AGame Super Shootout 13U Recap: New Name Same Results (Team Final Triumphs)

#2 Team Final Cashes In

Jamir Harris pumped in a game high 36 points and Darius Roundtree added 13 markers as #2 Team Final defeated #9 MABC 77-58 to win the AGame Super Shootout 13U title. Ceasar Adim finished with 24 points for MABC in the loss.

Top Performers

Jamir Harris Guard (Team Final)- Harris capped off a huge weekend in spectacular fashion. On Saturday he led his middle school team to the Run For The Roses title while taking home MVP honors. Jamir still had enough in the tank to give the competition the business at the AGame tourney. He charged the bucket like a raging bull and destroyed whoever was in his way. Harris banged home 5 treys and scored in the paint at will. I also need to mention that he performed on this level after injuring his nose against the Gauchos in the semifinals. This weekend definitely earned him a nickname. Introducing Jamir “The Terminator” Harris, he will destroy you.

Brad Hawkins Guard (Team Final)- Brad had a solid second day. He handled some of the ball handling duties and decision making. Mostly he beat his opponent off the dribble and finished at the cup. He’s grown a few inches and continues to play a physical style on both ends of the floor.

Darius Roundtree Forward (Team Final)- Roundtree is playing with a new level of confidence. His turnaround jumper was money in the bank. He also has a decent face up mid range shot from the wing area. If he continues in this direction he might develop into a wing guard or at least a small forward.

Keith Washington Guard (Team Final)- “The Microwave” made some big plays including an off balance reverse layup that helped to put the game out of reach. Keith has definitely improved his ball handling especially going east to west. We expect some big things from Washington this year.

Ceasar Adim Forward (MABC)- Adim took home the silver medal but you can’t knock his effort. He was very dominant on the glass and did everything possible to carry the squad. I do think he needs to develop more perimeter skills particularly a jump shot to help him once he enters high school. He won’t be able to overpower opponents on that level.

Jamal Allen Guard (MABC)- Allen sliced through the TF defense when the game was still close. Defenses know Allen is going to go left and still have a hard time slowing him down. Maybe because he also has a mean ratchet that he will let go from very deep.

AGame Super Shootout 12U Recap: Playtime Earns New Threads

Playtime Cruised To The Championship

Playtime raced out to an early lead and went on to defeat Philly Triple Threat 54-35 to win the 12U Championship at the AGame Super Shootout. The Panthers had a balanced scoring attack in their victory.

Top Performers

Boubacar Kamissoko Guard (Playtime)- This kid lived on the fast break. He leaked out several times for uncontested layups. In the half court set he attacked from the wing and used twisting finishes to earn points. He also can be deadly from behind the arc. He had a huge weekend scoring the ball.

JJ Jinwright Guard (Playtime)- This was my first time checking out this kid and I like the tools he possess. He joined Boubacar in being a major problem in transition. I like the wiggle in his game and his ability to finish. I see him moving over to the point guard position.

Lydell Geffard Forward (Playtime)- The developing forward has great size and a soft touch but what really impressed me was the way he threw the outlet pass. Lydell made life very easy for his streaking teammates by hitting them with Joe Montana type long passes. On defense he blocked or altered several shots that led to easy buckets on the other end.

Mike Watkins Guard (Playtime)- Playtime has a load of scoring but Watkins controls the flow and makes sure the rock gets shared equally. Instead of using flash Watkins is a crafty guard that relies on his basketball IQ to get the job done.

Khalil Parker Guard (PTT)-Parker spent the weekend getting into the lane and scoring with the floater. During the semifinals his played helped to send Team Final home. He’s the typical tough Philly guard that makes a living off the dribble drive.

Quinton Clarke Forward (PTT)- Clarke is a hard working forward that does possess some guard skills. For this team though he played the blue collar role by blocking shots, hitting the glass and converting inside. He plays bigger than his size.

AGame Super Shootout 10U Recap: Maryland Finest Win The Crown

Maryland Finest Win The Title

Kenneth Womack scored 12 points and Malik Anderson added 8 markers as Maryland Finest defeated Team NJABC 51-46 to win the 10U Championship AGame Super Shootout. Anthony Hoggard was the high scorer for NJABC.

