What’s Up Basketball Spotlight World, It’s Jaquan Harris and I’m back with my Diary Of A Baller. Here’s how my week went.
Monday: I was off of school the whole week so I was able to catch up on the sleep I lost from training a lot and homework. It was the first day of my vacation it rained all day, I ended up staying home and rested for the day but I still dribbled at home and did enough so I feel I worked out.
Tuesday: I slept late, but later in the day I was back in the gym with my trainer Erick Myrick. We were working on my decision making when it comes to screens. For example, when to counter, when to split, when to go off it, when to bring it out and call for another one. That’s one thing I work on all the time because screens make the game easier on ball and off ball. Me knowing what to do off the screens might make a difference from 10 points to 20 points or 5 assists to 10 assists.
Wednesday: I woke up kind of early and went to the park since it was hot outside for the first time in a while it felt good. I had practice we were preparing for our first session at Elevate Hoops Proving Grounds. I played last year and we fell short so this year we’re trying to win it. At practice we went over all of our sets but also played a little bit because we have to get the feel of the sets in game time situations.
Thursday: I’m getting close to making my final decision for high school. It’s taking me a long time because I want to make sure I can excel as a person and a player throughout the four years I’m there. Also, I want to be able to make mistakes and learn from them as I play not just be restricted to one mistake and I won’t play for the rest of the game. So hopefully the decision will be made soon it’s a lot to think about but in the long run it’ll help.
Friday: I was taking it slow today since it was the day before Elevate Hoops. We had a late practice so I just got shots up during practice and after practice just to make sure I’m ready. We had two games Saturday and two games Sunday so I had to make sure I would be able to play both games hard and be 100%. I iced my knees before I went to sleep and I was ready to go in the morning.
Saturday: The games were at Staten Island College. We played an early game and one in the afternoon, we played Gauchos our first game. Tip off started we started off slow and it came back at us at the end of the game. We ended up having to fight back and lost by 3 because we didn’t have enough time. They weren’t close to our skill level we just played bad so they got away with one but that won’t happen again. I played well but I could have done more and I will make sure I do what u have to do the rest of the weekend. Next game was against We R 1 that was a big statement game for us since my team used to be combined with theirs. So, it was basically a game to see who was better, we came out on fire they had to keep switching match ups because they couldn’t guard any of us in man. The game got close towards the end but we pulled away and won the game. I played way better than the first games on both ends of the floor.
Sunday: Our first game we played Team Melo we played them earlier in the season, so we knew they were going to come out looking for revenge. The was started early because the team before us got mercy ruled so we weren’t really stretched and had to fight through it. We ended up starting off slow again and whenever we starting off slow we have to fight back at the end. We let the pull away and had a chance to tie the game at the end but we weren’t able to so we lost again by 3. That game was a harder game but we still could have won. I played good on both sides of the ball but we just couldn’t get it done. Next, we played Philly Triple Threat we had to get this win because my team and I refused to go home 1-3 at least we could even it out and go 2-2. Once tip off started we began to blow them out we had a 15 to 20-point lead to the whole game. We all executed and took advantage of the lead and got the job done we won by 20 and could go home on a win.
