Grand Finale 14U Orange Preview

Can Team Final Defend Their Grand Finale Crown?

The 14U Orange Division is total fire at the Grand Finale. There are 12 teams that have a chance to leave with the crown. Here’s a breakdown of the teams that will be colliding for the title.

Grand Finale 14U Orange Preview

Team Final: The defending champs have reloaded in a big way. Their new additions include Malachi Richardson, Sam Foreman and Terquin Mott. When you add them to the heavy roster it looks like a National title run is probable. But first they have to make it through this serious field.

Philly Aztecs: Word is that this will be the Tec’s coming out party. Marcus Floyd will be running the show for this revamped bunch. A potential championship matchup with TF could be on the horizon. I also can’t wait to see this new guard named Tracy Carter, I heard he’s tremendous.

The City: The City is supposed to be in the building fully loaded. Donovan Mitchell has been electrifying so far this season and Wolfie can still nail the 3 ball. They should have a few new pieces so watch out.

Future Players: Leroy Butts might be one of the most talented prospects in attendance. While he gets it done in the paint, Reggie Parker and Andrew Hill will handle the perimeter.

NJ Got Game: NJGG are out for redemption and will start things out with a matchup against Philly Aztecs. Otis Livingston will display his point guard skills and Isaiah Stills should be ready for his breakout season.

Team Scan/KYDA (NY): The B&B backcourt (Barrino and Briscoe) are now joined by Sonny Lorenzo and this should only make this crew better. Austrian Robinson is tough down low but will need help on the boards in this event.

Albany Dream Team: Juwan Gooding has been torching the nets in NY but he will need some more bullets when he touches down at HGH. Big Marcus Jackson will be patrolling the middle so Coach P feels they have a legit shot.

F.A.C.E.S.: The band is back together and it should be interesting. Trey Lowe has returned and the Philly boys will be ready to show their skills. Coach Cole should be looking forward to their pool play matchup with KYDA (NJ).

Team Scan/KYDA (NJ): The defending NJ Champs are back with an unfinished business mentality. Chris Atkinson has shown great strides and Bobby Martin Jr. is a prospering prospect. They will be thoroughly tested in this one.

New Heights: NH has retooled from last season and should make a better impression. Coach Young is back at the helm so you know they will play extremely hard.

MABC: They are known to have serious competitors. A good showing at this event will gave them some clout in the New England area. The Bengals will be ready to play.

Hoop Heaven: Coach Sina has stated that this group is as good as the crew that featured his son Jaren a few years ago. I know they will be very fundamentally sound and able to shoot the pill.

Grand Finale 14U Blue Preview

Will Brooklyn Ballers Be The Last Team Standing?

The 14U Blue Division will feature some high level squads and should be wide open with no clear favorite. Take a look at some of the top teams that will be headed to Hoop Group Headquarters.

Grand Finale 14U Blue Preview

Brooklyn Ballers: The MDC champs are coming back for more hardware. They usually have a scrappy style and never die attitude. This time around they won’t have a chance to sneak up on anyone so they better be prepared.

JS Devils: Don’t be surprised if they are standing in the victory lane on Sunday evening. Jack Laffy is a developing wing while Shaun Belby and Luke O’Shaughnessy handle the backcourt duties. Remember where you heard it first.

Showtime All Stars: Ronshad Allen-Shabazz might be the top prospect in the division. This might be a good opportunity for this NC based squad to represent to the fullest.

Linden: One of the toughest squads around is ready for another street fight. Juwan Dolbrice and Kyle Phipps are always solid while Corey Ampey is developing into a good player. Don’t forget the outside shooting of Dontay Julius.

Abyssinian Church: Jaquan Hickmond is one of the top players in the Big Apple. This is AC’s first trip to the “Spotlight” and they said they are ready. I hope so because the competition is ready.

Team MVP: This group could be considered veterans and are definitely due for a “Spotlight” title. Herbie Ellis and Kevin Alexis should provide the leadership for this Capital City group.

Other Teams To Watch For:
VBC, Montgomery County, Hollis Biddies, T Town Ballers, Team Phenom, Philly Triple Threat.

Grand Finale 13U Orange Preview

Can The "Killer Bees" Repeat As Champs?

The 13U Orange Division is loaded with 8 teams capable of winning it all. Here’s a look at the teams that will be heading for the crown.

Grand Finale 13U Orange Preview

F.A.C.E.S.: The defending champs are back and will be flying up and down the floor. Ray Montilous and Christian Ford are extremely tough inside. They also have good guard play especially with the addition of Jagan Mosley.

