Analysis: Moore showed why he's considered one of the top prospects in America. He can hit the long ball and finish high above the rim. I also noticed more ball handling and trying to create off the dribble. The next piece he needs to add is an in between game in terms of a mid range pull up and floater in the lane. This will help on the next level when teams try to slow down his slashing ability.

Analysis: Langford is a rare physical specimen that’s tough to handle on the 8th Grade level. He’s always in attack mode and changes gears in a split second. This kid is an opponent’s nightmare because he combines a knack to score with an extremely high motor. At this point I couldn’t get a serious gauge on his outside shot but the way he built and attacks reminds me of a young Paul Harris.

Analysis: I got the privilege of watching Pearson’s first game on Sunday morning he tore up the competition. He had everything flowing including mid range pull ups and strong finishes at the tin. He muscles his way through defenders and rebounds heavy on both back boards. He represented the Lone Star State to the fullest.

Analysis: The pass first floor general actually got his game going after knocking down a bunch of jumpers. Once the defense had to respect his stroke he began to pick them apart with penetration. He loves to thread the needle with pinpoint passes and even delivers the rock with his off hand. He’s very creative with the rock while being able to shoot off the dribble or when the rock rotates his way.

Analysis: Fleming also has earned a lot of hype on You tube and because of his relationships with pro athletes. This weekend he stood toe to toe with some of the best and held his own. Physically he’s still behind some of the other campers especially 8th Graders but he still was very effective. His battles with Jashuan Agosto during drills were definitely something to watch. I hope I get a chance to watch this youngster at AAU Nationals.

Analysis: This was my first look at this prospect and I walked away very impressed. He runs the floor like a gazelle and finishes in traffic with authority. He presented huge problems for opponents on both ends of the floor because of his length. He can create a little off the dribble but that area does have room for improvement. The scariest aspect of his game is that he hasn’t scratched the surface of his potential. He has future star written all over him with hard work.

The end of August Basketball Spotlight will be releasing our first full National Player Rankings. We will be attending several events to make sure we are on point with our rankings. Please remember that our player rankings are only our opinion and should taken as such. Our ranking system will take place twice a year (August and March).

MICAH LANCASTER'S I'M POSSIBLE ELITE SKILLS TRAINING CAMPS IN NEW JERSEY AT MONROE SPORTS CENTER

When a player comes to a Micah Lancaster camp, they will experience much of the same advanced teaching and instruction as are offered at Nike Skill Academies and NBA workouts, but broken down in a progressive form that every player can handle no matter their age or skill level. Players will participate in a daily film session to watch the teaching points and moves they have learned. The film sessions summarize the true purpose of the camp – to teach players how to train on their own! Camp Director and head camp trainer, Micah Lancaster takes a hands-on approach with all of the players and is present at all times during camp. Micah’s staff includes I’m Possible Trainers, local basketball instructors, and current and former collegiate stars. The ratio of coaches to players will never exceed 10 players to 1 coach, but even that matters very little. Micah Lancaster’s innovative teaching techniques are designed to make every player feel like they are alone with him in the gym. This camp is for the passionate player that wants to elevate their game to the next level!

Mid Atlanic 11U Championship Recap: ECE-NJABC Wins Thriller

ECE-NJABC Wins Again  

Jalen Gaffney scored 26 points and Anthony Hoggard added 22 markers as ECE-NJABC defeated Team Nelson 65-58 in double overtime to win the Mid Atlantic 11U Championship. Congrats to ECE-NJABC for winning another title. See you guys at the Grand Finale.

Wall 2 Wall Gets It Done 

 Michael Esquilin scored 18 points and Aidan Ellwood added 16 markers as Wall 2 Wall defeated RIP City 56-45 to win the Mid Atlantic AAU 12U Championship. Congrats to Wall 2 Wall for winning the crown, now the real challenge awaits in a few weeks at the MDC.

Analysis: The nation got a chance to see how Smith earned the nickname “La Smoove”. He made things look so easy while making plays. His all around game including scoring and superb court vision seemed to dazzle spectators at times. Smith has a unique craftiness to his game and his ability to use both hands to score or pass makes him difficult to contain on this level. Some special players have the foresight of seeing the play before it develops and he seems to be one of them. He tops our list of combo guards.

You Tube Sensations Square Off: Jaylin Fleming and Jashaun Agosto

Jashaun Agosto and Jaylin Fleming are both YouTube sensations that met up at the 2012 John Lucas Middle School Combine in Houston Texas. The two went head to head on multiple occasions and challenged each other to take their games to the next level. Agosto is an eighth grader (Class of 2016), while Jaylin is a seventh grader (Class of 2017).

Analysis: Physically Gist was too much for many of the point guard defenders he faced. Once he got them on his hip he usually dropped them off in the lane before finishing at the cup. He also used this created space to drop passes to his big men or drive and kick to guards on his squad. Asante’ was even more dangerous when his outside shot was falling including his strong pull up. He showed good balance and rhythm well running the show. He was the best point guard I saw in Houston.

Analysis: A few years ago I had Tatum penciled as a point guard but now it seems he has floated to the two spot. He uses his size well especially when shooting a fade away when posting up smaller defenders. Though still thin Tatum rebounded well out of position and has some confidence in his stroke. He is definitely one to watch and showed an enormous prospect down the road.

Analysis: Harvey caught my eye early during one on one drills and I was even more impressed when it was revealed that he was only a 7th Graders. Standing 6’4 DJ used a crafty handle to dance around defenders afterwards he usually finished with a fluid pull up jumper. Throughout the weekend his poise and ability to get an open look made him one of my favorite players to watch. He has to be a Top 5 prospect in the country in his class.

Analysis: Many wondered if Davis was the best big man in America and my answer is yes. This weekend he was by far the most dominant player that this event. He got the best of Khalea Turner during their match up by running the floor, finishing strong and hitting the open jumper. Yes Davis can stick it even beyond the 3 point line. His outside shot is a great asset as long as he remembers that his bread and butter is in the paint. He was definitely a joy to watch.
