Spotlight Alum Bagley Joins The Blue Devils!

Basketball Spotlight Alum Marvin Bagley Jr. has committed to Duke University. Bagley starred at the Basketball Spotlight Atlantic City Showcase with the famed We All Can Go All Stars. Bagley left middle school rated as the #1 player in the country and held on to that title through high school. He also has decided to forgo his senior year and enter Duke this fall. Marvin holds the title of being the most dominant 8th Grader to ever come through Basketball Spotlight.

Basketball Spotlight 8th Grade Post Season Awards

The Basketball Spotlight 8th Grade circuit was one of the best we have seen in recent years. Here is a look at our 8th Grade Award winners for the season.

Team Of The Year: (NY Rens) 
The NY Rens displayed a dominant performance at the Clash For The Cup as they mercy ruled just about every opponent. They went on to also dominate in other major tournaments while capturing several championships. This was a very serious squad.

Coach Of The Year: Everton Browne (NY Dragons) 
Browne led the Dragons to the AC Showcase Championship while knocking off several top-notch teams on his way. He also ventured out and play in other top events in the country while putting his squad on the national map.

Player Of The Year: Terrence Clarke (Expressions) 
This was a tough one but we gave Clarke the nod because he came out to play against the best competition at every event. The smooth wing guard had some big games and proved to be one of the best players in the country.

Most Outstanding Player: Mousa Cisse (NY Rens) 
This forward sent shock waves through the Clash For The Cup. He was the most dominant force we seen this season on both ends of the floor. He has a name we should be hearing for years to come. A total beast.

Most Improved Player Award: Noah Harris (NJ Bulldogs) 
Harris improvement in his game showed at the Tip Off Classic with Team Rio and the AC Showcase with NJ Bulldogs. The combo guard gave us a taste of his range and ability to break down defenders. Once he got hot it was very difficult to slow him down.

Best Prospect Award: Trey Patterson (Team Rio National) 
In Patterson’s only Spotlight appearance, he showed he was simply on a different level. He displayed good versatility and was virtually unstoppable when his jump shot was falling. Look for him to be in the Top 5 of many ranking list in the fall.

Best Scorer Award: Jalen Hammond (New York Phenoms) 
Regardless of what team he suited up for Hammond made sure he got buckets. He was a monster going to the basket and especially in transition. He has a swift handle and good change of speed moves. He’s capable of putting any team on his back.

Defensive Player Of The Year: Jai Smith (NY Dragons) 
Smith was ferocious on the defensive end and on the boards. He was able to guard multiple positions and block shots in his area. He played with big energy and understands his role on the floor. Keep an eye on this kid.

Newcomer Of The Year: Mohammad Aminu (Dynamic Disciples) Aminu was a beast on the Spotlight circuit. He attacked the rim like Dwayne Wade and scored against some of the best teams in the country. He had the swagger and killer instinct that carried the Disciples deep in a few tournaments. He has a bright future ahead of him.

Best Playmaker Award: Bray Freeman (New World Unlimited) Freeman was on a mission this year and has put his name in discussion as the best floor general in the region. His handle is superb and he can either score the rock or drop a nice dime. He put on a show at the Tip Off Classic.

Sonny Johnson Jr. Prime For Future Phenom Camp!

Class of 2022 beware, Sonny Johnson Jr. has just registered for the Future Phenom Camp. The Ohio native recently led Hardwork Basketball to the Fab 48 8th Grade Championship. Johnson has been a national name for the past few years and has dominated many camps and showcase events. Johnson currently ranks 21st on our national list and has a great chance to move up. Now he will be coming to the Spotlight to battle the best. 

The Basketball Spotlight Future Phenom Camp will take place August 26th and 27th in Boyd’s, MD. Stay tuned as we bring you more top players that will be entering this event.

Spotlight Alum Quinerly Picks Arizona!

As the world found out last night Spotlight Alum Jahvon Quinerly has committed to the University Of Arizona. Quinerly spent his grammar school career starring on the Spotlight with Playtime, Team Elite, King Street Kings, and Sports U AKA Supreme Team. The point guard took home several titles while claiming the Spotlight POY as an 8th Grader. His play has edged his name in stone of Spotlight legacy.

Trenton Youth Basketball Summer League Middle School Division Championship Recap!

Brian Davis Jr. Wins The Championship

Ricky Spruill Jr. scored 27 points but it wasn’t enough as Brian Davis Jr. defeated Katrina Davis 45-42 to win the Trenton Youth Basketball Summer League Middle School Division Championship. Top Performers

Our MVP: Robert Mathis Guard (Brian Davis Jr.)- Mathis stepped up and made some key plays to help his team when the title. He was able to finish through contact while converting at the cup. He showed some good guard skills with an outside shot and creating opportunities for teammates. I heard he’s also good on the gridiron which is always a plus.