Top Performers

Kenneth Womack Guard (Maryland Finest)- This youngster has incredible range for a 4th Grader. Towards the end of the game Womack pulled a trey ball from well behind the three point line. His shot gave his team the lead for good.

Malik Anderson Guard (Maryland Finest)- Anderson is a slashing guard the used the floater to score in the lane. He has a quick handle and knows how to put the ball in the hole.

Charles Creek Forward (Maryland Finest)- The lefty scored a few easy layups in the open floor. On this level he used his width to rebound and score. He scored some big baskets today.

Jimmy Kpadeh Guard (Maryland Finest)- Kpadeh hit a big three to answer a trey by Team NJABC. He plays with a high motor and very effective on this level. He’s a serious pest on defense.

Anthony Hoggard Guard (Team NJ ABC)- Hoggard is a flat out scorer. He has a soft jump shot and knows how to use his body to shield shot blockers. Some players have that special gear and you can see it when they are young. Hoggard might be one of those players.

Jalen Gaffney Guard (Team NJ ABC)- The floor general sees the floor well. I like his smooth handle and how much he understands the position as a youngster. I believe we have another outstanding point in this South Jersey resident.

AGame Super Shootout Top Performers Day 1 (Baby Ballers)

Luther Muhammad (We Run)

The AGame Super Shootout took place this weekend at Hill School in Pottstown, PA and Basketball Spotlight was in the building. The 11U Division had a fierce battle between Delaware Royalty and We Run. Royalty won in overtime.

11U Top Performers Day 1 (Baby Ballers)

Luther Muhammad Forward (We Run)- His team lost in overtime but Luther is something to watch. He plays inside on defense but on offense the long forward can go coast to coast like a guard. He changes directions well and can score whenever he wants. You will be hearing a lot about this kid for years to come.

Justin Rodriquez Guard (We Run)- Rodriquez has a wet jump shot but also can hurt you with his sneaky handle. He played with good poise against the pressure defense. We will be keeping an eye out for this kid.

Jacob Hunt Guard (Delaware Royalty)- Hunt is a very unselfish floor general with good speed and court vision. He loves the drive and kick game while using a low dribble to get into the lane.

Kiyon Johnson Forward (Delaware Royalty)- Johnson has good size for his position. He can score from the outside or in the paint. He has the chance to become the go to guy for this team.

Jamal Whittlesey Forward (Delaware Royalty)- The big fella does a good job of clogging up the lane and controlling the glass. As he gets older he will need to become a little more athletic because the competition will become quicker and longer.

AGame Super Shootout Top Performers Day 1

Darius Gillon (Team Final)

The AGame Super Shootout took place this weekend at Hill School in Pottstown, PA and Basketball Spotlight was in the building. The 13U Division was loaded with talent and here’s a look at the Day 1 Top Performers.

13U Top Performers Day 1

Darius Gillon Forward (Team Final)- Gillon played an inspired game against MABC. He pushed the rock and made some good decisions. Inside he used his quickness to snatch rebounds (12) and score some buckets (17 points). When he’s playing like this TF is very difficult to defeat.

Jamir Harris Guard (Team Final)- Harris also had some good moments. He’s strong as a bull and finishes well with either hand. I like his body control and how he maneuvers around shot blockers. Harris also displays more confidence handling the rock and making decisions as a lead guard. He was the high scorer for TF with 19 markers.

Darius Roundtree Forward (Team Final)- The other Darius was a menace on the glass but also has shown some improved ball handling. He attacked from the wing and had confidence in the face up jumper. He definitely plays with a lot of energy.

Keith Washington Guard (Team Final)- Washington is a scoring guard inside a point guard's frame. This kid is a true finisher with a mid range pull up similar to Vinnie Johnson. Since he heats up quickly we will give him the same nickname as Johnson. Introducing Keith “The Microwave” Washington.

