Philly Triple Threat Wins Title

The Hoop Group Fall Jr. Jam Fest took place this past weekend and Basketball Spotlight was in the building. Here’s our look at the 8th Grade Division and its top performers. 

Hoop Group Jam Fest Top Performers

Jamil Riggins Forward (Philly Triple Threat)
Riggins should have been awarded MVP honors with his performance this weekend. He has grown an inch or two and appears to be stronger. These improved physical attributes have helped his game especially when finishing the rock. Now when he gets to the cup he has more balance and able to finish through contact. In transition he’s one of the quickest around and now plays above the rim. This kid has taken great strides in his game. Look for him to make a leap when our mid-season rankings drop.

Donte Scott Forward (Philly Triple Threat)
Scott also made his debut for PTT and still looks like one of the top prospects in the region. He loves the perimeter but wasn’t afraid to show a more physical presence near the hole. He’s becoming a serious matchup problem for opposing forwards because of his quickness with the ball. This kid is nowhere near his ceiling.

Shermick Lofton Forward (Philly Triple Threat)
Lofton completes PTT 3 headed monster on the blocks. He has a bully type game when attacking the rim. I was a little intrigued on how well he can handle the rock. He has a Jamal Mashburn type approach. He’s very physical and loves throwing his body around.

Zach Lezanic Guard (Philly Triple Threat)
Lezanic played a vital role in their march to the championship. He can control the tempo a little and bury the outside shot. The DMV squad applied some intense pressure but Lezanic stood tall through it all and made plays.

Justin Galea Guard (Philly Triple Threat) 
Galea finally has his chance to run the show and give us a taste of his goods. He’s very smooth when handling the pill while being able to score or set up teammates. He has grown a little since I watched him in the summer and should have a coming out party this season. 

Jay Heath Guard (Slam City Elite)
Heath was definitely an oversight on our rankings and will be crashing through in April. The wiry wing guard is truly athletic and wired to score. Once the rock touches his hands he goes directly into attack mode. He does a lot of his damage driving along the baseline. 

Jalen Abbott Guard (Slam City Elite)
Abbott was great pickup for the DMV squad. He’s a legit two guard with good size and height on his outside shot. His skill level is one of the best I seen over the weekend. I also think he has some great upside. 

Malik Anderson Guard (Slam City Elite)
Anderson is a highly flying guard that’s plays with a lot of energy. He’s able to finish well in the lane and at the tin. He’s also a hard worker on the defensive end. He does need to work on controlling his emotions a little on the floor.

Basketball Spotlight Feature: Khalif Is Ready To Battle!

Tyus Battle is one of the most recruited players in high school basketball and no one knows this better than his little brother Khalif. The younger Battle has been living in the shadow of Tyus since he first stepped on the basketball court. But instead of sulking Khalif went into the gym and worked on his game and after watching him this weekend at the Hoop Group Fall Jam Fest he has improved immensely. Battle has a fluid handle, good size (6'2), sweet stroke and unique passing ability. 

His father Gary Battle is known top trainer and one of the most successful AAU coaches in the country agrees with my assessment. “His best attributes are his high skill set, being able to score from all three levels and create his own shot off the dribble. His confidence is flowing right now and you can see it in his game” said Battle. 

Coach Battle has been doing this for years and since he is the person that developed Kid Mamba he also knows that Khalif has some things to work on. “I see him having to improve his motor and playing the game at a faster pace. He also has to continue to work on his skills and get more actual time playing on the floor” Battle said. 

After watching Khalif this past weekend I have to say that the comparisons to Tyus will increase has he makes his moves to the forefront of the basketball scene. Gary says he sees the similarities and differences between his two sons. "At his age Khalif is similar to Tyus in terms of skill set but appears to be a more natural scorer. Tyus had more talent and more game experience up to this stage. I think Khalif will make a move in the next few years and establish his own name” he finished. 

Basketball Spotlight will continue to watch Khalif’s development and will be including him when our Class of 2019 rankings are updated.

Diary Of A Baller: Marquise Walker (Chicago, IL) Entry #5

Marquise Walker In Kentucky 

It's Marquise Walker with my weekly diary. 

