Final Quarter Feat: Austin Colbert

When you travel to a different state to compete in a showcase event you have to make sure you bring your game because you represented your hometown. Austin Colbert did that and much more has he won the MVP honors at the Gym Rat Midnight Madness. Colbert took the up Rt. 13 from Chesapeake, Virginia to the Garden State and didn’t waste his father’s gas money. We got a chance to holla at the event and here’s what he had to say. This is the Final Quarter!

8:00
BS: How did you end up coming to this event in New Jersey?
AC: My mom had heard about the event and she wanted me to come up and see what I could do. She told me to just go out there and have fun.

7:00
BS: What AAU team do you play for?
AC: I currently play for the Virginia Beach Heat.

6:00
BS: If you could compare your game to any NBA player who would you compare it to?
AC: Kevin Garnett because I can play the post like a traditional power forward but I also can put the ball on the floor and create my own shot. I also like his work ethic he works very hard on his game.

5:00
BS: If you could wake up tomorrow at any college in the country what school would it be and why?
AC: It would be North Carolina because I like Roy Williams and the players they have produced like Michael Jordan, Vince Carter, Jerry Stackhouse and others.

4:00
BS: What part of your game you feel needs the most work?
AC: I think I need to work on driving hard to the left. My left hand needs to get stronger.

3:00
BS: If you could have dinner with one person who would you pick?
AC: Dwight Howard because he’s a good athlete but more importantly they say he’s just a good person with a nice heart.

2:00
BS: Who is the most influential person in your life?
AC: My father because he was the first one to put a ball in my hands. He was very good in his day and he just gives me the right advice about the game of basketball.

1:00
BS: Who’s the best 8th Grader in Virginia?
AC: Not to be self-centered or anything but I think I am because I can do it all.
