J.E.M. MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASSIC RECAP (LOVE DIVISION): TRENTON PROTECTS HOME TURF

TRENTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Zaquan Cullers-Boyd scored 21 points and Jamar Young added 14 markers as Trenton Public Schools defeated Fisher Middle School 50-44 to win the J.E.M. Middle School Classic Championship (Love Division). Santana Hodge finished with 20 points including 3 treys for Fisher MS in the loss.

TOP PERFORMERS

MVP: Zaquan Cullers-Boyd Forward (TPS)- Cullers-Boyd was a monster in the scoring column and on the boards. He used his size to score inside and on the baseline. I loved his touch near the tin but also drained a trey for good measure. His growth spurt has allowed his game to go to another level. He literally got buckets in bunches and will be playing above the rim soon.

SPORTSMANSHIP: Santana Hodge Guard (Fisher MS)- Hodge was perhaps the best guard in the building period. He scored from all three levels but what impressed me the most was his ability to create space for his shot. Hodge had an array of step back moves that kept defenders off balance and allowed him the score with ease. When the jumper was falling he drove the lane and finished with either hand even through contact.

ALL TOURNAMENT SELECTION: Jamar Young Guard (TPS)- The southpaw has made a living scoring the rock and rebounding out of position. These two games nothing was different, he was able to use body control and a feathery touch to get buckets. He has been a fluid scorer throughout his young career.

ALL TOURNAMENT SELECTION: Jamir Conover Guard (Fisher MS)- Conover control the tempo and also scored when needed for Fisher. He was able to carve himself into the teeth of the defense while setting up teammates or finishing. I also liked his intensity on the defensive end.