Monday - I woke up thinking about NBA 2K15. In the morning I worked out like I am used to when I lived in Chicago. 100 push ups, 100 sit ups then my jumping workout and then running for 10 minutes listening to Childish Gambino 3005. I missed my home and my daily workout. I was surprised to be so happy to be home over fall break. My little sisters came home and I took care of them and played with them, at about 11:30 we went to get 2K15 on PS4. If you have PS4, add me at Y2KOZI. I played my dad first then I stayed up all night playing it by myself. That game is so addicting. 

Tuesday - I woke up sleepy from last night but I still did my workout. I then went and got a haircut. I played my player on 2K15 all day and then I played with my mom and sisters a lot making jokes on each other and having fun rapping. 

Wednesday - I woke up and did my workout and went back to sleep I was very sleepy. I went up to my old school Stevenson to say hi to everyone. Everyone really missed me, I was surprised. They were saying class was boring without me and how I am supposed to be fun. The teachers even missed me and I was able to get a few words with my old coach. We been through a lot in the past and I got him a lot of trophies. I went back home and played 2K15 with my broker Savion then went to sleep. 

Thursday - I woke up and did my morning workout but I ran an extra 3 minutes. I went back up to my old school and shot around for a little bit with my brother, and Pattreon and James who are my ex-teammates. I won a bet with my teacher because he didn't believe I was moving and I got some Jimmy Johns. Got back home and played more 2K with my brother. My dad had a friend in town from college so he cooked tonight. He cooked baked chicken, greens and his famous homemade mac and cheese. His mac and cheese is the best. 

Friday - I woke up, did my workout and went with my uncle, Handy, to go play at a gym with the grownups. My cousin Pierre was there. He plays overseas. He was very tough competition but he made me better. Afterwards, I chilled with my uncle Handy and cousin Dionte. When I got home I stayed up all night playing 2K. 

Saturday - I woke up late from playing 2K all night, but I still did my workout. In the afternoon I went with my family to my little cousin London birthday party. She turned 4. They had a lot of good food and treats, and a lot of games for the kids to play. The party was in a gym so I got to fool around a lil bit on the court. 

Sunday - I came back to Kentucky as we start school on Monday for the 2nd nine weeks. My mother came with me, it was fun, amazing. We flew into Louisville and drove to Bowling Green We ate cracker Barrel for lunch. My mom got to see Bowling Green for the first time and she went to the mall. In the evening I went to open gym and did really well. We start practice this week to get ready for the regular season.

The fans have spoken and said Wendell Moore of the CP3 All Stars is the #1 8th Grade Player in the country. The top 4 vote getters on our poll were Wendell Moore with 374, Balsa Kopriva with 210, Tyger Campbell with 127 and Keion Brooks with 123. Basketball Spotlight would like congratulate Moore on winning the fan poll. Will he be #1 on our list? We will see when our Class of 2019 rankings are released in a few hours.

Basketball Spotlight Exclusive: WACG All Stars Coach Carlos Speaks Out!

Five years ago We All Can All Stars stepped into the AAU world and took it by storm by winning the 5th Grade AAU National Championship. Since then the Nashville, Tennessee based program has collected 5 National titles (3 boys and 2 girls), appeared in 23 final fours and played in 6 national championship games. You cannot mention WACG All Stars without talking about their charismatic coach Carlos. We sat down with the head man for an exclusive one on one. 

One On One Feat: Coach Carlos (WACG All Stars) 

BS: Why was WACG All Stars started? 
CC: Well Coach I came from Houston and moved to Tennessee. I wanted to go somewhere that wasn’t known for basketball and develop a national program. See our concept is that We All Can Go 1 thru 10. Most programs use the daddy ball concept but not WACG. We will always put the best players on the floor. 

BS: What are some of the biggest misconceptions about your program? 
CC: That I’m this street guy that goes out and brings in thuggish type kids. That’s the farthest thing from the true coach. I have 62 players in my program and 61 of them attend private school. The only player that’s in public school is my son Jwan Carpenter. WACG loves helping kids see there’s more to life than their own neighborhood. Coach we give them a chance to see the world. That’s something they will never forget. We know that most of these players have very little chance of being professional players so we just try our best to put them in position to get a college scholarship. 

