The Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup 10U Division has only 6 teams but they are quality ball clubs. Here’s a look at some of the top teams and baby ballers that will be in attendance.
Clash For The Cup 10U Preview
Natural Ballers: The team from the Garden State has one of the top point guards in Jaheim Tanksley. This kid can dribble through a key hole and score from anywhere. He gives them a legit chance to win it all.
Playtime Panthers: The Green and Black are always capable of getting things done. They specialize in speed and good guard play. We will see how they will handle the heat at the Clash For The Cup.
Riverside Hawks: Mark Jerome’s crew is none to be very good at the young ages. This group has been getting it done in local leagues and tournaments all year. Now they will be making their Spotlight debut.
Team Takeover: This group is one of the top teams in the Potomac Valley. It will be interesting to see how they look in the bright lights. They might be one of the favorites.
T Town Ballers: The boys from the Capital City are known to play hard and bring the noise. The field is tough so they will get tested. Expect them to come out swinging.
Team Nelson: The Mid Atlantic king pins are coming to the Spotlight to win it all. They have some size and good guards. Don’t be surprised if they are in the winner’s circle.
Tyler Dorsey one of the top ranked 8th Graders in America will be making his Spotlight debut this weekend with Cali Style. Tyler has shown he is a national star and has put in work on the AAU National scene but this is his first time at Basketball Spotlight. Dorsey is ranked as a top 8th Grader on many sites. Can he lead Cali Styles to a title? We will be watching and give you the report. Check out Dorsey at a camp and California.
Breakdown: We introduced you guys to Giles last May after checking him out at the DC Assault tourney. The wiry forward went on to have excellent showings throughout the summer including the 12U Nationals. He’s regarded as one of the top 7th Graders in the country and has the potential to something serious in the future. Check out his dominance on this video. Video created by Hype Basketball.
Breakdown: Since winning Mr. Memorial Day last May at the MDC Tyler has been still putting in work. At the Under Armour MLK Tournament of Champions at University of Maryland he led his Nationally 8th ranked DC Assault 4th Grade squad over Fairfax Stars who are ranked 6th in the country by a score of 45 - 43 in the semifinal. Running the point he had 14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals. They then went ahead to beat Nike Team Takeover in the Championship. He has great court vision and enjoys dropping dimes but can also put the ball in the basket. He is considered one of the top point guards in his age group.

There’s nothing really as far as school goes. We’re just reviewing some material for mid-terms. I’m really excited to do the mid-terms because I know what’s going to be on it and I am studying also. There was nothing really as far as basketball during the week except for a basketball practice on Friday and the MLK Classic on the weekend.
The Got Game practice was for review for our two new big men Ahmad, and Keyaire. Shout out to them for coming in and working hard for their first tournament with us. We worked on the press and went over a lot of our plays. Coach Wilson and Coach Claudio stressed the spacing of our plays because if we didn’t space out the plays they simply cannot work. The whole team went hard in anticipation of the tournament.
Actually, my weekend started off with a school game against a tough West Orange team. We were missing two of our best players but that is no excuse. We lost our first game in two years. We couldn’t rebound, we couldn’t make a shot and they were hitting their shots. But it’s okay, we will go back to the drawing board and see them again in the playoffs or championship hopefully. After that game I had to rush over to Neptune for our first MLK Classic game against The Devils from South Jersey. We dug ourselves a hole but then went on a 19-0 run to cut it down to 1 point. Eventually we had to start fouling so we lost the game by one. That is a lesson we all learned, not get down in a hole. Coming back also showed that we had heart instead of folding and giving up. We played Long Branch after that and won by 55 points. We executed well and kept the energy throughout the whole game.
Then was the game we were all waiting for, Got Game vs. Hoop Nation. As some of you know, our big man Jameer left us and went to Hoop Nation so it was a vendetta game. LOL. It was very personal and there was a lot of talking back and forth. Everyone’s energy was up and we all played hard. We were down 6 at half time. We needed to get more offensive boards because they were pushing it out on us and scoring. Shout out to Jordan who had a couple big boards throughout the game. Late in the game we got a lot of steals off the press and converted them into baskets and finally took the lead. We got a lot of second chance rebounds as well. We made foul shots at the end of the game to extend the lead and won by 10 points.