Kelvin Bropleh Guard (Brian Davis Jr.)- This lefty was seen attacking the basket at every chance he could. He operated on the baseline and charging from the wing. He can guard multiple positions and doesn’t mind getting dirty on defense. He has some athleticism that definitely stands out.

Jason Pintella Forward (Brian Davis Jr.)- Pintella was like Charles Oakley in this event. He finished some tough buckets in the lane even after getting fouled. He understands his role and plays it well. He also was very efficient at the charity stripe.

Ricky Spruill Guard (Katrina Davis)- Spruill went crazy in the scoring column by attacking in transition and finishing at the cup while absorbing contact. He attacked the lane like a running back and also impressed me with a couple of dimes he dropped. He was relentless from horn to buzzer.

Zamir Brown Guard (Katrina Davis)- Brown was the best prospect on the court and showed us some flashes. I like how he can create and finish with both hands. He also showed he could attack on the bounce and does have some athleticism. He does need to work on his outside shot and being a little more aggressive.

Coderite Electric Wins Title

CJ Owens scored 13 points and dropped a bunch of dimes as Coderite Electric defeated Positive Black Image Connect 38-23 to win the Trenton Youth Basketball Summer League Elementary Division Championship. Top Performers

Our MVP: CJ Owens Guard (Coderite Electric)- We give Owens the nod for the MVP of the game because he brought it from the outset. The floor general used his quickness and low center of gravity to dominate the competition. He made us love his drive, draw and dish game while also finishing in traffic around shot blockers. Owens has a natural knack of running the point which should take him far in this game.

Hashon Cannon Guard (Coderite Electric)- Cannon name is on the rise in the Mercer County region. This youngster’s versatility stands out. He can grab a rebound and push the rock full distance before creating a play or finishing himself. He has the swag and game to translate to the next level.

Jordan Dilliard Guard (Coderite Electric)- Dilliard came off the bench and gave the champions a big punch. He scored after driving to the cup while using a feathery touch off the glass. He used his toughness to fight off defenders and battle in the lane.

Andre Johnson Guard (Coderite Electric)- Johnson didn’t score a lot but showed me some promise with his athleticism and potential. He can run the floor like a deer and has some natural quickness that will helped him make an impact. Don’t be surprised if he is a name to remember in a couple of years.

Noah Johnson Guard (PBIC)- Johnson has appeared on our site before and today he did his usual damage. He got into the lane when he wanted and used a short floater or mid-range pull up to convert. He’s the typical tough Trenton point guard that knows how to score.

Samir Robinson Guard (PBIC)- Robinson caught our eye because I like his size and the form on his outside shot. I can see what he wanted to do off the bounce but right now he lacks the strength to finish at times. But beware because he in little time he might surpass his peers.

Ceasar Royster Guard (PBIC)- This guard’s hesitation and misdirection skills were on full display. He used his craftiness to get pass defenders and kiss the rock off the glass. He also has a mean floater and the knack of putting the rock in the bucket.

Holloway Headed Back To Future Phenom Camp!

The Basketball Spotlight Future Phenom Camp Class of 2023 got another boost after national ranked guard Aden Holloway has confirmed his appearance. Holloway starred at the Future Phenom Camp last summer playing in the Top 20 Game, and winning the best playmaker/passer award. After the camp, he shot up to the #3 player in the country according to our national rankings. Holloway spent this season playing with the GC Ballers (2023) and National Champions CP3 All Stars (2022). 

Aden will be joining some of the top players in the country at the Future Phenom Camp. Make sure you register quickly because spots are going fast and a sellout is near. The Future Phenom Camp will take place August 26th and 27th in Boyd, MD.

MSHTV Providing Extra Individual Video Services!

As you know Basketball Spotlight Future Phenom Camp will be loaded with video media coverage. Now Middle School Hoops TV has decided to bring some additional video services. The videos will be created for individual players and will be between 45 seconds and 2 minutes long depending on how many highlights are caught on video. The videos will be cut to music and uploaded to YouTube.

Jaecee "Mayweather" Martin Punches Ticket To Sacred Heart University

Basketball Spotlight is proud to announce Jaecee “Mayweather” Martin will be attending Sacred Heart University. Martin made a name for himself at Basketball Spotlight. The Hartford, Connecticut point guard quarterback CBC to several championships and earned the moniker Mayweather after being regarded as Pound For Pound best floor general in America. During his 8th Year campaign his dominated the Spotlight circuit and took home the Player Of The Year honors. Jaecee remembered us during his press conference, "I would like to thank the Basketball Spotlight tournaments for putting me on the map. Mike Melton is a great guy" said Mayweather. 

