimidating. In the evenings the summer league games are going on in Mountainside NJ.

Monday evening I had my first Varsity experience. I was extremely nervous and had no idea what to expect. It was vs St Joes, another school which I grew up watching and dreamed of playing. Well the time was here. I got sporadic minutes here and there, a couple of rebounds and a turnover. I had some open shots but was a little gun shy. Bergen Catholic won the game. Later that evening, I went on to play with the JV team. We played Newark Academy. Close game throughout and we pulled away in the end. I had a couple of buckets and assists.

Later in the week we played Gil St Bernard. The amount of talent on the floor was insane. I was able to get some minutes and scored my first Varsity points. Later that evening, I played JV against Ramapo. This was a close game at the half and lets just say the 2 half did not belong to us. A Lot of my off nights I spent up at the park. We play a lot of pickup games and let loose. Its Memorial Park in Maywood. It has great courts and all come from surrounding towns to ball.

Saturday morning, I took my placement test for Bergen Catholic. After a long week and getting my first taste, I am headed down to LBI with friends. I am going to put the ball down and hang on the beach. Thanks for reading! STAY TUNED