We had a little rest then we had to play the Linden Ballers. Every time we play them it’s a battle. It was pretty back and forth throughout the game they were hitting their shots and we were hitting our shots. We got a lot of defensive rebounds and push outs. We also got a lot of steals off of the press. In the 2nd half we played bad defensively and they got easy buckets. We went cold shooting so we had to bang it inside. We were missing easy layups and they were not. We ended up losing by 6 points. I was very mad after the game because of how hard we played the first game to get there. We simply were not there the 2nd game but we will keep practicing and working hard. It won’t take long and our new teammates will learn our plays and next time we play it will be easier for them.
That’s it for this week, tune in next time. The General is OUT!
Hello Basketball World. It’s your boy "Fresh" coming back at you to tell you about my weekend. First I just wanna say I’m sorry to everyone an especially Basketball Spotlight for not letting you know about my weeks. Now I will tell you about my week. This week was mainly about preparing myself for the Clash For The Cup at Hoop Group.
On Monday, I stayed in the house and mainly did of push-ups, sit-ups, calf raises, and squats. Basketball is a very mental game but, being physically ready is a whole other story. On Tuesday, I had a middle school game. We won by 30, the whole team played good even the younger kids which is nice to see. On Wednesday, after school I went to the barbershop real quick to get a lite philly fade. LOL.. Then after that I went the recreation center to go play ball with the old heads. They always pick me up even though I’m the youngest because I always show them what I can. On Thursday, I had a middle school game and Team Final practice. For our school game we played against the Hun school. We ended up winning by 31 and I had 18 points and like 5 assist. We all played good that game even though we were undersized. At Team Final practice everybody was more focus than ever to get prepared for this tournament and hopefully bring some hardware back home.
On Friday we had the day off of school because the semester is changing. Team Final had practice and it was mostly about conditioning and going over some simple things. On Saturday, we had a little scrimmage against are younger Team Final. I just love the way they fight so hard and battle. Later on, I stayed over my second family house with Rex and Tyheem. Me and Tyheem stayed up for little bit and was watching some clips of the top high school players in the nation. Like Austin Rivers, Michael Gilchrist, and Myck Kabongo. On Sunday, Team Final had practice at Villanova. We were able to see some of the players working out and things like that. I was happy to see and shake hands with the player I play like (Corey Fisher). That practice was about going over the little things and getting comfortable with the offense. Later on, the team went to the Neumann Goretti vs. Roman Catholic. It was a good game the whole game with a lot of are older Team Final players going at each other. But Lamin Fulton opened the game up for Neumann with a lot of three pointers. Neumann Goretti came out on top 70 to 62. Til next time remember "Basketball is 70% mental and 30% physical". Stay tuned for more from Lamarr "Fresh" Kimble.
The New Jersey Youth Basketball Showdown took place in Paterson, NJ and Basketball Spotlight was in the building. This report is the recap from the 13U showdown.
North Team: 53 South Team 42
Top Performers
Nahzir Smith Guard (Paterson, NJ)- Wow the miniature battle rock gave the crowd a true treat with his ball handling and decision making. He danced through the south defense and used the floater to finish. Smith’s crossover is very low and tight.
Nasmeir Barrett Forward (Paterson, NJ)- Barrett was the inside bruiser and doesn’t miss many lay ups. He has a strong frame but will end of being a guard so he must begin to handle the rock. Right now his strength helps him get away with it on this level.
Juvaris Hayes Guard (Paterson, NJ)- Hayes is probably the most talented guard on this squad. He does so much with the rock and loves to dance through the defense. In transition he was able to finish and had too many tricks in his bag to defend.
Quayson Williams Guard (Trenton, NJ)- Williams came to play for the South team. He has some sharp moves and a strong pull up in the lane. Physically he’s mature and he uses this advantage to overpower opponents. He might round out to be a good prospect.
Jacaquan Dodson Guard (Trenton, NJ)- Dodson was one of the quickest players on the floor. He beat his defender to the tin at will but had a hard time finishing off plays. This kid has serious speed.
