MIT Recap: Day 1 Top Performers Part 1

Seven Woods Got Busy Today

The Maryland Invitational kicked off last night and Basketball Spotlight took the trip to the Potomac Valley for coverage. Here’s Part 1 of our Top Performer report.

MIT Day 1 Top Performers

13U

Seven Woods Guard (CB Spiders)- Add a few more inches to this potential stud. Woods looked good both games I saw him get down. He’s developed a better off hand in terms of handling and finishing. In his second outing he brought the crowd to their feet with thunderous breakaway dunk. Right now he plays at a different speed and level than most of his peers.

Edrice Adebayo Forward (CB Spiders)- What a pick up for the Spiders. This kid potential is enormous. He’s 6’6 with room to grow and an active body. Right now his ability to rebound and alter shots changes the game on this level. Offensively, he’s still a work in progress but that’s a great thing in the long run.

Madison Cone Guard (CB Spiders)- Cone showed different facets of his game. First, he showed me he had a big ratchet by nailing a few deep bombs. Then he displayed his point guard skills by driving, drawing and dishing. Defensively, he’s a total pest in terms of playing the passing lanes and getting steals.

Tim Walker Guard (CB Spiders)- This was my first look at Walker and the kid can go. He gets to the tin in transition or in the half court set. He was another great pick up for the reigning National Champs. He’s an instant impact player.

Daquan Barnes (ETU Warriors)- Barnes leaves it all on the floor every time out. His team was a little over matched against the CB Spiders but he was still able to make an impact player. He challenged them in the paint while also handling the rock a little.

12U

Zach Cooks Guard (Atlanta Knicks)- I love Cooks, maybe because I’m a little biased towards quality floor generals. In their loss to NY Rising Stars Cooks delivered the rock to teammates like a waiter. He also knows how to get his own shot off and finish in traffic. Zach Cooks has game baby.

Jay Estime Forward (Atlanta Knicks)- I saw enough of Jay to say he might have the best upside of this bunch. He’s a potential guard playing as a forward on this level. I do think he should have demanded the rock a little more and took over down the stretch. But that will come with maturity.

Christian Nelson Forward (Atlanta Knicks)- Nelson is a strong combo forward with the skills that allow him to create off the dribble. He muscled his way to some easy buckets with crisp post moves and a feathery touch.

Al Durham Guard (Atlanta Knicks)- Al is a player that scores in bunches. The southpaw got out on the break and converted while also draining a few treys to get his team back in the game. He’s willing to let a few shots go from the cheap seats.

Paul Person Guard (Rising Stars)- Person took over the game to help his squad get the victory. He sprinted out to easy lay ups in transition and darted through the defense in the half court set. He specializes in finishing in traffic.

Tyrese Whitaker Guard (Rising Stars)- Whitaker is always one of the shortest players on the floor but he’s gets it done. This youngster understands that his job is to get into the lane and spoon feed teammates. He does everything with flair and swagger.

Losini Kamara Forward (Rising Stars)- Kamara used his versatility for help them advance. He’s sees over the defense which allows him to score and kicked the ball shooters when they are open. I’m very interested to see how this youngster develops.

11U

Kevin Green Guard (Fastbreak)- Green went to work against the Blazers. To put it simple he was a finisher. He got the rock on the wing and used his guard skills to carve his way to the cup. He’s stronger than he looks and used it to convert. He also has some range on his shot.

Taylor Roberts Guard (Fastbreak)- Roberts made some plays on the blocks but he will probably be a guard once he gets older. Right now his smartness helped him get around shot blockers and score around the basket.

Darran Butts Guard (Blazers)- Butts was a treat to watch. The pint size floor general handled the Fastbreak pressure with ease and kicked the rock to his partners. He kept defenders on their heels and also plays with the confidence of older player.

Elijah James Guard (Blazers)- James can shoot it from the perimeter and also has a nice floater. He probably will be a point guard some time in the future. His quickness and toughness stood out today.