DC Assault: Assault is looking for their first “Spotlight” crown. They made it to the finals of the MDC twice so they are thirsty to win the Grand Finale. The combined squad now features the guard quartet of Anthony Mr. Cowan, Alani “Showtime” Moore, Reggie Gardner and Jamar “Boogie” Watson.

NYC Gauchos: The Gauchos will be focused on making a big statement. Paul Suber now has NyRhique Smith running the show with a host of others also chipping in. Keep a close of rising wing Mustapha Heron. He should make an immediate impact.

New Heights: Many are sleeping on this group but when you have Rakym “Bed Stuy Bully” Felder you always have a chance to win. Jared Rivers and Terrell Turner also are capable of causing some raucous.

Team Scan: TS is hungry for some respect. They knocked off a couple of ranked squads during preseason tourneys but do this is a different ball game. Unique Mclean is making a name for himself in the Big Apple and Cameron Winston always gives 100%. This should be interesting.

NY Panthers: Coach Kat has returned to the younger guys. Their names don’t jump out at you just yet but with him at the helm we will be hearing a lot from these boys. They should be ready to rumble.

Fairfax Stars: Fairfax will making their “Spotlight” debut but I’m not a stranger to this group. Chauncey Pittman and Kobe Davis form a respectable backcourt, while Kwame Camon should hold things down in the paint.

MABC: Last but not least MABC has one of the most dominant players around in “King” Ceasar Adim and one of the top wings in Jamal Allen. They made it to the final four of the MDC but would love to be holding the banner when the smoke clears Sunday night. By the way we think “King” Ceasar is more fitting.

Grand Finale 13U Blue Preview

Philly Triple Threat Will Be Ready To Go!

The 13U Blue Division will give us a chance to check out some new and upcoming squads. We expect some big time games and some fresh faces to hit the website after this weekend.

Grand Finale 13U Blue Preview

Philly Triple Threat: PTT has to be one of the favorites. Preseason POY candidate Anthony Carr should be leading the way and his backcourt mate Joshua Sharkey will also be one to watch. We expect them to make a lot of noise.

Montgomery County: Darryl Caldwell and Julian Johnson form a serious 1-2 punch and should have been mentioned in our preseason selections (My Bad). They will be making their debuts and are out to make sure I never forget them again.

Team Elite: Wayne White and Keandre Augustine are capable of taking over at anytime. This is their first time entering the “Spotlight” and they are looking to make an impression.

Force One Basketball: If you don’t know Joe Hampton you will when this event is over. The southpaw forward is smooth but deadly on the blocks and should be able to lead his team deep into the Grand Finale.

T Town Ballers: They will take the drive down 195 East for some serious work. I think they should make an impact in this bracket. But the truth will tell at the Hoop Group Headquarters.

Riverside Hawks: The Hawks have finally made it to the “Spotlight”. This has been a long time coming and we are anxious to see what they are working with.

Morris Magic: I heard they are affiliated with the Morris County Bulls if so than I only expect the best. They have never been in these waters so I’m hoping they are ready to swim.

Shooting Stars: This Massachusetts squad was anxious to get into the fire. This will be a long trip down so but I don’t think they will waste their gas.

Grand Finale 12U Preview

Are The Maryland Panthers Hungry For More Hardware?

The 12U Division at the Grand Finale will reunite a few common opponents. Some of the best teams in the region will be getting it on in Lakewood. There might be a few surprises in store during this event. Check out some of the top names that will be in the building.

Grand Finale 12U Preview

Maryland Panthers: The MDC Champs come in flexing some muscle after finishing 10th in the country. They have one of the most dominant players in the country in Andre Boykin and you can’t forget about top scoring guard Raine Mckeython.

Team Final: The reigning “Team Of The Year” will have a big target on their backs once they hit Lakewood. They have one of the best backcourts in the country in Pierre-Louis and David Kachelries along with a great supporting cast. They might meet up with MP in the finals.

Juice All Stars: Juice All Stars have returned to the Spotlight. Super guard Tyler Bourne and big man Chris Coalman will be leading the attack. They have some tough games from the very beginning.

Team Nelson: The Mid Atlantic Champs are in the building. Stanley Davis and Iyair Hinson Purnell should supply the scoring while Kyson Rawls will be running the show. This group is very anxious for a Spotlight banner.

Delaware Talent: My man Eric Ayala packs a mean punch and he will need it to help his team get through this pool. Myles Cale is also someone to keep an eye out for.

NY Rising Stars: I think this team is also capable of ruffling some feathers. Paul Person is an elite guard on this level and Julian Conover can also fill it up quickly. They recently ran through the Hoop Group Turkey Tip Off.