The New Jersey Youth Basketball Showdown took place in Paterson, NJ and Basketball Spotlight was in the building. This first recap is a breakdown of the girls 8th Grade Game.
Score North Team: 63 South Team: 52
Top Performers
Nikki Johnson Guard (Parsippany, NJ)- Johnson can flat shoot the rock. This young lady was lights out from behind the arc. She nailed over 6 treys and they all were all net. I also like they way she sees the floor and pushes the rock with patience. Keep in mind she is only a 7th Grader. This is a name to remember. This girl has poise.
Kyiarah English Guard (East Orange, NJ)- English was the lady floor general for the North team. She has a good drive and kick game while using her speed to get deep into the lane. Towards the end of the game she showed some of her scoring prowess which helped her team take home the win.
Jasmin Gee Forward (Englewood, NJ)- Gee was tough on the glass and does have the ability to score inside. She used her size to intimidate opponents and hit the glass hard. She’s also only a 7th Grader. Keep an eye on her.
Aliyah Jeune Guard (Mount Holly, NJ)- Jeune has a chance to be someone very special in the game of basketball. She is very long, lanky and can play all five positions on the floor. Her ball handling his very unique for her size (5’11) and when she scores she makes it look very easy. I also must add that she sees floor like a pure point guard. Mark my words this young lady will be someone to watch out for in the future.
Mei-Lyn Bautista Guard (Queens, NY)- The NY guard earned a special invite to this event and didn’t disappoint. She handles the ball primary with her left but is a natural right hand scorer. What separates her from most of her peers is her willingness to deliver the rock to her teammates. She’s one of the best grammar school passers I’ve seen this year male or female.
Kristin Smith Forward (Hainesport, NJ)- The strong rebounder is very skilled and knows her way from the floor. She has good mid range touch and hustles to grab every rebound and loose ball. Any high school coach would love to have her.
Breakdown: If you ever played against the Fairfax Stars formerly the Virginia Cardinals you know about Thrash. The pint size point guard plays big and loves attacking the paint off the bounce. Once he gets into the lane he finds a way to deliver to the rock to teammates or score over shot blockers. On defense he follows the rock with quick foot movement and specializes in picking the pocket of opposing guards. Check out Carlos during some of his recent highlights.

What’s happening everyone? This ya boy “Fresh” back at you again! Before I start I just want to apologize for not checking in with yaw every week, and I’m going to try to not let it happen again.
But yea about I’m weekend my team (CBC) and I had a tournament up in Mass (Jr. Hoop hall classic) and we lost the semi-final game to Xpressions again. In the beginning of the game we hopped out on them, and the score was 15 to 2. By the second half they were up by 6. We had them on the ropes until we started slacking on defense and wasn’t getting back. It was a hard fought game and I was really mad that we lost. They are a really good team (shout out to my boy Chris Baldwin and Juwan Gooding), but we will see them again though no doubt. I would love to see them matched up with Team Final (Trevaughn Wilkerson and Lamar Kimble), that would be a good game!
In terms of school, my basketball team is 2-1. We lost to this team Sage Park by 2. The score was 74-72 and I had 43 points with like 6 turnovers. In the 4th quarter I hit a deep three ball to tie it up with 1:50 left and I screamed BUCKETS to the other coach and I almost got a tech. I was lucky that I got a warning instead. After I hit the three, their point guard came down and laid it up with under a minute left. Then I got the ball, they trapped me so I gave it to our shooting guard, he went for a lay-up and missed because he was fouled but they didn’t call it so we lost. But it’s what ever, we have a game Tuesday against Sports and Science Academy and my boy Coop goes there. He’s always talking junk so I’m about to go in on them and show him what CBC is about.
In terms of school I received my report card about 4 weeks ago and my grades were a B in Science a B+ in History a B+ in Art History a B in Math a C in English and I’m not doing to good in Spanish, I need to pick my grade up. Lately I’ve been getting a little taller so I have been trying to do a lot of push-ups and work on my handle.
Before I slice I just want to give a shout out to ma little brother Jaecee, he play with 12u CBC and he had a triple double 13 points 17 assists and 10 steals according to bballspotlight. I’m proud of you bro keep it up.
Iight yaw!!! Imma holla at yaw next week with more of my weekend