Stay Tune For Part 2

Video Profile: Justin Jackson (Toronto, Canada)

Name: Justin Jackson

AAU Team: YAAACE

Position: Forward

Class: 2015

Breakdown: Canada has been on a roll lately in terms of producing talents such as Tristan Thompson (Texas), Kris Joseph (Syracuse), Myck Kabongo and rising star Andrew Wiggins. Next in line seems to be Justin Jackson from Toronto. We featured Jackson nearly two years ago as a rising 7th Grader at the Hoop Group Jr. Elite Camp. We proclaimed him then as the top prospect for that class at the camp and salivated over his potential. Now it’s apparent that he is still on the same road while destroying the competition all over North America. Remember where you saw him first.

AC Showcase Flashback: Peacemakers Hold It Down

Peacemakers Won The AC Showcase On Their Way To Team Of The Year

Jaquan Johnson scored 14 points for Team Nelson in the loss. This year the Atlantic City will once again bring in some of the top teams in the country. Don’t miss the chance to join us as we invade America’s playground.

Basketball Spotlight 14U Top 10 Presented By AGame Apparel

The Basketball Spotlight Top 10 Presented by AGame Apparel is back. I know we have our Summer Slam point system but we still have to chart who we think are the Top 10 Teams of each age group. This is just our opinion and should be taken as such.

Basketball Spotlight 14U Top 10 Presented By AGame Apparel

1. Team Final: TF took two losses at the Clash For The Cup but overall body of work still has them at the top slot. I am anxious to see how they respond in the next event. They still are one of the favorites to reach Summer Slam.

2. Team Scan: TS made it to the finals of the Clash and got a win against TF. They are playing some good ball right now so should only get better when Bobby Martin Jr. returns from injury.

3. Philly Aztecs: They got revenge on Team Takeover and made it to the Final Four of the Clash. They haven’t won a banner yet but their Summer Slam points are racking up.

4. Team Takeover: This powerful squad felt the good bump at the Spotlight. They have serious talent from top to bottom and are probably a pure point guard away from being ridiculous.

5. F.A.C.E.S.: After winning the Jr. Hoophall title they made it to the quarters of the Clash For The Cup. If they remain consistent they should be one of the squads battling out in August.

6. Team Rebels: This rugged bunch has some top talent and played against some tough squads at the Clash. They are definitely a team that most opponents hate to line up against.

7. The City: The got a big win against TS in pool play but then fell to Team Rebels. Right now they need a big finish in AC and the MDC to make an appearance in Summer Slam.

8. NJ Got Game: NJGG came to life at the Clash while picking up a few big pool wins. In the quarterfinals they ran into a serious Team Takeover squad. We will be keeping an eye on this bunch as the season continues.

9. Playaz: In their first outing I must say this team impressed me. They took both teams in their pool to the limit before coming up short. Hopefully we will get to watch them again soon.

10. Philly Triple Threat: They won the Blue Division at the Clash and seem to have a motivated bunch. I’m still waiting to see how they thrive against the Orange Division comp.

The Basketball Spotlight Top 10 Presented by AGame Apparel is back. I know we have our Summer Slam point system but we still have to chart who we think are the Top 10 Teams of each age group. This is just our opinion and should be taken as such.

Basketball Spotlight 13U Top 10 Presented By AGame Apparel

1. DC Assault: This collection of talent might have all the tools to make a serious run at the AAU Nationals. They ran through the Grand Finale and should be returning north for the Atlantic City Showcase.

2. Team Final: The reigning Team Of The Year finally hit the hardwood this past weekend in Pennsylvania. Now they will set their sights on AC. If they have plans on making it to Summer Slam they must make deep runs in the AC Showcase and MDC.

3. Gauchos: The Choz made it to the finals of the Clash For The Cup. Right now they are in a first place tie with F.A.C.E.S. with 7 Summer Slam points. They seem to be in a good spot to qualify for the August event.

4. F.A.C.E.S.: The Clash For The Cup winners made a big leap from our last poll. The new additions seem to have settled in and now they are looking like the “Killer Bees” again.

5. New Heights: New York league play had NH absent from the Clash For The Cup. Hopefully we can catch them at the AC Showcase. I’m interested to see how they respond without the services of Rakym Felder.

