Basketball Spotlight 6th Grade Top 10 Presented By AGame Team Apparel

1. Riverside Hawks: The Hawks won the loaded AC Showcase and put their stamp on being the #1 team in the region. They have a legit shot to win the AAU National Championship in Hampton.

2. New Heights: NH jumps to #2 after making a deep run at the AC Showcase. They lost in the finals to Riverside Hawks but a rivalry is developing.

3. Team IZOD: Team IZOD looked decent in Atlantic City and ended up losing in the quarterfinals. They will be back I action at the MDC.

4. B&B Running Rebels: B&B Running Rebels proved they could bang with the big boys while making a final four run during the AC Showcase. They have to be one of the favorites to win the MDC.

5. Boston Spartans: The Spartans once again showed they ready for the stage. As they made it to the Elite 8 of the AC Showcase.

6. Team Durant: This team is fully loaded and should make some serious noise down at the AAU Nationals. We will have a reporter on the scene to check them out.

7. East Coast Elite: I love the way this squad showed up and brought the noise to the AC Showcase. They are a hungry bunch and will be entering the MDC.

8. NC Red Storm: The NC Red Storm not only won the Orange Division Championship but mercy ruled every opponent. They have a loaded crew.

9. T Town Ballers: T Town Ballers keep knocking on the door of the banner by coming runner up in the AC Showcase. They have a shot to win it at the MDC.

10. WE R 1 Lehigh Valley: WE R 1 Lehigh Valley made their Spotlight debut and won the Blue Division. We will also see them at the MDC.

Basketball Spotlight 5th Grade Top 10 Presented By AGame Team Apparel

1. Playtime Panthers: PP wasn’t at the Atlantic City Showcase but will return for the Memorial Day Classic. They have the weapons to become one of the top teams in the country once they reach the AAU Nationals.

2. New World Unlimited: NWU Debuts at #2 after winning the loaded AC Showcase. They will be tough to deal with. I also will be looking to check them out at the AAU Nationals.

3. New Heights: NH made their presence known at the AC Showcase as they made a run to the finals. They are loaded especially at the guard play level. It was a joy to watch them perform.

4. Riverside Hawks: RH made a final four appearance at the AC Showcase. They are always a threat to win any event.

5. Team IZOD: Team IZOD looked good in Atlantic City as they defeated some good teams. They lost in the final four to eventual champion New World.

6. Team Durant: TD will be a team to reckon with when it comes to the AAU Nationals. They have some talented youngsters.

7. NYC Gauchos: The NYC Gauchos (Croft) made a quarterfinal run at the AC Showcase. I like the way they approach the game and play a full court style.

8. Milbank: The Flyers once again proved they could hang with the big boys by making it to the quarterfinals. They are always known for leaving everything on the court.

9. FCP Hoops: This Mercer County squad made their Spotlight debut and made it to the quarterfinals of the AC Showcase. I was greatly impressed with their team. They will be at the MDC.

10. Team Delaware: Team Delaware won the Blue Division crown and will have a chance to move up during the MDC. They have some serious talent.

Basketball Spotlight Alum Tyger Campbell has made a commitment to DePaul University. Campbell played in the Basketball Spotlight Atlantic City Classic with the loaded We All Can Go All Stars and ran the point in the historic showdown with Team IZOD. 

Campbell has continued his success on the high school level while quarterbacking La Lumiere School to a USA Today and Dicks Nation and Championship. Basketball Spotlight would like to congratulate Campbell and his family on their commitment and wish them the best of luck in the future. Check out his 7th Grade Highlights from the AC Showcase.

What’s going on Basketball World?

Welcome to another week of my Bballspotlight Diary Entry. This week was very bad preparation for the Fab Frosh Camp, but I still managed to get the job done. 

Monday, I woke up drained from the weekend. But I still managed to keep myself going for the big weekend. After school, I figured I didn’t have sports practice, so I had lots of time in the gym. I got up about 500 shots from each side using the trash can as a defender. This made me use my handle and quickness, but I felt a slight pain in my knees. I fought through it and still worked as hard as I could. Next, I headed to my dorm to take a shower, go to dinner and study hall for the night. But I had to prepare for testing for the next three days!

8th Grader Patterson Picking Up College Offers!

Trey Patterson (Team RIO National)

Trey Patterson is regarded by many as the Top 8th Grader in the country. He's currently running with Team RIO National on the Under Armor 16U circuit. During his travels he has picked up college offers from Rutgers and Wake Forest Universities. Standing 6'8 and playing the wing, he looks to have a dynamic future ahead of him. Stay tuned as we bring you more from Trey Patterson as the season progresses.

