Five Star Showcase Recap: Class 2013 (Usual Suspects)

Johnson's Point Guard Skills Were On Display!

Five Star conducted its Elite 80 Showcase at Temple University and Basketball Spotlight was in the building. The Class of 2013 had a good amount of players so we decided to do 2 reports. Our second report will focus on players that have appeared on the site before but still used this event to shine.

Class 2013 Report (Usual Suspects)

Jaquan Johnson Guard (Chester, PA)- The southpaw is hard to defend because he has the strength and skills to get where ever he wants on the floor. He uses a crossover and hesitation dribble to open the lane for him to get to the tin. Once he gets to the shot blocking area he uses his body the shield to trees before converting.

Conrad Chambers Guard (Chester, PA)- Chambers performance during his first game is the reason he’s rated as one of the top guards around. Conrad literally toyed with the defenders when going to the cup. He had a sharp handle and finished off plays with ease. He was definitely the talk of the showcase after Game 1.

Steven Griffin Guard (Philadelphia, PA)- You have to love the way Griffin competes. He has good lift on his jump shot and uses his athletic skills to play the passing lanes. Watch out for him in a few years he might explode on the high school scene.

Rondee Jefferson Forward (Chester, PA)- Jefferson showed some versatility by pushing the rock and even dishing a couple of passes. On defense he was a menace early on by blocking shots and controlling to glass. The lanky forward does to need to work on finishing inside.

Darius Robinson Guard (Chester, PA)- Robinson proved to back to form as he showed all facets of his game. The jump shot was wet and he even crossed a few defenders while gliding for easy lay ins. Darius summed his day with a 3 point bomb a few feet away from half court.

Malik Starks Guard (Philadelphia, PA)- Starks wasn’t as spectacular as he was at the Philly USA event but he was effective. His length continues to one of his best attributes when attacking defenders. His potential is also enormous.

Yosef Yacob Guard (Chester, PA)- I haven’t seen Yosef in a while but his game is still fluid and on point. He created space with his handle and drained the jumper when it was available. His game should elevate for years to come.
