Diary Of A Baller: Lucas Hudson (Center Valley, PA) Entry #9

Lucas At Funsport

Hello basketball world. I’m back with another diary. My week was a long and fun one. So here it goes.

Monday I had a half-day of school, so I got to go home early. When I got home I did my homework, I ate, and then I did some ball handling and got some shots up in my driveway. On Tuesday I had another half-day. I worked out with my trainer, Obe, before school. And after school, some of my friends came over to my house. We had a lot of fun. We went to Pizza Hut, played football, and we also watched one of my favorite movies, “The Waterboy.” We even visited my grandmother, Lulu. After my friends left, it was time for some hard work. I had a great and productive workout at a local gym.

Wednesday I had my first practice of the year with Team Final. The practice was very good and everyone was focused. Coach Orlando really had us focusing on little things like talking, and being more physical. All these things will help us tremendously as we get to the next stage in our basketball careers, and that “next level” is high school.

Thursday was Thanksgiving. It’s a great day to be with family, eat, and be thankful for what our great Lord gave us! This year my family came to my house for Thanksgiving. We had a great time and I even got to play Ping-Pong with my grandmother, and she is pretty good. Friday I had a scrimmage with my AAU team, Team Final. We scrimmaged Roman Catholics’ junior varsity team. At first they used their size and athleticism to take a quick lead. But after we calmed down, we fought back. And, in my opinion, we out-played them in the last couple of quarters (we played 5, 8 minute quarters). All in all, this scrimmage prepared us for what we would face in Baltimore that weekend.

Saturday Team Final played the first round in the Baltimore Elite Winter League or BEWL. This league consists of some of the top teams in the East Coast. And the competition was outstanding. We went 2-1, losing a hard fought game with Team Izod/Sports U. We did beat Expressions and Team Future. So overall we did a great job considering we were missing 5 of our players due to the Holiday weekend. I can’t wait to have our full team together; it is going to be scary. Shout out to Nick, D’Andre, Malick, Quade, JP and our 7th grade help Cameron and El Khana for leaving it all on the court on Saturday.

Sunday, I played a local travel team tournament with ESYC. We beat a team from Bethlehem, Pa by 20 in the championship game. It was a good feeling winning a championship with some of my good friends. Shout out to my friend, JJ, for getting the tournament MVP.

Next weekend is the Basketball Spotlight Tip Off Classic. And Team Final will be in the lab during this week getting ready for the tough competition we will face. I am very excited.

Well that was my week. It was very busy and exiting. Oh, I almost forgot. One very nice mother came to me in Baltimore and asked me to mention that boys with braces should always wear their retainer after their braces are taken off. This saves parents a lot of money!

See you guys next week!
