Melton's Mailbag: 7/17/08

As you know through our polls we at Basketball Spotlight like to have the fan input. We decided to take it to another level. We have developed the Melton’s Mailbag. The Melton Mailbag will contain 4 questions from you the fans that we will post and answer on our page. We will pick the four questions we feel are the best for that week.

Brad From Mississippi:
Mike, I saw you compared Javon Felix to DJ Augustine the lottery draft pick, do you think he has a chance to make the NBA one day?

MM: Brad, I said he reminded me of him because of his game and being from New Orleans. It’s too early for me to determine if Javon will make it to the NBA. He hasn’t even played a high school game yet and this is not taking anything away from Felix because he’s a heck of a ball player.

Jordan From Prince George’s County:
Mr. Melton, I remember seeing the article and video about Justin Jenifer on the internet a couple years ago. After watching him play what do you think about his game?

MM: Jordan, I think Justin is a talented ball player but I also believe as he goes up in age and basketball level he must improve his speed and explosiveness. At his size you must be rather quick and have good athleticism to be effective once he reaches high school and beyond.

Donna From Bridgeport, Connecticut:
Mike, I see many players reclassifying in grammar school. What do you feel about this topic?

MM: Donna, this topic is very interesting because I feel that if someone is reclassifying to make themselves better prepared for a college scholarship than I’m all for it. But, if you doing it to win AAU games then I don’t necessary agree with that method.

Kent From Louisville, KY:
Mike, I see Never Nervous Pervis has a son that supposed to be pretty good. Can you tell me about his game.

MM: Kent, Malik Ellison is probably the top 5th Grader in our region. He’s very polished, has a wet jumper and some serious court vision. He was Mr. Memorial Day of the MDC and showed have a good showing at the AAU Nationals.