BS: How do you feel about some of the new teams popping up such as Slam City Elite and other teams in the country? 
CC: Coach some of these teams don’t have a resume. How are you going to call out WACG when you haven’t done anything yet. Go out and win some titles then talk to me. The only team I respect in the country is Team IZOD (Supreme Team). They are the only squad to say they beat me more than once and Coach Reggie Carter always has them boys prepared and ready to go. 

BS: Speaking of Team IZOD, how was your experience when you guys matched up at the Basketball Spotlight Atlantic City Showcase? 
CC: Coach I’m going to be real, I’ve coached in over 600 games and numerous national championship games but that was by far the best game I ever been a part of coach. The teams were pumped and the atmosphere was tremendous. You set a stage that has been unmatched. It was the best tournament I ever played in period. 

BS: How is it coaching a possible future NBA draft pick in Marvin Bagley? 
CC: Coach, Marvin was the best talent I ever had but what made it special was seeing him get better every year. People don’t understand how hard this kid works and loves the game of basketball. It’s been a blessing and total joy having him a part of the WACG All Stars family. 

BS: How does this kid Ben Todd compare to Marvin? 
CC: Coach, as a 7th grader Benn is not as explosive or athletic as Marvin but he could be more skilled. This kid is already 6’10 with a good skill set. It’s scary with the right amount of work how good he could be. He has to be considered the #1 player in the country for his class. 

BS: What are your predictions for this season? 
CC: Coach our program is so deep I know we will win the AAU National Championship for grades 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th. A clean sweep Coach. Don’t forget WE DEM BOYS Coach.

Basketball Spotlight Feature: Introducing Devonte Combs!

Devonte Combs 

As we last reported Paul Suber the basketball guru from the Big Apple had relocated to the West Coast and joined the I 10 Celtics as the head coach. Since arriving Suber has helped the Celtics turn this program into a national power. Now his latest addition should keep things rolling in the right direction. Introducing 6’8 and 220 lbs Devonte Combs.

Suber loves the big 8th Grader and isn’t afraid to state his attributes “He has grown man strength inside, good free throw shooter and decent footwork on the box”. 

Paul enjoys showing his players love but also knows that Combs is a work in progress, “He needs to improve his conditioning, footwork and better balance once he receives the rock” he finished. 

If Combs is willing to listen and put in the work Suber believes he could be a special talent down the road. “His grandfather is 7’1 and he’s projected to be a 7 footer. Right now I would say he reminds me of a young Jared Sullinger but if he projects he could be the next Karl Towns." 

Basketball Spotlight will get a good look at Combs as he travels to the East Coast with the I 10 Celtics for the Tip Off Classic. We will keep you updated with his progress.

MM: Doug we are a few weeks from releasing our first team rankings and we will consider both Oakland Soldiers and WACG All Stars. Slam City Elite is new to the scene but does enter this season with a wealth of experience. But I also know that Oakland Soldiers and WACG have also retooled. So we will let you know in a few weeks.

Charles From Chicago, IL Wrote: Mike I recently checked out your Class of 2018 National Player Rankings and noticed there’s no Jordan McCabe. What is this? 

MM: Well Charles ranking players is a tough job and sometimes you are bound to have an oversight or forget to add a player which was the case with McCabe. Next time we will try to do a better job of scanning through everyone.

Terrence From Upper Marlboro, MD Wrote: Mike with the season coming soon who’s the best 8th Grade team out there? 

MM: Well Terence it’s difficult to put anyone ahead of the national champs CP3 All Stars on the national level. I hear some rumblings coming from the Ohio area and other teams making moves. Regionally DC Premier seems to have retooled while Team Takeover, Team Rio and The Rens continue to be dangerous.

Joseph From Wilmington DE Wrote: Mike a number of players in the Class of 2020 have reclassified which should effect the rankings. Who do you have as the best player? 

MM: Joseph that’s a tough question because it’s so much talent in that class. You have Shemar Morrow that has put in a tremendous body of work. Ben Todd is 6’10 and full of potential while Terrence Williams should be virtually unstoppable on this level. I’m glad I have two weeks to think about this.