JSL Hoops: This group seems to be ready to get back on the radar. This will definitely be a serious test for them but should prepare them for a successful season.

T Town Ballers: Welcome to the “Spotlight” guys. Make sure you are ready to represent because this field is very tough.

Grand Finale 11U Preview

Can Riverside Capture Another Banner?

The 11U Division at the Basketball Spotlight Grand Finale should be very exciting. This group has some exciting players returning from last year and they are ready to get it on. Check out this preview of some of the top teams and players that will be in attendance.

Grand Finale 11U Preview

Riverside Hawks: The Hawks showed their worth by winning the AC Showcase which featured some of the top teams in the region. They have a no nonsense coach and some of the top guards you can find. They have to be one of the early favorites. Keep an eye for Cameron Wynter and Atiba Taylor.

NYC Gauchos: Coach Wee will always have the Choz ready for war. They have an impressive attacking style and are ready for a collision with Riverside Hawks. They could meet again in the finals of this event.

Natural Ballers: Mr. Tanksley is worth the price of admissions and should be ready to put on a show. NB has some personnel changes but still has the core intact. Don’t be surprised if they are very tough to beat.

Team NJABC: When Jalen Gaffney is in the building teams need to watch out. The slick floor general directs this squad in the best way. They made some noise last year in 10U and I don’t expect anything to change this time around.

Delaware Royalty: DR is back for some wreck. They have one of the best post players in the business in Jamal Whittlesey. He can virtually dominate the game on both ends of the floor.

We Run: Jalen Brooks name should ring bells for a while. He has come over from Playtime and brought some of his fellow Panthers. We Run might be the new name to know in the Garden State.

T Town Ballers: The group from the capital city will be making their Spotlight debut. They are always a tough group to handle and should be ready to make an immediate impact.

B Rock Basketball: This Ocean County based team will bring a lot of fundamentals to this event. This also will be their Spotlight debut on this age level. I hope these youngsters are ready to go.

Diary Of A Baller: Lamar "Fresh" Kimble (Team Final) Entry #11

Hello Basketball World. It’s your boy "Fresh" back again to tell you about my week. This week was about being thankful for all the things in life. I just want to say I'm thankful for having no school on Thursday and Friday... LOL. I chilled in the house and watched sports do to my ankle still recovering. Thursday was Thanksgiving my dad cooked. It was so good. I wanted to take this time out to say I'm thankful for my family, coaches, teachers, Lawncrest Recreation Center, and my God giving talents. Special thanks to Coach Pervis for making me a better player and person. To Coach Fred for taking time out to help me get better in basketball even though he has own two boys. To Mike Melton for letting kids know that their talents are not unnoticed. To both of my grandmothers' who pretend to know something about basketball... LOL, and my dad for making many sacrifices.

Now back to my week, Friday I went to the Legends Classic in Atlantic City with my boy Trey. We were the ball boys. The first game was Georgia Tech vs. UTEP and the second game was Syracuse vs. Michigan. Georgia Tech won their game and Syracuse pulled out their win. Later on that day my boy Trey spent the night over my house. We played PS3 all night. On Saturday, Team final had a workout type practice I felt out of shape do to my ankle injury. But, I kept working hard and pushed through it. Later on I watched Syracuse play Georgia Tech. Syracuse pulled out the win again and won the championship. Sunday, I watched the Eagles get killed against the Bears. Til next week remember "Be thankful that someone took time out to care". Oh Yea.. Shout out to my old head Dion Waiters (Syracuse) who put in work at the Legends Classic. Stay tuned for more from

Lamarr "Fresh" Kimble.

Diary Of A Baller: Otis "The General" Livingston (NJ Got Game) Entry #10

Whats happening everyone?

This is “The General” back at ya with another week of homework and hoops.

Monday and Tuesday I didn’t really do much on the court because I had a lot of work in Language Arts, Math, Spanish, and Social Studies. It’s the end of the marking period so we had to hand in those last worksheets. After homework, I chilled a little and worked out physically. I did the same routine, the push-ups, sit-ups, the toe raises and jumping rope. My dad says I’m starting to get that bump known as a chest!

I was really looking forward to Wednesday because I was going to get my report card and we had middle school team practice. I got a 93 in Social Studies, a 91 in Math, a 93 in Spanish, a 92 in Language Arts, and an 89 in Science. I was mad about the 89 but it’s alright it’s still a good grade. I have time to bring all those grades up for the 2nd quarter. My school team practice was good. We ran through our plays and scrimmaged a lot. I think playing with 5 AAU players on a regular basis for 3 years has helped my game a lot.

