Clash For The Cup 5th Grade Best Of The Best & Top 15 Player Performance Rankings

The Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup 5th Grade gave us a good glimpse of the future. Here’s a look at the Best of the Best and Top 15 Player Performance Rankings.

Clash For The Cup 5th Grade Best Of The Best

Best Performer: Ty Carnegie (Playtime Panthers)
Carnegie showed the total package during the weekend. When he got hot from the perimeter resembled a young Steph Curry.

Best Passer: Braylin Sanjurjo (Playtime Panthers)
This kid has to have eyes in the back of his head because he drop dimes from every angle. He gets a kick out of letting teammates score.

Best Prospect: Keith McKnight (Playtime Panthers)
McKnight versatility was apparent at the Clash. We believe he will venture out to the wing and continue to develop a nice looking prospect.

Best Shooter: Brandon Srebnik (Riverside Hawks)
Brandon showed the range from behind the arc. Once he set his feet it was bombs away. He has one of the best ratchets in the region.

Best Playmaker: MJ Ford (Hoop Nation NYC)
Ford is confident ball handler, passer and scorer. The bigger the stage the bigger his performance. He has a star quality in his game.

Best Defender: Jalen Munson (Hoop Nation)
Munson was not only a scorer but he also was a beast on the defensive end. He caused turnovers from the press and played the passing lanes well.

Best Fresh Face: Jewel Walker (Team Durant)
Walker was a scoring machine over the weekend. He was a beast in the paint. He used his soft hands and touch to torch opponents on the blocks.

Best Scorer: Chidi Nwigwe (NY Rens)
Chidi played up but it didn’t matter to the shooting guard. He has the size and athletic ability to get buckets. Nwigwe has the look of a nice prospect down the road. He averaged close to 20 points a game.

Best Floor General: Mesean Williams (NJ Shore Shots)
I like the way this kid handles the rock and make decisions. He’s confident to play his game and control the game with his tempo. He’s a constant contributor.

He gave us a taste of his outside touch in their win versus the NJ Shore Shots as he nailed 2 treys and scored a team high 15 points. This baby baller has skills.

Teach Me Classic Players Of The Week Presented By Mr. Spotlight!

The Teach Me Classic kicked off in Teaneck NJ and Mr. Spotlight was in the building to award the Player Of The Week with Spotlight uniforms. The Teach Me Classic has turned into the top winter league in the region and Basketball Spotlight is proud to a part of this league.

Teach Me Classic Players Of The Week

13U Ty'laur "Q" Wilson (Ballercise Elite)

Q' is a joy to watch. Last week his team faced a single game elimination in the Quarter Final round and he "Single handedly" turned the game around with a full arsenal: Scoring the Rock, Passing the Pill and Stealing the Show. Mr. "Do It All" will be present in the Semi Final round with a tough out against House Elite / SK with another tough guard to stop their advancement.
13U Sha'heed Jenkins (Hilltopper Heat)

Shoti' is what they call him. He is a nightmare for any 1 on 1 defender in the 13U division. He has court awareness and can score the ball with the best. TMC is narrowing down their league play and roll into the Playoffs and All-Star game and he is one of the top guards to keep an eye on.
11U Malcolm Ford, Jr.   (Hoop Nation NYC)

MJ is making a name for himself real fast during this season. He's been in several wars and battled against SILVERBACKS, IZOD SPORTS-U and RIVERSIDE in the TMC and has shined bright in every game. He has the total package as a PG and will be facing a rematch in the Semi Finals against PLAYTIME to so see who advances to the big dance of the 11U Teach Me Classic Chip. Mr. Spotlight will be happy to be in the building to watch this....
9U Noah Reichitch (MB Ballers)

If you walk in the gym and give him the eye test...don't do it..... think twice, this kid's IQ is at the top of the bracket in our Baby Ballers division. He had a hard fight during the Qtr Final round against Team Izod but had every one of their guards on skates before taking a loss. We will see him in the All-star game at the end of the season.

Jersey Force Holding AAU Tryouts

The Jersey Force AAU Program will be holding tryouts for their Spring 2017 season. The dates and details are listed on the flirt above. Contact Jerseyforceaau@gmail.com for questions.

Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup 5th Grade Top Performers Part 1

Ty Carnegie

The Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup 5th Grade Division gave a look at some of the top baby ballers in the region. We were excited to see the young fella’s rock. Here’s Part 1 of our top performers from this division.

Clash For The Cup 5th Grade Top Performers Part 1

Ty Carnegie Guard (Playtime)- This kid can flat out go. His range is when he steps on the floor. He gets it done on all three levels and isn’t afraid to pull the trigger from the cheap seats. Once he gets the stroke going it could be lights out for the competition. I also love his poise and confidence on the floor. He nailed 4 treys in the championship on his way to a game high 20 points.

Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup 6th Grade Top Performers Part 3

Dante Green

The Basketball Spotlight Clash For the Cup 6th Grade Division was loaded with top players from the region. Here’s Part 3 of the top performers from Neptune, NJ. Basketball Spotlight

Clash For The Cup 6th Grade Top Performers Part 3

Dante Green Forward (NY Rens) – We feel this long wing forward has a bright future. Right now he is a mismatch and can do everything on the floor pretty good. Green can make shots all the way out to the three point line but is at his best slicing through the defense either in the half court or in transition. On defense he was playing on the top of the two three zone causing problems for opposing guards because of his length. We saw him tally 16 points in the game we watched.

CLASH FOR THE CUP MIXTAPES: NY RENS DUO DOES DAMAGE AT CLASH!

Tristan Jeffries & TJ Morris

Tristan Jeffries and TJ Morris provided a lot scoring punch from the wing for the NY Rens at the Clash For The Cup. The versatile duo can guard and play multiple positions on the floor. They were two of the reasons this NY Rens squad ran through the Clash For The Cup in impressive fashion. Stay tuned we bring you more coverage from the Clash For The Cup.

Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup 6th Grade Top Performers Part 2

Dajon Burton

The Basketball Spotlight Clash For the Cup 6th Grade Division was loaded with top players from the region. Here’s Part 2 of the top performers from Neptune, NJ. Basketball Spotlight

Clash For The Cup 6th Grade Top Performers Part 2

Dajon Burton Guard (Boston Spartans) – Burton is a big wing guard that plays the game the right way. He is one of the few players that advanced the ball up the court with quick long passes up the sideline as he always has his head up and understands where everyone is on the court. Dajon’s biggest strength is his ability to knock down the 3 point shot. He has a picture perfect shot with a high IQ and is able to rebound his position at a high level.

Spotlight Alum Battle Nails Game Winner!

Tyus Battle

Long time Basketball Spotlight legend Tyus Battle nailed a 3-pointer as time expired to help Syracuse defeat Clemson 82-81 in ACC action. Basketball Spotlight would like to congratulate Tyus and wish him the best of luck the rest of the way.

Diary Of A Baller: Adrissa Traore (Harlem, NY) Entry #8

Adrissa And His Teammates

Hello Basketball World,

Monday, I went to school as usual. I had an okay day, nothing to complain about. After school I went to a mandatory study hall for my school basketball team. It was helpful because if I needed a little bit of help we can asked the teacher or our coaches.

On Tuesday, I didn't have school because the school had a professional development day. So I went to my friend's house to study because I had my history midterm the next day. Honestly think I did well. I like History because I learn something every day and it's easy in my opinion. After I finished studying I went to work out with Coach Greg to continue to work on my handles and long range shooting. That session, I learned how important it is to be confident when I am taking shots and saw that once I got more comfortable shooting 3's and I started making them.

On Thursday, I also had a workout, we continued working on ball handling and working to get our guard skills stronger. Who knows if I stop growing I'll have to play the 2 in college. So I want to make sure I can do it all.

Over the weekend I spent time with my family, helping my family around the house with chores. I'm out most of the time so, it was cool to be with my family to help out in the house and watched the Super bowl. It was a surprising game. Anything can happen, The Patriots kept fighting and found a way to win.

Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup 6th Grade Top Performers Part 1

Christian Bliss

The Basketball Spotlight Clash For the Cup 6th Grade Division was loaded with top players from the region. Here’s Part 1 of the top performers from Neptune, NJ.