Weekend Recap: "The Terror Squad" Invades The Big Apple!

TTS Went 4-0 In NYC

Slam City Elite traveled to the Big Apple to lace their shoes up for the first time in a real game this season. The Tri State Classic League is a well known NYC Summer League where many pros and college players compete in the NYC street ball atmosphere where there is music blasting, a “HYPE” man is on the mic, ruckus crowds fill the stands, and celebrity coaches like Fat Joe enter their team in hopes to earn bragging rights by winning the chip. Tri State Classic organizer Mousey brought the same concept to the Middle School AAU teams and organized a Back to School League. Slam City Elite (Pre-season #1) was invited and accepted. They were pitted against the Top 4 teams in NYC over Saturday and Sunday in the same environment you see at Rucker Park but rather inside where the whole atmosphere was a lot louder than on the NYC Playground courts. The game of the weekend turned out to be an Instant Classic. 

Slam City Elite vs. NY Gauchos 
This game turned out to be the game of the weekend as many expected. This was the Terror Squad’s first of two games on Sunday. The Gauchos is one of the most storied AAU programs in the country and coming off a #5 AAU Nationals finish was a perfect test for The Terror Squad to see if they are truly one of the favorites to win it all this year. The Gauchos had a big time home court advantage but in the end Slam City Elite was victorious winning 79-72 in a game they controlled the whole time being up by as many as 12 points in the first half and 9 points in the second half. Terrance Williams had a career game scoring 38 points and grabbing 21 rebounds. Jordan Toles added 14 points and 9 boards and Tyler Brelsford had 10 points and 8 assists. Isaiah Todd chipped in with 11 rebounds. 

Slam City Elite vs. New Heights 
New Heights who has become a top Under Armour program in the country was The Terror Squad’s first game on Saturday. Being their first game of the season they were amped up to play and came out rolling. Tyler Brelsford hit three 3pointers in the first half one being at the buzzer taking a 13 point lead into halftime and they never looked back winning 66-47. Terrance Williams had 20 points and 7 rebounds. Jordan Toles finished with a double-double 12 points and 13 rebounds. Tyler Brelsford tallied 11 points and 5 assists. Isaiah Todd contributed 9 rebounds and Cameron Byers and Ryan Conway each had 7 points apiece. 

Slam City Elite vs. PSA Cardinals (formerly Team Scan) 
Having to play back to back, the second game on Saturday was a potential trap game for The Terror Squad as it took them all 32 minutes to pull out a 51-50 victory. PSA controlled most of the game after they took the lead late in the first half. Ryan Conway was the hero as he hit a trey ball down 2 to put Slam City Elite up by one with under a minute to go. Slam City had a bad shooting day from the field but was able to fight through adversity which championship teams will need to face throughout their season if they want to have any chance to win the NYBL and AAU National Championship. Terrance Williams had another stellar performance tallying 21 points and 18 rebounds. Jordan Toles had 7 points that included two electrifying dunks. Ryan Conway chipped in with 6 points. 

Slam City Elite vs. Milbank 
This was the last game on Sunday and after an emotional win over the Gauchos The Terror Squad wanted to go 4-0 and head down I-95 to get ready for next weekend’s Hoop Group Fall Jam Fest. They did just that winning 50-34. Isaiah Todd led the way with a double-double 10 points and 11 rebounds. Cameron Byers added 10 points and 6 boards. Terrance Williams netted 10 points.

Hello, 

It’s Marquise Walker and here’s my weekly diary. 

Monday - I'm still in Kentucky at South Warren Middle School. I went to school and right after I worked out with the team. We lifted weights, which I don't do and ran. Our running is very hard because we go on the track and run 400' and 100's. It’s tough but it keeps my conditioning up. 

Tuesday - I was sick when I woke up and I made it to school late. It was lunchtime when I got there. I couldn't even eat I felt so bad. I still mustered up the energy to work out with the team after school. But when I got home I did my homework and fell asleep early. 