6. Team Scan: TS had a tough run at the Clash. But I do believe they have bounce back ability because of their talented roster. They are also vying for a Summer Slam spot.

7. Philly Triple Threat: PTT knocked off a few good teams at the Clash as they made a Final Four appearance. This tough squad should be a force to reckon with the rest of the way.

8. CT Elite: A Final Four appearance at the Clash moved this squad up a few spots. I don’t believe we have heard the last of them. A good AC showing will have them in the thick of the Summer Slam race.

9. MABC: The Beantown boys have been kind of quiet as of late. They should be coming down soon to tangle at the Spotlight. We will be waiting.

10. Force One: We haven’t heard much from this group since they won the Grand Finale Blue Division. Hopefully we will get another look at this bunch.

Basketball Spotlight 12U Top 10 Presented By AGame Apparel

1. NY Rising Stars: They were absent from the Clash For The Cup but just won the IS8 Championship. Things should get very interesting with this bunch the rest of the way. They trail Team IZOD are tied with Juice All Stars for Summer Slam points.

2. CBC: The Connecticut boys came down and made a trip to the finals before running into that Cali buzz saw. They gathered 4 quick points and now are back in the Summer Slam race. They will be looking to earn more than some casino chips in Atlantic City.

3. Team IZOD: The reigning Team Of The Year has yet to hold a banner. But their play hasn’t gone unnoticed since they are the Summer Slam point leader with 7 markers. Their arrival should me AC even more interesting.

4. Maryland Panthers: They missed the recent party at the Clash but are anxious to get to Atlantic City. They want to show they are still among the elite teams in the country.

5. DC Assault: A Final Four finish in their Spotlight debut has them in the Top 5. They loved the bump so much they jumped onto the 3rd leg in Atlantic City. Another run to the Final Four or more will have them deep in the Summer Slam race.

6. Juice All Stars: A blown van tire caused them team to fall in the quarterfinals. But being active is paying off as they are tied for second in Summer Slam points. I won’t be surprised if they make it to Burlington in August.

7. CT Elite: The effort was good but they fell to a couple of tough teams at the Clash. Now they are looking to Atlantic City for some revenge and to earn some points.

8. Team Final: This team showed a little moxie but needs to gain more experience in big games. Atlantic City will give them a chance to make things right.

9. Playtime Panthers: The Green and Black don’t back down to anyone. They had a tough draw facing Cali in the quarterfinals at the Clash. Hopefully the experience will help them throughout the season.

10. Team Nelson: TN was absent from the Clash and have been hit with the injury bug recently. But they should be ready for the spring events.

The Basketball Spotlight Top 10 Presented by AGame Apparel is back. I know we have our Summer Slam point system but we still have to chart who we think are the Top 10 Teams of each age group. This is just our opinion and should be taken as such.

Basketball Spotlight 11U Top 10 Presented By AGame Apparel

1. Gauchos: The Choz made it to the Final Four of the Clash For The Cup. They still have the arsenal to win any tournament. They remain at the top because their success and willingness to go in the fire. We value strength of schedule. They have a great chance of making it to Summer Slam.

2. We Run: WR didn’t have a strong showing at the Clash but rebounded to finish second at the Riverside tournament. We also like the way this squad puts it on the line each game out. They will enter any top level tournament. Summer Slam could be in their grasp.

3. Riverside Hawks: We know RH has the personnel to defeat anyone on any giving night. We were looking forward to a big time showdown with the Gauchos at the Clash but RH had other plans. Hopefully they will be in America’s playground March 19th and 20th.

4. Natural Ballers: NB made a huge leap after winning the Clash For The Cup which featured some top teams. Hopefully they can keep it going and end up in Burlington, NJ in the first weekend in August.

5. DC Assault: The PV squad made their Spotlight debut and made it to the championship. This should make them hungry for more Spotlight success. In one trip they took home 4 points. Summer Slam is definitely a possibility.

