Diary Of A Baller: Louis Hutchinson (Upper Marlboro, MD) Entry #2

Kobe Bryant and Lou Hutchinson

What’s up Basketball Spotlight World!!!!

Welcome to my 2nd journal entry for Lou Hutchinson.

My Basketball Background: Born 3/20/2004, 6’3” Point Guard/Shooting Guard for Team Durant. Attending the Maret School for High school and will be playing for Varsity Coach Chuck Driesell.

Monday: On the 25th of June I woke up around 10 am and ate breakfast. After breakfast I got dressed for my weight lifting session at Maret High School. Around 1 pm I ate lunch and my mom drove me to Maret to the session which started at 3 and was about an hour long. Once I was done my mom picked me up and drove me to my Team Durant JV Summer League game at Largo High School at 5:45 pm. After we won our game I came home and iced my knees and had a wonderful dinner. Once I finished icing I took a shower said my prayers and went to bed.

Tuesday: On the 26th I woke up around 10 am and ate breakfast. After I ate breakfast I got dressed for my lifting session and varsity practice at Maret High School. Around 1 pm I ate lunch and my mom drove me to Maret to the session which started at 3 and was about an hour long. Directly after the session I had practice at 4 for 2.5 hours where we worked on plays, full court defense, and conditioning to prepare for our Summer League game on Friday. Once practice was over my dad picked me up drove me home and I iced my knees for recovery while crushing a wonderful meal made by my Mom. Once I finished icing I took a shower read some of my book Relentless, said my prayers, and went to bed.

Wednesday: On the morning of the 27th I woke up around 10 and got dressed to go to physical therapy at 12:30 pm. Once I finished physical therapy I crushed a burger from All American Burger and went home. I shot and dribbled in my driveway and then rested and stretched to prepare for my JV Summer League game later that day with Team Durant at 9 pm at Largo High School. After we won the game I came home did my daily 200 push ups, iced, took a shower, said my prayers and went to bed. At JV Summer League we have been undefeated, I have watched my teammates improve and I have averaged almost 16 points a game while improving my defense and ball distribution. God is good!!!!!!

Thursday: On the morning of the 28th I woke up around 10 am and ate breakfast. After breakfast I dressed for my lifting session and varsity practice at Maret High School. Around 1 pm I ate lunch and my mom drove me to Maret to the session which started at 3 pm and was about an hour long. Directly after the session I had a Maret practice for 2.5 hour where we worked on plays, full court defense, and conditioning to prepare for our Varsity Summer League game the next day. I went home afterward and watched some TV while eating. Once I finished icing I took a shower read some of my book Relentless said my prayers and went to bed.

Friday: On the morning of the 29th I woke up around 6:30 am for physical therapy at 8 am. After physical therapy I went home and prepared for my Maret Varsity Summer League game at Dematha at 5:30 pm. We won our game and ended up coming in 8th out of 31 teams during the Summer League “regular season” prior to the playoffs which started on Saturday. After the game I went home did my daily 200 push ups, iced, took a shower said my Prayers, and went to bed.

Saturday: On the morning of the 30th I woke up and had breakfast and later lunch. After lunch I prepared for my Playoff Varsity Summer League game at 6:15 pm vs Dematha at Dematha by warming up at Sportfit Gym in Bowie, MD. Unfortunately, we lost the game because of team defense lapses early and at key points in the game. I was really upset and not a happy camper after the game. Once it was over I came home and iced. Saturday night was bittersweet, we lost but I also found out that I was invited to the CP3 Rising Stars 2018 Basketball Camp in August in Greensboro, NC. I finished my daily 200 push ups and I praise God when I received the news. After I praised God, I reflected on the Varsity Summer League, things I did well and things that I need to work on. While I made 9 out of 13 3 pointers during the Summer League, 3 of 6 on mid-range jumpers, and scored on fast break and layups in traffic, I need to increase my penetration aggressiveness in the future in terms of attacking the paint and pulling up. I was relatively pleased with my ball distribution and passing, but I will give the team more opportunity with my penetration resulting in greater distribution in the future. In terms of defense I learned a lot about the benefit of channeling Scottie Pippen when I am guarding smaller Guards. Finishing 8th grade and transitioning into 9th grade I am 6’3” with a 6’5” wing span and have vigorously studied Scottie Pippen defense videos including Kobe’s DETAILs video on ESPN+ about Scottie Pippen. Outside of the gym a lot of times I work on footwork and defense drills in my unfinished basement and the driveway at my house. I call it the LAB. After I finished icing I watched some game film, said my prayers, and went to bed.

Sunday: Sunday morning I woke up and took a shower and ate breakfast before I went to Church. Church was wonderful because we talked about forgiveness during youth church, and the power of forgiveness. After church we went to Houlihan’s for a family lunch. Once we finished lunch I came home played 2k and ate dinner. I then did my daily 200 push ups. During our late dinner I heard about Lebron going to the Lakers. Wow!!!! Once I finished dinner I relaxed and went to bed. My body really needed to recover. Now it’s time to prepare for the remainder of JV Summer League, the Peach Invitational Tournament in Augusta Georgia, the Super Showcase in Orlando, Florida and CP3 Camp.

Lou Hutch signing off until next week!!!!!