Wednesday - I feel much better today and made it to school on time. After school I went to the gym for workouts with the team but they were cancelled. I still got some shots up in the empty gym and worked on my game. 

Thursday - I went to school today and we had final exams for our quarter. I've only been in school two weeks but my lowest score was an 82% so I did pretty good on my exams. Today was the last day of conditioning for the basketball team. We had to run 20 100's. We worked hard and it was tough but we got it done. I've never did so much running in my life. 

Friday - Today was the last day of school for fall break. Afterschool the varsity team scrimmaged and I played. We had a lot of fun. We have some really good players on our team. Playing for high school is a lot tougher because the players are faster and you can get dunked on. I can't get away with a lot of dribbling and showboating so I'm learning to play simple basketball and that's what coach has been telling me to do. I fly home to Chicago today to see my family. I'm home in Chicago for a week. When I got home I saw the newspaper in Chicago and I was in it. My dad didn't even tell me but he told everybody else. He had like 100 papers in the house. He told me he didn't tell me because he doesn't want me get caught up reading about myself but just keep making the news and not reading it about myself. 

Saturday - Today I hung out with my family. My younger sister and brother had cross-fit so I went with them to the park district. We talked a lot about Kentucky and how it was different from Chicago. I watched my baby sisters who are 4 and 1 while my mom and dad went to the movies. Morghan and Paige are a handful. They tear up everything. The 1 year old Paige lost my dads car keys. When my mom and dad got home I went to the movies with my friends. 

Sunday - I went to church today. I went early and was in the bible study group. Service was good and I always thank God for my gift to play basketball. I hung with my family the rest of the day. We watched football and my dad's friends all came over and they wished me well.

Wendell Moore Catches A Body! (By Ty Kish Middle School Hoops)

Wendell Moore has been on the national radar for some time now, and he’s often mentioned as one of the top players in the Class of 2019. In a middle school basketball culture where reclassification is becoming the norm, Wendell Moore is a true throwback. Having just turned 13, the big man from North Carolina is one of the youngest players in his class. Wendell’s style of play is more workhorse than showboat and his CP3 Team were AAU National Champion’s this June. As his career continues it’s hard to believe that there won’t be a lot of big time dunks, but for now lets enjoy this young man’s first poster dunk.

Class Of 2019 Super 7 

Wendell Moore Forward (North Carolina) 
Case: We have to start with the reigning #1 player. The versatile forward led his team to another national championship while impacting the game greatly. This past season he showed true growth in his game while even playing the point guard position. When he’s on his game he’s one of the best stat stuffers in America. 

Jared Jones Forward (Florida) 
Case: Standing 6’8 with fluid motion makes Jones one of the most intriguing prospects in America. He puts the rock on the floor, makes moves facing the basket, has a decent post game and runs the floor like gazelle. When you throw in a tremendous upside you might have the number #1 player in the land. 

Rowan Barrett Guard (Canada) 
Case: Can an international player top our list? If so then Barrett would be the choice. When I watched him in DC last season he reminded me of a young Tracy McGrady. He has the size and moves of a certified stud and the live legs that complete the package. He looks to be the next in line of the Canadian invasion. 

Tyger Campbell Guard (Iowa) 
Case: It’s rare for a guard to be #1 in America but Campbell is not a regular player. He’s by far the most exciting 7th guard in the United States. Tyger has been dazzling crowds and killing opponents throughout the country. He even gave the East Coast a taste as he put on a show at the Basketball Spotlight AC Showcase. 

Balsa Kopriva Forward (Florida) 
Case: After being a little secret in 6th Grade Balsa burst unto the national scene last season. The 6’10 forward has already drawn comparisons to Dirk Nowitzki and a proven commodity on the floor. He’s very efficient on the post and can score from all three levels. He doesn’t have to grow another inch to be a sought after prospect. 

Chandler Lawson Forward (Tennessee) 
Case: Size, game and pedigree makes this youngster a very good looking prospect. His perimeter skills are developing and he’s beginning to understand how good he really his. I look for him to have a serious breakout season and try to separate himself from the pack. His two older brothers were also highly touted and will attend the University Of Memphis. 