"The Lion" On The HUNT IN NIKE EYBL!

Zion "The Lion" Harmon

After carrying his high school team to a Kentucky State title 8th Grader Zion Harmon has not let up on the Nike EYBL 17U circuit. Harmon put in serious work this past weekend in Indianapolis playing for Boo Williams. Zion leads his team in assists per game through two events so far and is second in scoring with 12.8 ppg. Remember this kid is only an 8th Grader.

In The Spotlight: Bryson Brown (Team IZOD)

Name: Bryson Brown 

AAU Team: Team IZOD 

Position: Point Guard 

Class: 2025 

Breakdown: Brown was one of the best pure athletes in this event. He guards the rock for 94 feet and isn’t afraid to sacrifice his body for the squad. The ultra-quick guard also attacks the cup with a relentless attitude. He’s the heart and soul of this squad and the fed of his adrenalin. He’s definitely a player that leaves it all on the floor.

In The Spotlight: Thomas Sorber (T Town Ballers)

Name: Thomas Sorber 

AAU Team: T Town Ballers 

Position: Forward 

Class: 2025 

Breakdown: Sorber presented himself as one of the top big forwards at this event. The Capital City native understands how to establish position and make moves towards the basket. He started the tournament with a spark of 16 markers in a loss to Team IZOD. We didn’t see his older brother Peter until 8th Grade but we should get a chance to watch Thomas develop right in front of our eyes. Check for him at the Memorial Day Classic.

In The Spotlight: Isaiah Brown (Team IZOD) Feat: Hit Song "Ball On Em"

Name: Isaiah Brown 

AAU Team: Team IZOD 

Position: Point Guard 

Class: 2025 

Breakdown: Brown has a lot of substance to his game. He can boogie with the best of them when getting in the lane. If you need scoring or play making Brown can be your guy. His skill set is beyond his years He scored the rock well averaging double figures and nailing some deep treys. He also knocked down a ton of free throws over the weekend. Brown also has a future in the music business check out his song below.

In The Spotlight: Travis UpChurch (New Heights)

Name: Travis UpChurch 

AAU Team: New Heights 

Class: 2025 

Position: Combo Guard 

Breakdown: UpChurch national rep was on the line and he didn’t disappoint. He’s been known to score in the past but this weekend he also displayed his play making ability and willingness to bang the glass. He has a special feel for the game combined with size and a skill set. He truly can dominate a game without scoring the rock.

In The Spotlight: Nigel James (New Heights)

Name: Nigel James 

AAU Team: New Heights 

Class: 2025 

Position: Combo Guard 

Breakdown: James was unconscious in the finals. He had the ratchet going from deep and showed his willingness to score in transition. He broke the ankles of defenders, used the floater and demonstrated superb body control. He tallied 26 points in the finals loss. He proved to be a special young talent. Check out his highlights in a tournament earlier in the year.

How’s the Basketball World doing?

Welcome back to another week of my Basketball Spotlight diary entry.

Monday I got back home at about 4 in the morning due to the long bus ride back home from Virginia. My body was very sore, and I was more tired than ever. As I went to sleep and woke back up, I got to chill in Boston and rest my body for the day. With no workouts or any school work need to be due, I was good for the day.

In The Spotlight: Mike "Deuce" Jones (FCP Hoops)

Name: Mike “Deuce” Jones 

AAU Team: FCP Hoops Elite 

Position: Point Guard 

Class: 2025 

 Breakdown: “Deuce” made his Spotlight debut at the AC Showcase and didn’t back down from the Bright lights. He began the weekend with a 12 point outing versus national power Riverside Hawks and then erupted for 26 markers in a win versus Bingo All Stars. The youngster showed he could score in transition, from deep and make his way to the charity stripe. We have our eye out for this kid. He’s on the Spotlight radar.

In The Spotlight: Nykolas Lewis (New World)

Name: Nykolas Lewis 

 AAU Team: New World 

Class: 2025 

Position: Combo Guard 

Breakdown: Lewis was awesome at the Atlantic City Showcase. The kid displayed the total offensive package. He scored it was ease from all three levels and was able to get rid of defenders off the bounce. He has a mean crossover dribble and can finish with either hand. He has the flair for the dramatic as he hit the game winner to help New World take home the title.

The Basketball Spotlight 6th Grade Division brought out the best talent in the region. Here’s our first look at the Top Performers from this age group. 