Sayon Charles Forward (Gauchos)- Charles had a great showing today. He hit the jumper from the free throw area and even showed some range behind the arc. Right now he’s very comfortable in his new role and exudes the confidence on the floor. He should develop into a legit wing.

Nyrhique Smith Guard (Gauchos)- “La Smoove” allowed the game to come to him and delivered some nice passes in the process. The crafty guard has a lot of tricks in his bag and will bring them out when necessary. His reverse layup against Philly Triple Threat brought some cheers from the crowd.

Mustafa Heron Forward (Gauchos)- After battling foul trouble in the first game Heron got things going in the second contest against KBR. He was tenacious on the glass and took advantage of them not having any shot blockers.

Ceasar Adim Forward (MABC)- “Hail” Ceasar was gave TF all they could handle in their meeting. He’s no longer the biggest player on the floor but now he handles the rock like a guard and powers his way to the tin. Finally, he was a true warrior on the glass. It was fun watching him battle with Darius Gillon.

Joshua Sharkey Guard (PTT)- Sharkey wasn’t fantastic but he did put pressure on the Gauchos with his dribble drives. He split the defense and caused some foul trouble. This kid has a serious handle.

Lamar Stevens Guard (PTT)- Something tells me that this kid could be something special. I like his size and some of the skills he showed. He does need to be a little more aggressive but that will probably come in time.

Introducing Malik Newman (#1 Player In America?)

Malik Newman Regarded By Some As The #1 8th Grader In America

Malik Newman is a 6’4 guard from Jackson, Mississippi with a lot of game. The 8th Grader rocks with MBA and has received rave reviews from some of the biggest scouts in youth basketball. Prep Spotlight founder and Nike Scout Vince Baldwin is intrigued by Newman’s game and potential. “Malik Newman is one of the best offensive guards I’ve seen in a long time. He can score the ball from all three levels (mid range, deep and at the basket). His jump shot might be one of his biggest weapons” Baldwin said.

In terms of the future Baldwin feels Malik has a chance to be one of the best. “If he continues to improve he has a chance to become something special. He’s the best 8th Grade offensive guard I’ve seen since Tyreke Evans” Baldwin finished. Basketball Spotlight will give our own assessment of Newman when we watch him in person at the John Lucas camp. Check out some of his highlights and remember where you saw him first.

Diary Of A Baller: Otis "The General" Livingston (NJ Got Game) Entry #19

What’s up everyone?

It’s “The General” again with another entry.

This week we didn’t have school because of winter break. To start off the week I was under the weather so I just stayed in bed and just rested. After I was over the sickness, my knee was killing me, to a point where I didn’t want to walk around the house. My mom told me to ice and that really helped me. I had to get my knee ready for practice with got game.

Thursday was our practice. My knee was still bothering me so I was limping around most of the time, but you have to keep playing regardless. We did some boxing out drills and worked on the shell defense for the majority of practice. Shell is just a defense were your always on the ball, in help and/or denying the pass. I like this defense because I can pressure the ball knowing that there is help behind me. Coach Pete said that this whole year we have to be smarter because if some of us aren’t already in high school, we will be going next year and he is preparing us.

On Saturday we had another practice. Basically the whole practice we ran this new play. It’s a motion type offense and it has a lot of options. It’s easy to run, but it’s difficult to defend. We also worked on getting open and snapping the pass every time because athletic teams can get into the lane and steal or tip the ball away. After that I just headed home, rested up a bit, and went to the St. Pats’ vs. Linden game. It was a good game. I think St. Pats rushed their shots a little and didn’t get to the rack enough, which is their bread and butter. I give Linden a lot of credit though; they played hard after getting into a hole. I think they let the game get away from them by taking bad shots, and just making bad decisions in general.

To end my week I had a light shooting workout with my dad. We worked on getting the ball higher on the release because I was watching Kobe Bryant barely getting the ball over defenders and that’s what I need to do. After he went to work I just hung out with my brother. I whooped him in chess a couples times. LOL. That’s it for my week tune in next time for another entry.

The General is out!

AC Showcase Flashback: Team Battle Escapes F.A.C.E.S.