Keion Brooks Guard (Indiana) 
Case: Brooks play as of late lets us throw his hat in the ring. He seems to get longer and more confident each time he steps on the floor. His length is a huge plus as he looks down on most defenders while either passing or scoring. If he continues to grow he has a chance to a Jayson Tatum type down the road.

Unique Mclean has to go down as one of the best dunkers in Basketball Spotlight history. This video takes us back to his action during the Tip Off Classic. McLean’s all-around game helped Team Scan take home the title on their way to the Grand Finale Championship. The Tip Off Classic takes place December 6th and 7th in Neptune, NJ. The AAU season is almost upon us and it’s a lot going on in the world of middle school basketball. In this segment of Word on the Street we will take a look at some of the interesting happenings around the country. As we know in AAU nothing is guaranteed but our information is obtained for very reliable sources.

WACG All Stars Create 3 Headed Monster! 

They say guards win games and We All Go All Stars took this statement literally as they have put together the top 8th grade backcourt in America. Mainstay Tyger Campbell is back but the Tennessee squad has allegedly added super guards Marquise Walker and Jovan Blackshear. All three guards are rated high nationally on just about every list. Thus Walker’s move from Chicago to Kentucky for this coming school year makes a lot more sense.

Talley Jumps Into Class of 2019 

Word from California is that 6’6 power forward Walter Talley has reclassified into the Class of 2019 and will hoop with the I 10 Celtics. This move his big for the West Coast squad because it’s gives them a legitimate forward with a wealth of experience. Coach Paul Suber continues to have his pipeline reaching from the Empire State. I can't wait to see them when they hit the Spotlight circuit.

Pierre Joins National Champs! 

The word out of North Carolina is that high scoring combo guard Myles Pierre has left the Charlotte Rivals and and has joined CP3 All Stars. The terrific trio of the Langley Twins and Mike Green will also the highest ranked guard in Carolina to help with the scoring power. This move will help CP3 try to be the first team to 3-peat since the Mickey Mitchell led Texas Titans.

DC Premier Trying To Takeover The DMV! 

DC Premier has loaded up their 2019 group with some talented players. The Mitchell twins are now joined Christian Depollar, and Marvin Price. They definitely have one of the longest frontlines in the country and should be the favorite for the DMV AAU crown.

Diary Of A Baller: Marquise Walker (Chicago, IL) Entry #3

Marquise and His Teammates

Wassup its Marquise Walker with my diary. 

On Monday I got to Kentucky and I went to the school and meet with Coach Breeze. He is my high school coach for South Warren HS. He introduced me into the school, and showed my dad and I what we had to do to get into the school. I had to get two shots (vaccinations) which did not hurt at all before being able to start school because each state is different. After that it was open gym with the high school players and I did good. I believe I will be doing great this season for the team and fit in nicely with the other players. Then I went to the Waffle House and went to bed. 

The next day was my first day of school at South Warren Middle School. I was really nervous but if I be myself I'll be fine. Everyone at the school were really nice and they are really friendly. I love the way they just took me in and I got with the program so easy. Then after school we had practice and we worked hard. We focus a lot on defense right now. Practice this time of year isn't mandatory but all of our players come that aren't playing other sports. Official practice doesn't start until October 15th. The next day was the same as yesterday but I went to the football game that night which was really fun. 

On Thursday I went to school, and after school we conditioned which was hard and I messed up my shin which is minor. Later that night I went to the high school soccer game which was packed. It was fun hanging out with the varsity and some of my classmates. I had a good time. 

Then on Friday I went to the feast which was fun. This was a fall festival at the elementary school. I went through the haunted house with my friends and we loved it. I even saw some of my friends trying to scare me. 

On Saturday one of my teammates, Day Day Gumm and I went to Western Kentucky to scrimmage against the college players. We did good but it was hard adjusting to the game. They were way bigger and stronger than I or Day Day was. Even though they were 6-8 years older than me I still scored and dropped dimes and handled the ball very well. 

