Diary Of A Baller: Tyler McQuaid (Maywood, NJ) Entry #1

Hello Basketball Spotlight World

My name is Tyler McQuaid. I would like to first thank Mr. Melton for giving me this opportunity. There have been many great players before me and it is an honor to have this chance to have people get to know me off the court as well as on the court.

My journey began in the third grade, with a program Playtime. It was my first experience in the AAU world. It was an unbelievable experience and helped me learn and understand the game at a level that has allowed me to continue today. I have built great relationships and continue to play with a majority of those kids today. I later went on to Ring City. I was a little nervous for the transition, as I was at Playtime for four years. The transition was made easy as the kids and coaching staff was also a close family program.

When I entered my eighth-grade year, I had no idea what lay ahead. Due to the pandemic, all organized basketball was shut down including school. I decided to reclass and was offered a great opportunity to attend Saddle River Day School for a reclass year. I resumed basketball with a program called Garden State Bounce. It was an excellent program that gave me an outlet and a chance to dive back in.

I am currently playing with Legacy that I have been playing with since seventh grade. I would like to thank the programs and coaches who have taught me so much over the years. Ralph Brown, Mike Richardson (Playtime) Maria Harper (Ring City) Jason Coleman (Garden State Bounce) and El Tariq (Legacy). I truly believe I have been surrounded by the best coaches and programs that have helped me on and off the court.

My middle school invited us back this week to have an official graduation with my 2020 class. It was a great night. I am looking forward to the next chapter in my life, where I will be attending Bergen Catholic High School and continuing my basketball life.

Stay tuned!!!
