The 6th Grade Division of the AC Showcase featured some of the top teams in the region. Here’s our first look at our top performers.

Basketball Spotlight AC Showcase 6th Grade Top Performers Part 1

Ahmad Nowell Forward (Fidonce) – Nowell was like Lebron James in the 6th Grade division. He could dribble, pass, score, and defend and was dominating at times that we watched. We saw him make a no look pass that resulted in an And 1 and we also liked the fact that he moved without the ball when one time we saw him make a great cut to the basket and his teammate found him for an easy bucket. He was very hard to contain and he was at his best attacking the rim. He finished with 10 points in the championship and 17 points in their semifinal win against the Gauchos where he lived at the FT line.

Khaafiq Myers Guard (Fidonce) – Myers seems to get better and better every time we see him play. He is a combo guard that can get buckets while always making the right play. He can finish in transition around defenders. He also attacks the basket in the half court using his nice handle. Khaafiq has a nice stroke from the FT line and he can knock down the 3ball. He had 14 points in the Championship and 10 points in the Semifinal.
Ryfee Gordan Forward (Fidonce) – Ryfee is a big body wing that is relentless attacking the rim and rebounding. He gets a lot of rebound put backs and we saw him convert some and ones. He makes him free throws and he knocked down 2 FT’s to ice the championship win. Defensively Gordan blocks a lot of shots. He had 9 points in both games we watched.
Umar Sabree Guard (Fidonce) – Umar is a combo guard that can really score the ball. He is the team’s best three-point shooter as he connecting on three long balls in the championship. He is tough as nails and what we like he is confident in his abilities because when he is off he just keeps coming at you putting pressure on the defense. He tallied 11 points in the championship.
Nigel James Guard (New Heights) – James is a fiery competitor on both ends of the floor. Even though he was smaller in stature he challenged bigger guards defensively and on one play we saw him pick the opposing PG at half court and go the other way for a one handed scoop finish that resulted in an And 1. He has a nice floater and can knock down the 3ball. Nigel is lightning fast with the ball and he makes his New Heights team go. He finished with 19 points and 12 points in the games we watched.
Brenden Hamilton Forward (New Heights) – Hamilton is a strong forward that is all over the floor on defense. He is good at anticipating passes and jumping the passing lanes for steals. On offense he moves well without the ball and is at his best attacking the rim. He had 14 points and 10 points in the games we saw.

Taj Bryant Guard (New Heights) – Bryant is a quick guard that pushes the rock. He is a one man press break that loves to attack the basket but if you play the drive he can knock down the long ball. We also like his court vision and passing ability as we saw him make a really nice one handed bounce pass that resulted in an assist. He likes to get his teammates easy buckets.

Steven Williams Forward (New Heights) – Williams controlled the paint for his squad. He is a space eater so once he gained position in the low block he usually converted with his soft touch around the basket. Steven got a lot of rebound put backs and defensively he made it tough for the opposing team to get to the rim.
