The Basketball Spotlight Fight Against Fentanyl Classic will take place Sunday October 29th at Trenton Catholic Prep Academy. This event will feature the top high school players from Mercer County versus the top high school players from South Jersey. This event will feature four games beginning with the Frosh Game (Class of 2027) and concluding with the Senior Game (Class of 2024). JERSEY WILL BE PROVIDED FOR THIS EVENT BUT ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BRING SHORTS.

Orlandis Lawful scored 16 points including two treys and Nate Kirby added 10 markers as Maplewood MS defeated Northstar Academy 63-35 to win the J.E.M. Middle School Classic Championship (Peace Division). Elton Njoy finished with 15 points for Northstar Academy in the loss.

Zaquan Cullers-Boyd scored 21 points and Jamar Young added 14 markers as Trenton Public Schools defeated Fisher Middle School 50-44 to win the J.E.M. Middle School Classic Championship (Love Division). Santana Hodge finished with 20 points including 3 treys for Fisher MS in the loss.

The proceeds from this event will go towards a scholarship fund in her name. Last year’s event was a huge success and we look forward to another great year of competition.

Breakdown: Thomas saved his best shot for last has he made the game winning bucket with two seconds remaining. The bucket gave Wiz Kids their second Spotlight championship of the year. Thomas also has a huge all around game over the Memorial Day Classic weekend.

MDC MR. MEMORIAL DAY 8TH GRADE (BLUE): WILMER DE LA ROSA (CASTLE ATHLETICS)

Name: Wilmer De La Rosa

Position: Forward 

Class: 2026 

Breakdown: Wilmer carried the torch for the NY squad in the championship. The forward dominated inside, in terms of scoring (20 points), blocking shots and rebounding. I like this kid’s upside and he should make a mark on the NYC high school scene next year.

MDC MR. MEMORIAL DAY 7TH GRADE: MARQUE JOHNSON (GYMWORK ELITE)

Breakdown: The versatile forward showed tremendous promise this weekend. He was a walking double/double while at times looking like the best prospect in the building regardless of class. His total impact on both ends of the floor earned him Mr. Memorial Day honors. This kid is oozing with potential.

Name: Colton Hiller

Breakdown: Hiller was crowned Mr. Memorial Day after capping a stellar weekend with a 24 point effort in the semifinals vs SFM Elite and a 22 point outing including 2 treys versus Eastern Shore Aces in the championship. This all around guard can stroke it while also scoring from all three levels.

Breakdown: Hampton took home Mr. Memorial Day honors after a stellar performance in the finals. The sharpshooting guard tallied 20 points including nailing 2 treys to help the NJ Shore Shots win back to back MDC championships. This kid has serious game.

The NJ Scholars won a thriller 43-41 in overtime against MPO Elite to win the Basketball Spotlight Memorial Day Classic 4th Grade Championship. This was one of the best games of the day. We congratulate both teams for making it to the finals.

Basketball Spotlight Memorial Day Classic Rules

All Games Use Stop Clocks 

4TH GRADE Division- 2 (12 Minutes Halves) 

5TH GRADE Division- 2 (12 Minute Halves) 

6TH GRADE Division- 2 (13 Minute Halves) 

7TH GRADE Division- 2 (14 Minute Halves) 

8TH GRADE Division- 2 (14 Minute Halves) 

Fouls: 

Foul Out- 5 Fouls 

1-1 Bonus- 10 Fouls 

Double Bonus- 13 Fouls 

Overtime: 2 minutes, 1 minute, sudden death (first point wins)

Time Outs: There will two full timeouts a half (4 per game) for each team. No carry over and no 30 seconds time outs. Uniforms: Each Team must have two sets of uniforms (light and dark). 

Mercy Rule: If a team is ahead by 20 points the clock will run and with 2 minutes remaining in the contest the game will be called at that point. The team ahead by 20 will be awarded the victory. 

Birth Certificates: All teams must have birth certificates for each player on their roster in case of a challenge. Each team will be allowed unlimited grade exceptions. Grade Exceptions must have paperwork.  Age Eligibility Cut Off Date Is July 1. Reclass Eligibility Cut Off Sept. 1 Challenges: Must be made before the game and will cost the challenging team $60. If the challenging team is correct their money will be refunded.

The Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup has been postponed because of the impending snowstorm that’s scheduled to hit the East Coast Friday night and all day Saturday.