Afterwards we went outside and chilled for a little bit then a couple more teammates came over, Jackson and Cam and we hung out with them. Mike showed up and he let me drive his car in the subdivision, I was so nervous. I showed him I can drive pretty well for my age and I did really good. Sunday I went to Church and gave God a big Thank you for everything he has been doing for me lately. I would not be here if it wasn’t for him. Then I got home chilled for a while and got ready for our open gym. I did pretty well and got the ball to my teammates. Then I got home talked to my dad then my mom and did this diary and went to sleep...............

World Alert Code Red: "The Terror Squad" Is Coming!

"Terror Squad" Preseason #1 7th Grade Team In America

In the past few years the Basketball Spotlight Road To The Grand Finale circuit has produced some of the top teams in the country. In 2011 Team Scan AKA “72 Dolphins” and DC Assault AKA “The MOBB” both flexed their muscles while making final four runs. In 2012 Team IZOD AKA “Supreme Team” was introduced to the world and showed pure dominance for two seasons by making consecutive final four runs and national championship game appearances. This past season Team Takeover AKA TTO 7th Grade team was impressive and made a final four run. But our latest edition might top all of these squads. 

Hailing from the DMV area we would like to introduce Slam City Elite AKA “The Terror Squad”. Yes we feel the name fits this squad because their loaded roster will send chills down your spine. They have some of the top players in the country at every position and should be the overall favorite for the Spotlight Grand Finale crown and the AAU 7th Grade National Championship. No team in Spotlight history has been able to travel our circuit without any loses. But “The Terror Squad” seems to be up for the task. Their skipper Mr. Francis feels they are ready, “One of our goals is not to only win the Grand Finale but get through the Spotlight circuit undefeated. We love making history” he finished. 

Meet The Players

Terrence Williams Forward: 
Williams jumps into the Class of 2020 as one of the best players walking. His play last season earned him Basketball Spotlight Most Outstanding Player for the Class of 2019. His combined power and skill might be unmatched on this level. He should be a double/double machine.

Tyler Brelsford Guard: 
Another returnee from the TTO final four run last season. Brelsford is a proven winner but his hand has never been this loaded. This kid knows the game and loves the share the rock. On this squad he has options galore so his assist per game are sure to go up.

Jordan Toles Guard: 
Last season Toles was virtually a one man army. Now with the Terror Squad he can play to his strengths which include running the floor, finishing off plays and showing great athleticism. He gives TTS a certified wing threat on both sides of the ball and simply one of the top players in America. He could have a breakout year nationally.

AJ Hoggard Guard: 
Hoggard dropping into this class has frighten some opponents. They now have to devise a plan to slow down this big guard. It’s Hoggard’s job to play alongside Brelsford and make sure these horses are fed. I like his court vision when passing the ball and his size when scoring the rock.

Cameron Byers Forward: 
Byers was a strong rebounding machine who can also score close to the cup. He gives TTS an intimidating force inside especially on the defensive end. If he plays the aggressive role the entire season he could help them make the improbable run.

Ryan Conway Guard:
Conway showed he could get things done at the Future Phenom Camp. He’s a multi-purpose guard that uses his strength to impact the game. On TTS Conway might be relied on to be instant offense off the bench and guard one of the top scorers from the other team.

Austin Allison Guard: 
Allison is the hired gun and zone stretcher. Most teams will probably fall back into some type of zone against TTS and Allison should make them pay. He will be counted on to keep the defense honest. If he gets hot early opponents will be in for a long day.

Isaiah Todd Forward: 
Todd’s 6’6 and his best days of basketball are ahead of him. He rebounds, blocks shots and runs the floor well. He will make it very difficult for opponents to score or get second chance points. His presence alone helps them present the top frontline in the United States.

Demon Clowney Forward: 
Standing 6’4 Clowney is the muscle for TTS. He will hit the glass like a mad man and doesn’t care about scoring the pill. His focus is playing hard and clearing out space for potential scorers.

Montez McNeil Forward: 
Just when you thought things couldn’t get worse you throw in McNeil. Montez is an inside scoring machine with a big frame. Last season he was a load to handle on the 6th Grade level. Now with these other pieces around him he could be even more dangerous.