6. Fastbreak: A Final Four finish at Clash For The Cup was a great accolade for this squad. Now they have their sights set on the Atlantic City Showcase. They will need to have another great run at AC to qualify for Summer Slam.

7. Delaware Royalty: This team seems to be on the verge of breaking through. This age division is extremely tough but it’s also a lot of parity. They still have an outside shot of making it to Burlington.

8. PWC: I was looking for the bunch to enter the Clash but hopefully they will bring that hustling to Atlantic City. This is a team many don’t want to see in their pool.

9. T Town Ballers: The Capital City bunch has been hovering around the pack for most of the season. Now it’s time for them to have a breakthrough. Eye’s will be watching in Atlantic City.

10. Bayshore Bulldogs: The Bulldogs coach loved the competition and said he can’t wait to tangle again in Atlantic City. This tough comp should get them ready for the NJ State title.

Diary Of A Baller: Malachi "Shoota" Richardson (Trenton, NJ) Entry #20

What’s Up Everybody!

It’s the “Shoota”. This week was smooth, school was good, and the trimester officially ends next Friday. I had tests in social studies, science, and math, of course I banged out the A on all three. We have four more months of school….lol.. looking forward to the summer. At my school we have dress down day, we have it like every 3 weeks, it’s a fundraiser for the PTA, in order to dress down you have to pay a dollar, I wish we could have it every Friday, so I can just put on a pair of jeans and go to school, I don’t like wearing the same thing every single day….lol. I know in high school it's gonna be the same thing all over again....Uniforms!

My week of basketball was a little different. Monday I started my 5:30am workouts, when I finally got to the gym at 6:00am, the 35 and over crowd was in the gym playing full court, I didn’t know those old dudes get up that early to ball. So, instead of doing my basketball drills, I just did my treadmill and stairs running; when I got finished I really felt good. I may have to wait until the school year is over to really get into my a.m. workouts, because my mom was rushing me like crazy when I got home from the gym. I know I had an hour to shower, get dressed, and eat, I just needed 15 minutes to relax first, she wasn’t having it…lol…by the time we got into the car for her to drop me off, she wasn’t speaking to me, I sure don’t like sending her off to work pissed off…lol.

Monday and Tuesday night, my school team had tournament games in Perth Amboy, NJ. We won both games, but I swear the rims are at least 10.5 - 11 feet. Instead of the rim being right underneath the square, it’s bolted on top of the square. Only a shoota would notice that..lol. Wednesday and Thursday, I did more cardio work; I know I need to get into better shape, this week I concentrated more on conditioning. After my cardio work I played a few games so I could go up and down the court.

Thursday after my workout I went over to Trenton Catholic Academy to watch my boy Naz Chew play. I haven’t watched the Varsity team play for a minute, but I see some changes have occurred with the starting lineup and my boy is getting some more minutes. They pulled out the win in a close game.

Friday, I did more of my cardio work, and later that night I went to the movies. I didn’t do my usual, more than one movie thing, because I was going to a workout at Life Center Academy early Saturday morning.

Saturday morning I went to the Rise-n-Shine Basketball workout at Life Center. I walked up in there and my boy Fresh was there for the workout too. We looked at each other, like what you doing here? It was the first workout for both of us. That's why I really love playing with Fresh, being on the same page is a good thing. I liked the workout and I loved how Chip the trainer made it feel like a personal training session. He really pushes you. I can’t wait to go back next week. Saturday afternoon my mom and I went over to my aunt's house, we were only gonna stay for about an hour, that hour turned into 7 hours, when my mom and her twin sister get together it's always like that, hours at a time. I chilled with my cousin Brandon and I beat him up a little bit in 2K10.

Sunday we had practice at Villanova. Before practice Coach P and Coach Fresh talked to us about how we played during the Clash for the Cup tournament and how they expect us to play going forward. We did our drills and everybody was working hard, there wasn’t a lot of playing around. At the end of practice we scrimmaged a little bit, Ronde who plays for Team Final older team came and worked out with us. During our scrimmage Ronde caught a OOP and dunked on somebody on our team (can’t name the player)… But if you see me and ask me I will tell you who it was...lol...The dunk was sick!! Our big boy Trey had a nasty dunk on somebody too…..again I can’t name the player..lol. What a way to end
practice.

