Mid Atlantic AAU 13U Championship Recap: Youth Interlock Gets It Done!

Youth Interlock Propels To Title

Jorge Rodriquez and Wamere Murphy combined for 22 points as Youth Interlock defeated Team Kobe 62-55 to win the Mid Atlantic AAU 13 and Under title. Brandon Austin finished with 21 points in the loss.

Spotlight Players

Jorge Rodriquez Forward (Youth Interlock)- Rodriquez plays a lot bigger than his size and that was on display in the finals. During this back and forth contest he scored a couple of tough baskets inside over a few shot blockers. He also stuck his head inside and fought for a few boards and loose balls.

Wa’mere Murphy Forward (Youth Interlock)- It was evident yesterday that YI are a better team when Murphy is on the floor. He brings so much energy and talent inside on both ends of the floor but he needs to work on controlling his emotions when the game heats up. This mental adjustment will be critical if this group wants to make a run at the National title.

Austin Tilghman Guard (Youth Interlock)- Austin played good defense on CJ Wolfe and came up big for his squad on the offensive end in the second half. Shep Garner and Wa’mere Murphy were on the bench in foul trouble, so Tilghman picked up the scoring load until they returned.

Brandon Austin Forward (Team Kobe)- Austin looked a little more comfortable playing with his injured wrist. I thought he should have been a little more offensively aggressive at the end of the game but he just has pass first instincts. Most of the spectators marveled at how he towered over everyone else on the floor but handled the pill like a pint size guard.

Anthony Downing Guard (Team Kobe)- Downing came in and gave Team Kobe a spark on the defensive end when they made a strong run in the closing moments. The little showed a lot of heart.
