Playaz Blow Up: 14U Top Performers

Andrews Performed As A Top Prospect.

The Playaz Blow Up 14 and Under Division was by far the most talented. The prospects were in the building and Basketball Spotlight got a chance to analyze a few. Here’s a breakdown.

14 and Under Top Performers

Rashard Andrews Forward (NY Pythons)- Andrews gave Amile Jefferson all he could in the semifinals. The wing forward moved well with out the rock and knows how to adjust his shot in mid air to get it off. There are some big things down the road for this kid.

Ahmid Willams Guard (MSU)- Ahmid is known for making big plays at the end of games. The semifinal match up against the Playaz seemed to be another chapter in his book. Williams stepped his game up big time in this showdown. He had the jumper falling for the most part and was very aggressive on the defensive. He battled Montana Mayfield for the entire night and almost stole the game but the ref ruled his bucket came after the buzzer.

Jahmal Lane Forward (MSU)- I was impressed the way Lane maneuver in traffic and finishes with his left hand even driving from the right side. He was very effective on the baseline but I need to see him do more perimeter things because he seems to have peaked in terms of growing.

Herbie Donerson Guard (MSU)- Donerson picked his play in the semifinal also. He has nerves of steal and will pull a big shot no matter the situation. His quickness also benefits him on the defensive end.

Dante Agnew Guard (NY Pythons)- Agnew was very efficient running the club during pool play. He controlled the tempo and looked real good dishing the rock. He has some NY flair but doesn’t go over the top with it.

Nafiq Lighty Forward (Playaz)- Lighty hit the glass and got conversions during pool play and the semifinals. He sparked the Playaz on both end of the floor by playing with good energy.

Tafari Whittingham Forward (New Heights)- Whittingham will catch any scouts eye because he’s so active on both ends of the floor. His offensive moves aren’t polished yet but he plays with so much energy that you have to take notice. He’s always chasing down rebounds or keeping balls alive. Defensively he attempts to block shots and is a regular on the glass.

Omar Calhoun Guard (D1 Sports)- Calhoun is a volume shooter from the perimeter. He fell in love with the jump shot during their outing. When it’s dropping it looks pretty but when it’s not, you want him to drive a little more. But all in all he is very fluid with the rock and will be an instant impact player on the next level.

Labrent Walker Guard (D1 Sports)- Walker reminds me so much of Harold Minor. He gets to the bucket with ease and has the athleticism to finish above anyone. He just has to retool his outside shot to make the defense respect it more. This will increase his driving opportunities.