Sunday night I watched the football game, nothing was super about it for me since my team wasn't in it, I'm glad Pittsburgh lost tho...lol didn't ,want to hear it from my teacher.

Catch me next week…..

Video Profile: Dyaire Holt Holding It Down At Clash For The Cup

Name: Dyaire Holt

AAU Team: Albany Dream Team

Position: Combo Guard

Class: 2016

Breakdown: Holt was a man amongst boys in the 13U Blue Division. His strength and ability to finish could not be denied during the Clash For The Cup. He’s a punishing guard and can absorb all kinds of contact on his way to the tin. At times he looked virtually unstoppable. His next stop will be the Atlantic City Showcase.

Diary Of A Baller: Otis "The General" Livingston (NJ Got Game) Entry #17

What’s happening everyone?

This past week was exciting because we finally finished up our mid-terms. There were some parts that I got stuck on in Math, but I was able to work out the problems and I think I did really well. . I will let you know how I do on those tests next week. Overall, I think I’m gonna come out smelling like a rose.

As far as basketball goes, we didn’t have many games. I just worked out a lot, doing ball handling, and some physical workouts. I got the chance to work out with my friend Jamal Lovett. The first day, Marcellus, Marquis and I went through his drills. The second time it was just me so I got a lot of work in. We worked on some new moves. He also showed me how to go into the defenders body and finish strong. It’s always fun to get those And1’s. We worked on conditioning, and shooting. He had me come off the screen, and have a quick release on my jump shot. Those are all things I have to use in my game. As far as watching basketball, I saw the Knicks lose to the 76rs in a really close game. I paid attention to Raymond Felton do the pick and roll with Amar’e Stoudemire. I watch them and try to work on that stuff with the big men on my team.

On Saturday we traveled to Jersey City to play the NJ Pirates. I think we were excited to play, but we made too many mistakes in the beginning and they were up by about 10. We had to chip away, we had a lot of rebounds, and we went to the hoop hard looking for fouls and mostly getting them. Coach Claudio told us to keep the pressure up, and keep going hard. We got to within 2 points late in the game. But we made a few turnovers and they scored off of them. We ended up losing by 5. I was really disappointed in how we dug ourselves a hole in the beginning. We have to get off to a much quicker start. After that game, I had a South Orange middle school game against Cedar Grove. I came at half time so I didn’t play that much. We ended up winning by 60 points.

At Sunday’s NJ Got Game practice, Coach Pete was mad about how we performed against the Pirates. He wasn’t at the game, but he heard about how bad our effort was. And that’s one thing you’re gonna do if you’re gonna play for Coach Pete and that’s give effort! Every mistake we made in a drill, we ran suicides. It was tiring but it makes us pay attention to all the little details that will get us killed. They add up in games and we have to clean that up if we expect to win. Coach Pete also said that we are not the most talented team, but we have to make up for it by being smarter and work harder than our opponent.

After practice I went home and watched the Super Bowl. My team the Dolphins wasn’t in the game so it wasn’t too exciting for me, but it was fun to watch. I’m glad the underdogs won! Congrats to the cheeseheads of Green Bay! LOL

That’s it for this week, tune in next time.

Inside The Clash For The Cup 14U: West Coast Invasion

Cali Styles Handled Their Business

When Cali Style came east with only 6 players I didn’t think they would run the table. They played some of the top teams in the region including Team Final, Philly Aztecs, Team Scan and Team Rebels before raising the banner. I have to take my hat off for the boys from the Bay State. They came, they saw and the conquered. Hopefully we will get to see this squad again.

The Blues (14U Players Get Busy In Blue Division)

Mikey Dixon (Positive Force)- Dixon went on a scoring rampage at the Clash For The Cup. He averaged over 20 points a contest including a huge 27 points against Team MVP. It seems like the youngster has found a home. We will be watching.

Jack Laffy (JS Devils)- Laffy continued his great play this season. He averaged 16 points including 24 points against Mid Jersey Heat. The forward is really showing he can contribute on the wing which is a good sign.

