Basketball Spotlight is proud to announce the 3rd Annual King Of The Capital Showdown. This event will bring together the AAU teams in the Trenton NJ Area for a day of battle. This year’s event will take place at St. Raphael’s School on Sunday August 14th.

MDC MR. MEMORIAL DAY 8TH GRADE (ORANGE): BRYCE THOMAS (CASTLE ATHLETICS)

Name: Bryce Thomas 

 AAU Team: Wiz Kids 

Position: Guard 

Class: 2026 

Breakdown: Thomas saved his best shot for last has he made the game winning bucket with two seconds remaining. The bucket gave Wiz Kids their second Spotlight championship of the year. Thomas also has a huge all around game over the Memorial Day Classic weekend.

MDC MR. MEMORIAL DAY 8TH GRADE (BLUE): WILMER DE LA ROSA (CASTLE ATHLETICS)

Name: Wilmer De La Rosa 

AAU Team: Castle Athletics 

Position: Forward 

Class: 2026 

Breakdown: Wilmer carried the torch for the NY squad in the championship. The forward dominated inside, in terms of scoring (20 points), blocking shots and rebounding. I like this kid’s upside and he should make a mark on the NYC high school scene next year.

MDC MR. MEMORIAL DAY 7TH GRADE: MARQUE JOHNSON (GYMWORK ELITE)

Name: Marque Johnson 

AAU Team: Gymwork Elite 

Position: Forward 

Class: 2027 

Breakdown: The versatile forward showed tremendous promise this weekend. He was a walking double/double while at times looking like the best prospect in the building regardless of class. His total impact on both ends of the floor earned him Mr. Memorial Day honors. This kid is oozing with potential.

MDC MR. MEMORIAL DAY 6TH GRADE : COLTON HILLER (TEAM JACKO)

Name: Colton Hiller 

AAU Team: Team Jacko 

Position: Guard 

Class: 2028 

Breakdown: Hiller was crowned Mr. Memorial Day after capping a stellar weekend with a 24 point effort in the semifinals vs SFM Elite and a 22 point outing including 2 treys versus Eastern Shore Aces in the championship. This all around guard can stroke it while also scoring from all three levels.

MDC MR. MEMORIAL DAY 5TH GRADE : THOMAS HAMPTON (NJ SHORE SHOTS)

Name: Thomas Hampton 

Position: Guard 

AAU Team: NJ Shore Shots 

Class: 2029 

Breakdown: Hampton took home Mr. Memorial Day honors after a stellar performance in the finals. The sharpshooting guard tallied 20 points including nailing 2 treys to help the NJ Shore Shots win back to back MDC championships. This kid has serious game.

Basketball Spotlight MDC 8th Grade Orange Division Recap: Wiz Kids Win It At The Buzzer!

Wiz Kids pulled a tough win at the buzzer 46-45 over Team Jacko to win the Basketball Spotlight Memorial Day Classic 8th Grade Orange Division Championship. We congratulate both teams for making it to the finals. This was Wiz Kids second Spotlight title this year.

Basketball Spotlight MDC 4th Grade Championship Recap: NJ Scholars Wins A Thriller!

The NJ Scholars won a thriller 43-41 in overtime against MPO Elite to win the Basketball Spotlight Memorial Day Classic 4th Grade Championship. This was one of the best games of the day. We congratulate both teams for making it to the finals.

Basketball Spotlight Memorial Day Classic Rules

All Games Use Stop Clocks 

4TH GRADE Division- 2 (12 Minutes Halves) 

5TH GRADE Division- 2 (12 Minute Halves) 

6TH GRADE Division- 2 (13 Minute Halves) 

7TH GRADE Division- 2 (14 Minute Halves) 

8TH GRADE Division- 2 (14 Minute Halves) 

Fouls: 

Foul Out- 5 Fouls 

1-1 Bonus- 10 Fouls 

Double Bonus- 13 Fouls 

Overtime: 2 minutes, 1 minute, sudden death (first point wins)

Time Outs: There will two full timeouts a half (4 per game) for each team. No carry over and no 30 seconds time outs. Uniforms: Each Team must have two sets of uniforms (light and dark). 

Mercy Rule: If a team is ahead by 20 points the clock will run and with 2 minutes remaining in the contest the game will be called at that point. The team ahead by 20 will be awarded the victory. 

Birth Certificates: All teams must have birth certificates for each player on their roster in case of a challenge. Each team will be allowed unlimited grade exceptions. Grade Exceptions must have paperwork.  Age Eligibility Cut Off Date Is July 1. Reclass Eligibility Cut Off Sept. 1 Challenges: Must be made before the game and will cost the challenging team $60. If the challenging team is correct their money will be refunded.

J.E.M. MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASSIC CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP: TRENTON TORNADOES GRAB THE BANNER!

Marjon Skillman scored 24 points and Jamar Young added 23 markers as the Trenton Tornadoes defeated TCPA 67-63 to win the J.E.M. MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASSIC Championship. Dylan Napoleon led the wat for TCPA with 24 markers. Congrats to both teams for making the finals and for Trenton Tornadoes for winning the crown.