Basketball Spotlight would like to congratulate Martin and his family for this huge accomplishment. “Mayweather” will be forever missed by Spotlight and was a huge part of our foundation. Murphy Looking To Raise Stock At Future Phenom Camp!

The state of Connecticut has always been a home for top guards and now Gavin Murphy will be looking to add his name to the list. Murphy has confirmed his presence at the Future Phenom Camp August 26th and 27th in Boyd, MD. He has a serious camp resume around the country after gathering Top 20 honors at the CP3 All Stars Camp and John Lucas Future Stars. Murphy also took home MVP honors at the Gym Rat Tournament in Saratoga.

12U AAU Nationals Top Performers Part 2

The 12U AAU Nationals took place this past week and Basketball Spotlight was in the building. We were able to take in a few games and developed a list of top performers. Here is the first group of top performers. 

12U AAU Nationals Top Performers Part 2 

Chris Lockett Guard (Houston Blue Chips)- This instantly caught my eye as I walked past the court he was playing on. He has size and slick handle with play making ability beyond his years. He was able to get anywhere he wanted on the floor and finished with a bucket or spoon-feeding teammates. He was one of the most impressive guards I saw in Hampton.

Tyler Ringgold Forward (Houston Blue Chips)- In terms of upside this kid probably has one of the highest in the event. The lanky forward can operate well from the foul line in but can also put it on the deck. He’s also a problem on defense as he alters or blocks shots in his area. This is a name you will need to remember in years to come.

Wesley Yates Guard (Houston Blue Chips)- The big guard has a bully game when going to the cup but also possesses the craftiness to cross up defenders. Once he gets into the lane he can use body control and a nice touch to score the ball. He has unique feel for the game when he has the rock.

Davius Loury Forward (Made Men)- Loury is oozing with potential and displayed it at this event. He stretched out for buckets especially in transition. He as the serious size especially once he transfers to the wing which seems soon. Don’t be surprised if he becomes one of the top ranked players in the country.

Rich Barron Guard (Made Men)- Barron plays both guard positions well but will eventually settle in at the point. He showed a scoring prowess in a couple of outings in Hampton by using his strength and ability to get into the lane. He plays the game with the toughness Chicago is known for.

Jordan Ross Guard (Utah Elite)- Ross has some flair and poise that helps him stand out. It’s hard to speed him up or force him into turnovers. Once he gets going he can light up the scoreboard very quickly. He sets the tempo and makes sure everyone is involved. He’s a known name especially on the West Coast we can’t wait to get to the East.

TJ Holmes (J3 Elite)

The 12U AAU Nationals took place this past week and Basketball Spotlight was in the building. We were able to take in a few games and developed a list of top performers. Here is the first group of top performers. 

12U AAU Nationals Top Performers Part 1 

TJ Holmes Guard (J3 Elite)- This lefty is a bucket getter and loves having the rock in crucial moments. He’s capable of hitting the big deep trey or converting at the cup. He demonstrated top body control especially around shot blockers. He was clutch down the stretch against Team Durant.

Rolijah Hardy Guard (J3 Elite)- Hardy has the perfect last name but he’s a tough nosed guard that penetrates the lane and finishes in traffic. He’s difficult to contain because of his strength and low center gravity. He hit some big shots and wanting the rock in crunch time.

Kanaan Carlyle Guard (J3 Elite)- Carlyle didn’t have his best game shooting but I could still see how much game he has. He has good form and the confidence to let shots go from very deep. When he’s handling the rock he demonstrated a great feel for the game. He’s a player we hope to see again soon.

Henry Hurst Forward (J3 Elite)- Hurst plays bigger than his size on the blocks. He hits the boards hard by boxing out and hustling to the rock. He terms of scoring he could hit the face up shot and get buckets along the baseline. He plays extremely hard.

Amani Hansberry Forward (Team Durant)- Hansberry was a load to handle on the blocks and in the paint. He’s a quick jumper with long arms that give him advantages over defenders. Once he got touches he scored at will. He forced double teams and still was able to convert at times.

Ace Valentin Guard (Team Durant)- You remember Valentin dominate at the Future Phenom Camp last season and now looked even better running the point. He has good poise and decision making ability. He carved his way through the defense and even showed he could hit the outside shot. I see he has a bright future in running a team.

Scottie Hubbard Guard (Team Durant)- Hubbard woke up for Team Durant in the second half. He attacked from the wing and hot some difficult shots. He’s good with hitting runners and scoring in transition.