My Future Phenom Camp Experience Feat: Jaden Springer (North Carolina)

Few youngsters have burst onto the national scene like Jaden Springer. The North Carolina product recently won the 5th Grade AAU National Championship and led his 6th Grade team to National runner up in Hampton, Virginia. After that Springer challenged himself with a visit to the Future Phenom Camp in which he proved why he is one of the best. He finished as the MVP of the Class Of 2020. We got a chance to talk to Jaden and here’s what he had to say. 

My Future Phenom Camp Experience Feat: Jaden Springer (North Carolina) 

BS: What was your mindset going into the camp? 
JS: I wanted to dominate and work hard in the drills so I can get better. 

BS: How did you like the drills session? 
JS: I think the drill session was great because I learned a lot of new things that I can take home and work on. 

BS: Who was the best player you faced at the Future Phenom Camp? 
JS: I say Jordan Toles because he was bigger and stronger than everyone else in our age group. It was a great challenge playing against him. 

BS: What was your favorite aspect of the camp? 
JS: The games because we got chance to battle against the other top players in the country. 

BS: How does the Future Phenom Camp stack up against other camps you have attended? 
JS: It has to be the best because I didn’t attend many big camps but this one had so much talent and was very competitive. 

BS: Give me one word to describe the Future Phenom Camp. 
JS: Competitive

My Future Phenom Camp Experience Feat: Tyler Brelsford (Maryland)

Tyler Brelsford entered the Future Phenom Camp with a target on his back. Many opponents wanted to match up with the Maryland point guard to gain notoriety for taking him off the throne. Brelsford stood tall and finished as one of the Top 5 players in the camp and best playmaker or passer award. We got a chance to sit down with the floor general and here’s what he had to say. 

My Future Phenom Camp Experience Feat: Tyler Brelsford (Maryland) 

BS: What was your mindset coming into the camp? 
TB: I just reclassified into the Class of 2020 and I wanted to prove I was the best point guard in the country. So I came into the camp with a chip on my shoulder. 

BS: How did you like the drill session? 
TB: Good because we worked on everything we needed; shooting, dribbling, passing and even shell defense. 

BS: Who was the best player you faced at the Future Phenom Camp? 
TB: I would say AJ Hoggard because he’s skilled, strong and just plain good. 

BS: What was your favorite aspect of the camp? 
TB: Playing the games because we got a chance to play against all the top players in the country and show our talents in front of the top scouts. 

BS: How does the Future Phenom Camp stack up against other camps you have attended? 
TB: It was one of the best because it was organized and didn’t have too many players on a team. So you got a chance to come right in and play your game. 

BS: Give me one word to describe the Future Phenom Camp. 
TB: Competitive

My Future Phenom Camp Experience Feat: Zahree “Boy Wonder” Harrison (Pennsylvania)

Nicknamed “Boy Wonder” Zahree Harrison is a well-traveled basketball player. He has been to camps, tournaments and showcase events all over the country. He’s never afraid to be his game and name on the line against other top players. His last stop was the Future Phenom Camp. We talked to his about his time in District Heights, Maryland and here’s what he had to say. 

My Future Phenom Camp Experience Feat: Zahree “Boy Wonder” Harrison 

BS: What was your mindset going into the camp? 
ZH: I wanted to show everyone I could be a true point guard. In the past I’ve shown I could score the ball but now I’m trying to concentrate on running a team and getting my teammates involved. I’m just trying to make everyone better. 

BS: How did you like the drill session? 
ZH: It was great because we learned a lot of new things but also competitive. It gave us a chance to really get at it. 

BS: Who was the best player you faced at the Future Phenom Camp? 
ZH: I would say AJ Hoggard because this was his first time playing in our age group and he was dominant. He showed that his basketball IQ is on a very high level. 

BS: What was your favorite aspect of the camp? 
ZH: The games, especially playing with Jaden Springer. I loved just feeding him the ball and watching him go to work. I enjoyed that a lot. 

BS: How does the Future Phenom Camp stack up against other camps you have attended? 
ZH: It’s right up there, it had the talent, competition and good drills. Also it was close to home so my family and friends were able to watch me play. 

BS: Give me one word to describe the Future Phenom Camp. 
ZH: Excellent!
