AC Showcase 7th Grade Top Performers Part 1

AJ Hoggard (Team Durant)

The 7th Grade Division of the AC Showcase brought together some of the top teams in the country. It was truly a wealth of talent down there and here’s Part 1 of our Top Performers.

AC Showcase 7th Grade Top Performers Part 1

AJ Hoggard Guard (Team Durant)- In the finals Hoggard came off the bench and put the team on his back. His physical style was stuff for the smaller George Hill squad to contain. His ability to look over the defense allowed him to knockdown the trey ball and take many stripes to the charity stripe. He nailed two treys and hit seven free throws in their championship win.

Jordan Toles Guard (Team Durant)- Toles once again displayed himself as one of the team’s top performers over the weekend. He averaged close to 13 points again including an 18 point outing in their first double-digit pool loss to George Hill. Toles stays in attack mode which usually yields great results especially in transition.

Tyler Brelsford Guard (Team Durant)- Brelsford came to play in Atlantic City. He seemed to let the game come to him and he stroked the ball well from behind the arc. His basketball IQ allows him to be at the right place on the floor. He scored 14 points in their quarterfinal victory over the Gauchos including nine free throws.
Isaiah Todd Forward (Team Durant)- Back at the Clash for The Cup Todd had a game winning steal and layup to give the Terror Squad the title. This time it was a huge defensive play in the semifinals that helped propel them to the finals. RIP City had a breakaway layup late in the game and Todd came from out of nowhere to block the shot to the glass. His block led to Terror Squad bucket and helped them seal the deal.

Mike Saunders Jr. Guard (Rising Stars)- Saunders almost single handily took the title home for the Rising Stars. In the semifinals he nailed six treys and dropped 22 points in their victory over DC Premier then exploded for seven treys and 26 markers in their championship loss to the Terror Squad. Mike ball handling and ability to create space and picked up this year. He easily has to be considered one of the best guards in the country.

Hunter Jackson Guard (Rising Stars)- Speaking of top guards in the country, Jackson name has to be included. He went to work throughout the weekend and really shined in his teams pool play blow out of the Terror squad. Jackson scored a few buckets but played more of a facilitator role as they spread Team Durant defense out. Jackson was able to penetrate the gaps and either kick it to teammates or get buckets on his own. He showed well on the top stage.

Brevin Jefferson Guard (Rising Stars)- Jefferson’s offensive help in the semifinals helped them reach the championship. He scored the ball well against DC Premier, finishing with 12 points. He a great complimentary player to Jackson and Saunders. He also has the ability to stretch the defense.

AC Showcase 8th Grade Top Performers Part 4

Khyree Temple (Team Final)

The 8th Grade Division of the AC Showcase featured some of the best talent in the country. Here’s Part 4 of our top performers from the weekend.

AC Showcase 8th Grade Top Performers Part 4

Khyree Temple Forward (Team Final)- Many players have stepped heir game up for their 8th Grade season but Temple might have taken the biggest leap. The lefty showed out during the AC Showcase and lined himself as one of the top wings in the country. He’s developed his ball handling, play making and outside shot. But he still flourishes in the open floor by running rim to rim like a deer. He had a big game in the finals collecting on a game high 28 points and finishing off the contest by catching an alley-oop dunk. We were greatly impressed with his skills.

Fahmir Ali Guard (Team Final)- Ali made his Spotlight debut and he knew we missed his scoring so he treated us with some smooth buckets during the championship. He nailed 3 treys and scored on a couple more floaters on his way to 18 points. He has the enact ability to get his shot off regardless of the defense and seems be a little more athletic than we give him credit for.
Mark Bradshaw Guard (Team Final)- My scout at the Sovereign School said Bradshaw looked like a miniature James Harden during their semifinal match-up against CIA Bounce. The high scoring southpaw finished with 3 treys and 16 points after also scoring 14 points against Team Bos from Boston. He seems to have settle in with Team Final.
Kasim Tolliver Guard (Team Final)- In the finals Tolliver looked like a kid in the candy store dropping dimes to the loaded squad. He got out in transition and spoon fed his teammates for buckets. He looks to back quarterbacking one of the top teams in the region.
Eligah Wynn Guard (Harlem Jets)- Wynn’s squad came up short in the finals but the point guard once again proved to be one of the best guards in the region. He tallied 21 markers in the championship after also scoring 20 points against City Rocks. This season he has been one of the most consistent guards in the country. This kid is a bulldog.
Adeleye Oyekanium Forward (Harlem Jets)- His name might be difficult to pronounce but his game is easy to remember. The forward added another big weekend to his resume while posting 18 points in their championship loss. He also destroyed competition during pool play especially the 22 markers he posted against City Rocks. He and Wynn might be one of the best tandems around.

