Hoop Group Showdown Recap 14U: King Street Kings Win Title

KSK Wins Crown!

Mike Silverthorn scored 16 points as King Street Kings defeated Plymouth ABA 52-44 to win the Hoop Group 14U Showdown. Bernard Gordon scored 15 points for Plymouth ABA in the loss.

Spotlight Players

Mike Silverthorn Forward (KSK)- Mike was splendid in this game. He showed all facets of his game. He has an improved handle and I like his ability to create off the bounce. His outside shot looked good but he was more effective driving to the cup or pulling up. He also managed to snatch a few boards in this contest. He was very impressive today.

Quai Jefferson Guard (KSK)- Jefferson brings a lot of energy on both ends of the floor. He attacks on the offensive end though he can get out of control at times. Jefferson has a nose for the ball and runs the floor very well. I also like the defensive intensity he brings to the floor.

Kevin Doolan Guard (KSK)- Doolan's second half defensive job on Bernard Gordon was the key to KSK victory. His team decided to go box and one which allowed Doolan to frustrate the high scoring guard. He also made some clutch passes and free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Bernard Gordon Guard (Plymouth ABA)- The southpaw was sizzling in the first half and actually up until the defense was switch. He has a quick handle that allows him to drive pass most defenders but can also stick the jumper if you back off too much. In the future he will have to learn to play against junk defenses like box and ones.

Morgan Jackson Guard (Plymouth ABA)- Jackson is another guard that impressed me with this group. I like the rotation on his jumper and his physical style when driving to the cup. Down the stretch he made some key plays to help keep his team in reach. He's a nice looking combo guard.

Marquis Bryant Forward (Plymouth ABA)- Bryant might be one of the best prospects in the building. He’s very long and athletic while also handling the ball a little. He made some strong moves inside and blocked or altered numerous shots. He’s still young but once he game matures watch out. His potential is scary.

Matt Simon Guard (Plymouth ABA)- Simon is the hired outside shooter for this squad and he can stroke. Their other guards penetration skills allow him to spot up for open shots and he usually takes full advantage. This kid can stroke it.

Austin Rodenbaugh Guard (Plymouth ABA)- Austin is the quarterback for this PA team. He’s not super quick but very poised and knows how to pick his spots. He brings a calm demeanor to this team when he has the rock in his hands. He also has decent range on his outside shot.

Jordan Forehand Guard (NJ Shore Shots)- After going for 33 points yesterday, Forehand showed his toughness by shaking off an ankle injury and retuning to help his team defeat a stubborn Asbury Park Rec. This kid has tremendous skills and just loves playing the game.