Clash For The Cup 6th Grade Top Performers Part 1

Christian Bliss Guard (Riverside Hawks) – Christian is a high IQ point guard with a great feel for the game. This nice size point guard has all the skill and intangibles you want in a floor general plus he knows how to win. He always seemed to make a big play when he team needed it whether it was a big three pointer, a big rebound, or a big steal. At the 6th grade level I am not sure you will find an overall better PG. He is tough as nails and is a supreme leader for his squad. Bliss is a great communicator with his teammates on both ends of the floor and is an extension of the coach. He finished with 8 points in the championship and 15 points in the semifinal.

CJ Riley

The Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup 7th Grade Division produced a new champion and featured some of the top teams and players in the region. Here’s Part 3 of our Top Performers.

Clash For The Cup 7th Grade Top Performers Part 3

CJ Riley Guard (Riverside Hawks)- Once again tis guard electrified the crowd at a Spotlight event. The lead guard plays the game with quickness and attacks the rim with a relentless effort. He saved one of his best games versus top notch Team RIO National as he dropped 24 points in the victory. Then he went on to score 25 markers against PSA Cardinals in their quarterfinal loss. Once he gets going he’s one of the toughest guards to contain on the circuit and perhaps the country.

Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup 7th Grade Top Performers Part 2

Issac Santiago

The Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup 7th Grade Division produced a new champion and featured some of the top teams and players in the region. Here’s Part 2 of our Top Performers.

Clash For The Cup 7th Grade Top Performers Part 2

Issac Santiago Guard (PSA Cardinals)- Santiago is naturally a point guard but also was able to get into the scoring column this weekend. He has crafty moves to get into the lane and while also excelling in transition. He looks his best when he pushing the rock downhill. His presence and play making helped the Cardinals reach the finals.

Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup 7th Grade Top Performers Part 1

Antonio Sellers

The Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup 7th Grade Division produced a new champion and featured some of the top teams and players in the region. Here’s Part 1 of our Top Performers.

Clash For The Cup 7th Grade Top Performers Part 1

Antonio Sellers Forward (Gauchos)- The combo forward showed why he’s ranked high on every scouting service in the country. He’s a constant matchup problem from most defenders. Sellers can wiggle around big forwards or back down and shoot over smaller guards. He has total confidence in his ability and isn’t afraid to take the big shot or make the game winning play. He showed top notch scoring ability with 22 points versus the Playaz and nailing 4 treys on his way to 25 markers against Team Final. He also impressed us with his court vision.

Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup 8th Grade Top Performers Part 3

Kurt Hemderson

The Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup 8th Grade Division featured some of the top players in the country. Here’s a look at Part 3 of our 8th Grade Top Performers.

Clash For The Cup 8th Grade Top Performers Part 3

Kurt Henderson Guard (Expressions) – Kurt could be considered as a top 10 point guard in the class of 2021. He already has a high school ready body with strength and athleticism. Henderson had to take on more of the scoring load this past weekend with the absence of Reyes and Constant. He seems to always get in the paint either scoring with an array of finishes at the rim with either hand or driving and kicking to open shooters. He navigates the pick and roll and seems to always get his shoulders square and attacks the defense. He excels in transition and he relied less on his jumper even though he can knock it down out past the three point line. He finished with 24 and 16 points in the games we watched.

Clash For The Cup 8th Grade Top Performers Part 2

Jalen Hammond Guard (NY All Americans) – Last time we saw Jalen he was running with his primary team the PSA Cardinals which didn’t play in the event so he was playing with a onetime put together fill in team to get some extra run. He did just that as he was arguably the top Point Guard playing in the 8th grade division. Hammond navigated the pick and roll like a cagey veteran maneuvering through the defenses basically getting to the basket at will all weekend long. His game is smooth and calculated and he can finish at the rim with either hand through or around contact. He also is an above average passer and can knock down his pull up jumper but right now his bread and butter is getting to the rim. Jalen has nice size and is a good defender using his length and quickness and can rebound well for his position. He scored a team high 12 points in the game we watched.