Team Battle Conquers Atlantic City Showcase

Jamir Harris and Darius Gillon scored 10 points apiece as Team Battle defeated 38-31 to win the Atlantic City Showcase Championship. Sa’eed Nelson scored 7 points for F.A.C.E.S. in the loss. This year the AC Showcase has picked up more steam with several teams from out of the area. This is a tournament you don’t want to miss.

In The Spotlight: Alex Twynam (Colts Neck)

Name: Alex Twynam

School: Colts Neck

Position: Shooting Guard

Class: 2015

Breakdown: Twynam scored the ball well for Colts Neck during their win at the Run For The Roses. He powered his way to the cup while splitting the defense. His tough style helped his team advance to Saturday’s championship.

Team Felton Headed To AC Showcase

Raymond Felton's Sponsored Squad "Team Felton" Will Be In The AC Showcase

The Atlantic City tournament has grown since its inception. This year Team Felton from South Carolina has decided to join us in America's Playground. This team is loaded with talent.

Harry Giles one of the top 7th Graders in the country will making his Spotlight debut with his Team Felton squad at the Atlantic City Showcase. Giles exploded on the scene last season after the DC Assault Classic. He went on the have impressive showings at the AAU Nationals and several other tournaments.

Giles is not the only stud with this crew. Mike Buckland is one of the top point guards in the country and would have done a great job at the Nationals but he was sidelined with an injury. I know he is anxious to show his talent.

Finally, you can’t forget about Jalek Hamilton. He proved to be great teammate while playing out of position during Buckland’s injury. Now he can go back to scoring the rock and playing aggressive defense.

Run For The Roses Recap: North Brunswick And Colts Neck Advance To Finals

Jamir Harris Pumped In 26 Points In The Semifinals

The Run For The Roses Middle School tournament entered into the semifinals of the Purple Division and Basketball Spotlight was in the building for the action. Here are the scores and breakdown of some of the top performers.

Game 1:
North Brunswick 50
Neptune 33

Game 2
Colts Neck 44
Eisenhower MS 30

Top Performers

Jamir Harris Guard (North Brunswick)- Harris led all scorers with 26 points and literally carried his team into the finals. Jamir’s perimeter game has improved since watching him last summer. He played under control and was able to make some good guard decisions with the pill. Neptune had no answer for him once he got into the teeth of the defense. This kid plays with a non-stop motor.

Marcus Ashmole Forward (North Brunswick)- Ashmole played well in the interior by rebounding and controlling the paint. I would like to see him display some more perimeter skills because it will prepare for him for his high school career. Right now he just uses strength and out works opponents.

Camy Calderon Guard (Neptune)- Calderon has the quickness to get into the lane at will. His low center of gravity makes it difficult to pluck him. He also loves using the floater to convert buckets. He played good denial defense on Harris in the 4th quarter but the game’s outcome was already decided. I like this kid’s toughness.

Chris Oreilly Guard (Colts Neck)- Orielly is a very confident player that roams the floor with a lot of swagger. He finished with 16 points while picking up his play after struggling a little in the first half. When his outside shot wasn’t falling he did other things such as rebound or dish to teammates. You will be hearing alot from this kid in the Shore Conference soon.

Kyle Czajkowski Guard (Eisenhower Middle)-Kyle tried to keep his team in the game by using his quickness to get past the defense. He exploited small gaps within the defense and used them to get to the tin. His squad came up short but you had to notice his effort.

#11?
Colts Neck had another player that stood out who wore number 11. I left the gym without getting his name. If anyone knows the name of this player please email me at basketballspotlight@hotmail.com

Video Profile: Tyler Dorsey (Cali Styles)

Name: Tyler Dorsey

AAU Team: Cali Styles

Position: Shooting Guard

Class: 2015

Breakdown: Dorsey made his Spotlight debut with a heavy rep. He’s rated in the Top 5 of the country on several sites. During the Clash For The Cup he didn’t disappoint as he showed his all around game including scoring, rebounding and making teammates better. Check out some of his highlights and stay tuned because we have more to come.