Tony Carr (Philly Triple Threat)- Carr was playing up but ran the show like a true floor general. Tony understands how to play within himself and set up teammates for easy buckets. He’s a throwback player and that should benefit him in the future.

14U Clash For The Cup All Tournament Team

Tyler Dorsey (Cali Styles)
Marcus Lovett (Cali Styles)
Steve Zimmerman (Cali Styles)

Inside The Clash For The Cup 13U: Road To Summer Slam Race Heats Up

Killer Bee's Stung That Competition

F.A.C.E.S. Back In The Race

After the Grand Finale things weren’t looking too hot for the “Killer Bees” but now Cole’s crew is back into the thick of things. First they went up to Basketbull and won the Jr. Hoophall crown then they ran throw the Clash For The Cup before defeating the Gauchos in the championship.

13U Race On The Road To Summer Slam Tightens Up

The Clash For The Cup results have made things tight for the 13U Road To Summer Slam. F.A.C.E.S. and the Gauchos are tied with 7 points for the lead. PV power DC Assault, Team Scan, and Philly Triple Threat all have 5 points and New Heights follows with 4. Only 4 teams will get invited to so it will be very interesting to see which squads get the nod.

13U Clash For The Cup All Tournament Team

Ray Montilous (F.A.C.E.S.)
Jagan Mosley (F.A.C.E.S.)
Shaquann Gibbs (F.A.C.E.S.)

NyRhique Smith (Gauchos)

Inside The Clash For The Cup 11U: Natural Ballers Crash Party

Natural Ballers Snatched The Crown

Natural Ballers?

When we did the 11U preview we had no idea Natural Ballers would be the last team standing in the loaded 11U division. But the Garden State boys got it done with the 1-2 punch of Kayshawn McMahon and Jordan Taylor. Now they go from the hunters to being hunted. They collected 5 points with their crown and now we will see if they have enough in the tank to make it to Summer Slam.

Klosk Shines

Daniel Klosk used the Clash For The Cup to step into the spotlight. He led the team in scoring and helped his crew reach the final four. The scoring guard has the size and the stroke to make an immediate impact on this level.

Team Takeover 10U Won Clash For The Cup

Team Takeover Gets It Done

Team Takeover made its Spotlight debut and took the crown back to the Potomac Valley. The future Nike ballers went through a tough field to win the prize. Before the season is out we might get the chance to watch them play against some of the other top teams in the region. Dc Assault is slated for the MDC and hopefully we can snag the Fairfax Stars and CJ Hawks.

Tanksley Heats Up!

Natural Baller guard Jaheim Tanksley caught fire from the perimeter at the Clash For The Cup. He nailed 8 treys in two games including 6 against Riverside Hawks. Tanksley then left the 10U division to join his team in 11U action and help them win the crown. This young kid can stroke it from anywhere.

Clash For The Cup: 12U Top Performers

Nate Pierre Louis (Team IZOD)

The Clash For The Cup 12U Division reached a new level this year. We had some of the top teams and talent in the entire tournament in Neptune NJ. Here’s a breakdown of some of the top players that performed well on the stage.

Top Performers 12U

Nate Pierre Louis Guard (Team IZOD)- The scoring machine was at it again. His big game was a 17 point performance against CBC . His size will determine which position he ends up at. If he hits 6’4 or above he will be a natural two guard but anything lower will move to the combo or point guard spot.

Aaron Clarke Guard (Team IZOD)- Clarke saved his best game for the big stage. He scored 25 points while nailing 3 treys in the victory against eventual champ Cali Styles. He also posted 16 markers in their semifinal loss to CBC Clarke’s ratchet is one thing but he’s beginning to add some quickness on his dribble drives and shiftiness in his ball handling.

David Kachleries Guard (Team IZOD)- This kid just knows how to get it going. In the game against Cali Styles and throughout the tournament he was able to penetrate and flourish in the open. Just when the defense thinks they have him figured out he pulls another trick out of his hat. DK is a supreme ball handler.