James Bishops Guard (B’More Finest)- Bishop is perhaps the best pure scorer on our circuit. This kid dazzled the AC Showcase with a 24 point outburst against Buffalo Bounce and another 22 points versus NY Lightning. One thing is for certain this kid can find the bottom of the hole. His scoring reminds me of Nate “The Great” Pierre Louis.

Tah Jai Waiters Guard (CIA Bounce)- Waiters also made his Spotlight debut and didn’t disappoint. His big was a 20 point outing versus Team Final in the semifinals. He possesses the knack to score and does it very easy. He made the most of his only trip to the Spotlight this season.

Papie Roberts Guard (Newark Pharaoh)- Every tournament Roberts light ups someone ad in this event it was Team Bos. He hit the Boston crew for 27 points. The strong pesky guard is hard to contain and plays with enormous energy.

Fatayn Wesley Guard (Play Hard)- The Play Hard guard stroked the rock like it was his last time on the floor. He nailed 6 treys versus NY Lightning and also had 20 points against Buffalo Bounce. He has proven to be a legit scorer during his play on the Spotlight circuit.

AC Showcase 8th Grade Top Performers Part 3

Kobe Langley (CP3 All Stars)

The 8th Grade Division of the AC Showcase featured some of the best talent in the country. Here’s Part 3 of our top performers from the weekend.

AC Showcase 8th Grade Top Performers Part 3

Kobe Langley Guard (CP3 All Stars)- After having a quiet first game versus Team Ennis, Kobe woke up like a lion against Team Rio and Team Takeover. The lefty stepped up by showing explosion and a skill set which included a pull up jumper. He has the ability to create space from defenders ad get wherever he wants on the floor. He tallied 11 points versus Team Rio and 13 markers in their narrow victory over Team Takeover.

Mike Green Guard (CP3 All Stars)- The sharp shooter had his best outing in their showdown with Team RIO. In the second half of this tough battle Mike knocked down two trey balls while finishing with 10 points. He’s been known for years as a clutch performer and at this event it wasn’t any different. He also finished with 10 markers versus Team Ennis.
Wendell Moore Forward (CP3 All Stars)- Moore had a consistent weekend scoring 8 points a game which is a lot because of CP3 rack of talent and style of play. But against Team RIO when they wanted to make a run for the victory they placed him on the blocks and let him eat. The versatile forward delivered as usual.

Chris Hinton Forward (CP3 All Stars)- The strong forward gives the national champs more depth and another consistent rebounder. He hammered the glass hard and established post position especially against Team Ennis. His wide and strong frame gives him a strength advantage over many defenders on this level.

Max Farthing Forward (CP3 All Stars)- I like Farthing size and his ability to step out and hit the face up jumper. He draws the big forward from the opposing squad out of the paint which opens up the driving lanes for the guards. He also can step back past the three point line to shoot.

Jaden Campbell Guard (Team Ennis)- This wing guard scored at will against some of the top teams in the country. He displayed the ability to score from all the levels and finish off tough plays in the paint. He nailed five treys on his way to 19 points versus Team RIO and two treys while scoring 17 points against CP3 All Stars. This could have been his coming out party.

Avan Nava Guard (Team Ennis)- Nava was one of the best catch and shot guys in the building. Just ask Team Takeover how he drilled them for 18 markers. He had no fear going up against some of the best defenders in the USA. He also finished with 11 points versus Team Rio National. This kid can stroke it.
Noah Wharton Guard (Team Ennis)- Wharton ran the show for the Canada team over the weekend. His slick handle helped their dribble drive game and open up gaps for teammates. His big scoring game came against Team Takeover finished with 18 points in which 9 of them came from the charity stripe. Which means they had a tough time keeping him out the lane.

AC Showcase 8th Grade Top Performers Part 2

Balsa Kopriva (Team Florida)

The 8th Grade Division of the AC Showcase featured some of the best talent in the country. Here’s Part 2 of our top performers from the weekend.