Basketball Spotlight AC Showcase 6th Grade Top Performers Part 2 

Christian Kirkland Forward (B&B Running Rebels) – Christian probably was the best prospect in the 6th grade division. He has elite size and it looks like he has room to grow. He is a long lefty big man that has a nice touch from the elbow and short corner. He usually works from the high post and he is a good passer out of the post. Kirkland blocks everything on the defensive end without fouling.

Jacob Beccles Guard (B&B Running Rebels) – Beccles is a long guard that plays on the wing and is at his best when he is attacking the basket. He has a decent handle that allows him to be the secondary ball handler on the team and when he grabs a rebound he can just push the ball and lead the break. Defensively he can guard all three perimeter positions and his versatility is an asset for the Rebels on both ends of the floor.

Nathan Rosario Forward (B&B Running Rebels) – Rosario is one of those players that every coach wants on their team. He has a high motor and plays very hard crashing the boards and diving on the floor for loose balls. He rebounds at a high level inside or outside of his area and he can finish around the basket.

Isaiah Wright Forward (SE Starz) – Wright is a big man with a strong body. If he catches the ball in the low post it is pretty much an automatic bucket. If he catches it a little bit away from the block he can attack with a hard power dribble and finish through contact. Isaiah has a mean streak and you don’t want to get in his way when he is aggressively attacking the basket. He knows how to clear out space in the lane in order to receive the post entry pass. He finished with 11 points in the game we watched.

Justin Bonsu Guard (East Coast Elite) – Bonsu is a combo guard with nice size. He is the primary scorer on his team and he can knock down the 3 ball. He also can move over to the point and be the primary facilitator on the floor. Defensively he can guard either back court position. Justin finished with 22 points including 3 trey balls in the game we watched.

Akil Watson Forward (East Coast Elite) – Akil is a long wing that is a nice looking prospect. He has an overall nice stroke on his jumper and he knocks his free throws down. He is a match up problem on both ends of the floor. Watson finished with 13 points in the game we watched.

Korbyn Samuels Forward (East Coast Elite) – Samuels is a prospect that hasn’t even scratched the surface of his potential. Right now he is all arms and legs and is more effective on defense than offense. He moves really well so he can guard perimeter players. Offensively he is a wing forward that in the future he looks like he will be a match up problem as he continues to develop.

In The Spotlight: Ben Hurd (Expressions Elite)

Name: Ben Hurd 

AAU Team: Expressions Elite 

Class: 2021 

Position: Point Guard 

Breakdown: Hurd ran the point for the Expressions Elite and did a solid job in the controls. He directed traffic while dropping dimes but also was able to get into the scoring column himself while averaging double figures. He was solid all around the board.

Spotlight Alum Washington Selects Robert Morris!

Leondre Washington

Basketball Spotlight Alum Leondre Washington has decided to take his talent to Robert Morris University. Washington begun his Spotlight career with the Riverside Hawks before having stops with legendary Team Battle. Team Scan and finally NJ Playaz. 

He went on to high school to play with Teaneck and Roselle Catholic while helping the Teaneck Hilltoppers win the NJ Group 3 State Championship. Basketball Spotlight would like to congratulate Leondre and his family on their commitment to Robert Morris and wish him luck in the future.

The Basketball Spotlight 6th Grade Division brought out the best talent in the region. Here’s our first look at the Top Performers from this age group.

Jomani Wright Guard (Riverside Hawks) – Wright might have been the best pound for pound player in the entire event. He plays hard on both ends of the floor. On the offensive end floor you can compare this pint size lefty guard to Isaiah Thomas. Jo Jo can get buckets in a variety of ways either attacking the basket and hitting his floater or stroking a 3ball from distance. He exploded for 25 points in the championship against New Heights.

In The Spotlight: Chandler Wilson (Expressions Elite)

Name: Chandler Wilson 

AAU Team: Expressions Elite 

Class: 2022 

Position: Shooting Guard 

Breakdown: Wilson is a big shooting guard that can also handle the point guard duties. His outside shot is one of his biggest weapons as he was able to drain treys from all around the floor. I also like his separation off the bounce and finishing ability. He caught our eye and commanded our attention in Atlantic City.

In The Spotlight: Rasheen Caulk (We R 1)

Name: Rasheen Caulk Jr 

AAU Team: WE R 1 (Blue) 

Class: 2021 

Position: Shooting Guard 

Breakdown: We R 1 (Blue) won the title and Caulk carried the way in the finals. The smooth shooting wing scored the rock and showed he could make a living at the charity stripe. He finished with 22 markers and 10 came from the free throw line. You can see his game developing right in front of our eyes. His confidence continues to grow in each outing.