Sa’eed Nelson Guard (Team Final)- Nelson was with his new crew and had to carry much of the scoring load. He averaged about 15 points a contest against very stiff competition. He didn’t make as deep in the tournament as in the past but him being able to handle the rock and make point guard decisions will help him in the long run.

Keonte Lucas Guard (CT Elite)- Lucas had his breakout game with a 22 point effort against an over matched Philly Triple Threat. His aggressive style and knack to score the ball was too much for the young opposing crew. When he is on you can put 20 or more in the books.

Raheem Solomon Forward (CBC)- While defenses were focused on Martin and Charles, Solomon did his own damage. He destroyed the smaller Bayshore Bulldogs for 24 points and numerous rebounds. He’s an athletic kid we will be keeping an eye on.

Prentiss Hubb Guard (DC Assault)-The DC Assault guard used a good scoring touch from the perimeter to help his team get to the final four. He finished the quarterfinal game against CT Elite with 19 markers while nailing 3 treys. This organization keeps a plethora of guards.

Jake Needleman Guard (Bayshore)- Needleman did everything he could do to try and get them a victory. The heady guard posted some points and made some good plays. The future looks bright for him.

Clash For The Cup: 13U Top Performers (Here We Come)

Kobe Gantz (Cenn Penn Ballers)

The 13U division also had some under the radar players that are ready for some shine. Here’s a look at the 13U Blue Division top performers.

13U Top Performers (Here We Come)

Kobe Gantz G (Central Penn Ballers) = This smooth guard is at his best when attacking the basket. Kobe is fluid with the rock and he is a good passer with good court vision. He is a good drive, draw and kick passer.

Nick Botelho F (Shooting Stars) = Nick has the ability to score in a variety of ways. He can connect on jumpers from beyond 3-point range as well as score in the paint. When he applies himself, he has the ability to cause match-up problems by taking bigger players out on the perimeter with his shooting ability and taking smaller defenders down to the block.

Montrel Morgan G (Central Penn Ballers) = Montrel Morgan is a young man that loves to compete and can make plays on the offensive. He is a good ball handler and passer but is at his best when he is attacking off the dribble. He works to pressure the ball on defense and has active hands on D.

Jahad Neibauer F (Central Penn Ballers) = Jahad is a blue collar forward that scores on the break. He is good rebounder and finisher that welcomes contact. Great straight line attacker but must work on dribble moves to beat the defender off the dribble.

Ray Cortez G (St. Michaels) = Cortez is a steady point guard with the ability to score and hit the money ball from deep. The kid plays with confidence that is important to be successful as a point. He is not afraid to make the tough play or take the big shot. His obvious strength is his 3-point shooting ability.

Anthony Gomez G (St. Michaels) = Gomez has very good quickness and uses his speed to get to the paint or create separation. He also has good court vision and distributes the ball well. He fits an up tempo system of play.

Marcus McClury F G (St. Michaels) = Marcus McClury is a strong and athletic wing. McClury is an effective slasher to the basket that can finish well. He is an excellent rebounder for his position due to his strong body and athletic ability.

Troy Richardson G (Philly Freedom) = Richardson is one of those wings that can do just about anything on the court. He has a versatile game and can even post up and shoot over the top of smaller guards.

Jason Gibson G (CT Elite) = Jay Gibb is a true point guard that has all the tools to be a good player. Gibson can handle the ball, he can shoot the three and he can go by defenders with mostly change of pace dribbles.

Zack Howarth G (CJ Hawks) = Zack is a playmaking guard who can also shoot the three. He handles the rock and gets himself into the lane and finishes at a surprisingly high rate. His point guard skills in terms of running the team and good court vision was on displayed all weekend.

Clash For The Cup: 13U Top Performers (We Got Game)

Cameron Wiston (Team Scan)

The 13U Division at the Clash For The Cup and it definitely had some talent. Here’s one of our reports of the Top Performers from this event. We will have more to come.

13U Top Performers

Cameron Winston Forward (Team Scan)- Winston is known for playing hard and he lived up to that rep this weekend. But he also showed some improvement in his perimeter game nailing 6 treys this weekend. You can see this is something he has been working on in the lab.