AC Showcase 8th Grade Top Performers Part 2

Balsa Kopriva Forward (Team Florida)- The highly touted forward proved to be worth his national rep this past weekend. He had the crowd in frenzy with his size alone but when he showed his skill set they loved him even more. The 6’11 forward scored deep inside with dunks and close buckets. But against Team Takeover he stepped out and nailed to face up jumper on his way to 20 points.

Xavien Flowers Guard (Team Florida)- The ultra-quick point guard gets to the cup whenever he wants and can score the rock when needed. He came up big in their narrow when against Team Takeover scoring 12 points and including the game winner as the buzzer sounded. He was one of the toughest guards in the building.
Vernon Carey Forward (Team Florida)- As Kopriva fought foul trouble against DC Premier Carey stepped up inside. He initiated contact and spent much of the day at the charity. He nailed 8 straight free throws in the second half to help propel them to the victory. He’s a good weak side player to go along with Kopriva.
Joshua Sanguinetti Guard (Team Florida)- Joshua is another scoring guard for this Florida group. He has more size than Flowers and scores well in the transition game. He finishing ability allowed to score double digits against Team Takeover and DC Premier.
Marvin Price Forward (DC Premier)- Price brought his lunch pail to the AC Showcase. The southpaw showed outside touch and punished defenders while driving to the bucket. The Wayman Tisdale type forward poured in 18 points against both Team Takeover and Team Florida. Regardless of the competition this kid tends to get off.
Christian Depollar Forward (DC Premier)- You have to love Depollar’s game especially on the next level. He has good size and get hit the outside shot. He tends to a matchup problem because of his quickness along the baseline. He scored 11 markers against Team RIO and Team Florida.
Matthew Morsell Guard (DC Premier)- Morsell scores like we breath. He attacks the gaps on the offensive using a nice floater or finishing at the cup. His quickness and craftiness stands out with his unique scoring prowess. His best game was a 15 point outing against Team Florida.

AC Showcase 8th Grade Top Performers Part 1

Bryant Antoine (Team RIO National)

The 8th Grade Division of the AC Showcase featured some of the best talent in the country. Here’s Part 1 of our top performers from the weekend.

AC Showcase 8th Grade Top Performers Part 1

Bryant Antoine Guard (Team RIO National)- Antoine solidified his spot as one of the top lead guards in the country after his performance over the weekend. He showed off his athleticism, feel for the game and scoring prowess. He averaged close to 18 points a game including 19 points against Team Florida and an eye popping 28 markers versus DC Premier.

Scottie Lewis Guard (Team Rio National)- Lewis delivered on his highlights over the weekend by playing over the rim on a regular basis. He had a few dunks that took the breath away from the crowd. He also showed the ability to put together moves to get clean looks. But I think his presence on the other side of the floor needs notice. Lewis is the leading shot blocker on the team and plays the passing lanes like a shut door cornerback. His energy level takes flows over to his team.

Jalen Gaffney Guard (Team RIO National)- I can’t say enough about this kid has returned to one of the top point guards in the region. His growth spurt and improved strength allows him to get into the lane with ease and finish off plays. His court vision allows him to keep the Rio thoroughbreds’ happy. Finally when you double down or the ball is reversed he will make you pay from deep.
Tariq Ingraham Forward (Team IO National)- Ingraham battled some of the best bigs in the country and was very productive. His best scoring game was a 13 point outing against Team Ennis but his post defense and rebounded definitely stood out. His a mountain to shoot over and clogs the lane to help slow down penetrating guards.

Daniel Rodriquez Forward (Team RIO National)- The new addition to this crew gave Rio great energy off the bench and helped out on the glass. He runs rim to rim very quickly and rebounds out of position well. He helped his teammates get many second chance points over the weekend.

Justin Moore Guard (Team Takeover)- Moore made his Spotlight debut and shined in Atlantic City. His scoring ability and body control makes him tough to defend. He has a fluid mid-range jumper and shiftiness to get past defenders. He’s not the quickness or most athletic on the floor but might be one of the most efficient guards in the country. His best outings were 16 points against Team Florida and rival DC Premier.
Terrence Williams Forward (Team Takeover)- Williams played on the big stage with TTO this past weekend. He came to life in their showdown against rival DC Premier. In the second half he took advantage of Premiers lack of inside size as he connected for 14 points. Once he gets going inside he’s tough to slow down.
Anthony Harris Guard (Team Takeover)- The speedster one again showed he can contribute in a various of ways. He scores the ball quickly and often. He also can cover either guard position and apply pressure on the rock. He dropped 11 points in their 4 point victory over DC Premier.