Unique Mclean Guard (Team Scan)- Unique is not a secret anymore so defenses are focusing on his every move. He had some success this weekend against a few teams but needs to bring the same intensity each time out. Welcome to the land of stardom young fella.

Korey Benson Guard (Team Scan)- Benson is capable of attacking at any moment. His aggressive play earns him several trips to the foul line. This style can also get him into foul trouble which is why it’s important for him to pick his spots well.

Matt Maloney Guard (Gauchos)- Maloney is a hired gun from the perimeter and he seems to be accepting his role. He can catch and shoot with the best of them. His ability to drain the three ball will make the defense come out of the zone and play this squad man to man.

Tremont Waters Guard (CT Elite)- Waters made his Spotlight debut and the fluid guard had some impressive moments. He used his unlimited range to nail big shots especially against the Philly Aztecs where he dropped 22 points in their victory. He led his team to the final four of this event.

Will Hardie Guard (CT Elite)- Hardie can really stroke it and he showed it during the semifinals against the Gauchos. This youngster seems to have a load of potential and CT might be the place for him to get it done. I like his wiry frame and size for his position.

Trevon Duval Guard (Philly Aztecs)- Duval showed that playing up is not a problem. The crafty point guard scored 17 points against CT Elite and 16 markers against SI Ironmen. Imagine what he would have done on the 12U level.

Alex Leder Guard (ETU)- Leder gave the crowd a treat with his superb ball handling and ability to get into the lane. His confidence seems to be rising while playing on this level. The best is yet to come to this kid.

Diary Of A Baller: Otis "The General" Livingston (NJ Got Game) Entry #16

What’s up everyone?
It’s “The General” again with another entry.

In school we started our midterms in Spanish, Math, and Science. Math was a little difficult, Science and Spanish were a little easy. I think I prepared well for all the subjects. I studied for about 2 hours with my mother every day so I was ready. We have more midterm tests this week and I’ll let you know how I do.

Now to basketball. This weekend we had the Clash For the Cup. In the Grand Finale we didn’t win a game so I was real souped for this one. I don’t like losing. We had two tough pool play games against F.A.C.E.S and Future Players. In the Future Players game we just wanted to get the win because we felt it would ease the pressure of winning the F.A.C.E.S game. We got a lot of rebounds and pushed the ball a lot in transition. Shout out to Ahmad for getting some boards against big Leroy Butts. We got a lot of fast break buckets and down the stretch made our free throws. At the end of the game we made a few mistakes and they hit some 3 pointers so we only won by about 12 points.

We had a little rest and it was on to F.A.C.E.S. We wanted to win this game so bad, for bragging rights, and because they are one of the hottest teams out there. We came out a little flat with trouble against their press. They went up early. Once we slowed the game down and started running our offense, we started getting buckets down low. And big shout out to Jadon who was making it rain from 3-point land. At half time we were up 11 and Coach Pete said we had to maintain the lead and to keep playing hard. F.A.C.E.S made a little run, but so did we. I also got a technical foul in the game...LOL shout out to my good friend Trey Lowe, I didn’t mean any harm it was just a heated game and we were both playing real physical. In fact, one of my hearing aids got knocked out while battling for a rebound. That hasn’t happened in a long time, but I’ve learned to not call timeout. I just quickly pick it up before it gets stepped on, or if we’re on the break one of my parents will run out and get it. They’re expensive lol. We wound up winning by 11.

Sunday we had a tough game against Team Takeover. They got out early on us, and they stayed on top of us. We had trouble against their man-to-man press. They were swarming in the half-court defense and they were long so they got a lot of steals. Their big man was really good, he was making 3 pointers so it was tough. We ended up losing by about 20 points, so it was a blow out. My coach said he was happy with us on how we performed this weekend against F.A.C.E.S and Future Players. We need to get in the lab and work on not making as many turnovers against a long athletic defensive team. It’s all good, and I’m very happy about our performance as well.

That’s all for this week, tune in next time.
The General is OUT!