Thursday I was out sick so I didn’t go to school but I’m feeling a lot better now, thanks. Friday we went to pick up my sister Alex from St. Peter’s College. I’m glad she goes there because it’s close to home and she gets to kick it with us and watch a lot of our games. My other sister Hayley doesn’t because she lives in Portland, Oregon this year. We miss her and can’t wait to see her at Christmas time.

My weekend was filled with lots of basketball. I had Got Game practice on Saturday morning. On the way there our truck ran out of gas! So we had to run to the nearest Gas station about a mile away. Man was it noisy on the Garden State Parkway. Nathaniel Robinson our team administrator came and helped us out. We had a good practice though. We ran through all of our plays and we did a lot of shooting drills. After practice I went straight to St. Michaels Gym where they were having a clinic. St. Benedict Prep, St. Anthony High School, and Hudson Catholic coaches and players were all there. It was cool watching them run some of the drills for us. Later that day Got Game went to South Jersey to play in a round robin with Team Rebel out of Philadelphia and Mid-Jersey Heat. Our team caravan hit some traffic and was a little late, but we came in and beat Mid Jersey by 10. After that we played Team Rebel. That was a good game. It was very physical, and had a lot of emotion. Shout out to my teammate Jordan who hit the game winning 3 pointer! We then played Mid-Jersey Heat again and won by a lot.

Sunday we played the 13u FACES in the semifinals of the zoo crew league. They’re always gonna play tough and scrap. It was a good game because it was close, but we didn’t play well. We could’ve played a lot harder, but we didn’t and they beat us by 2. I played alright; I could’ve done a lot better though. I could’ve played smarter too. Sometimes I try to do too much because I want to win so badly. It’s a tough loss but we will learn from it, and we’re going to go back to the lab and keep working like we always do. After that I just chilled at home, and watched Jimmie Johnson continue his dominance in NASCAR as he won his 5th straight Sprint Cup title.

That’s my week in a nutshell, and stay tuned for more.

Otis “ The General” Livingston Jr.

P.S- Shout out to Coach Vinny, who’s playing in Buffalo right now playing in a league. And he’s doin’ work of course! He taught me a lot and I know he’s going to keep working and he loves it up there. Finally, I would love to say HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE!

Who Will Qualify For Summer Slam? Take It To The Message Board!

The Region is stacked with teams in every age group but only 4 will make to Summer Slam. The Road starts December 4th at the Grand Finale and ends at the MDC. When the smoke clears which four squads (12U, 13U, 14U) will qualify for Summer Slam? Let's debate it on the message board.

Diary Of A Baller: Malachi "Mr. Nice" Richardson (Trenton, NJ) Entry #11

What's Up! It's Mr. Nice coming at you. My week at school was cool. Most of the students in my class were going for their confirmation on Friday night so that was the buzz at school all week. The first trimester is over, report cards come out in December. And I'm looking forward to having the few days off for Thanksgiving and hanging out with my family.

Monday we had our playoff game in the high school league, we played okay and the game went into overtime. We could have won the game if my j would have went in with time running out, but it didn't and we went to a overtime. We didn't make plays during the overtime and we had way too many turnovers. I was a little disappointed because I know if my jumper had gone in we wouldn't have been in that overtime situation. Tuesday, I had a workout with Coach P. He showed me some things I needed to work on, my workout wasn't too long, but it was very productive.

Wednesday, I went to TCA to workout. I did my strength training and then I went to the local Y to get some games in. Thursday I went to my Team Final practice for an hour then I was off to my school game. We won in a blowout and we are undefeated.

Friday, was a chill day for me. I went over my friend's house to play 2K10, we were suppose to go workout together after that but he had to cancel and go somewhere with his mom. Saturday, we had 2 games in the Funsport League, this is the best middle school league in NY. We won both games, my boy "Baby J-Kidd" couldn't go this weekend because of an injury, but Malik Ellison stepped in and did his thing.

Sunday I relaxed a little, then I went to my grandmother's house to see my Aunt Jackie, from Atlanta. I got my eat on while I was there and I watched some college ball until my eagles played. Of course the Eagles whipped up on the Giants...lol.

Although I will be off for Thanksgiving I definitely will get my workout on. I can't go that long without working out. Also the high school season starts in New Jersey the day after Thanksgiving. I'm gonna check out TCA's first practice, they have a 4 hour practice scheduled and I heard they won't be touching the ball for the first 2 hours. If your not in shape you will be exposed.

Next week...........
"Mr. Nice"

Diary Of A Baller: Lamarr "Fresh" Kimble (Team Final) Entry #11

Hello Basketball World. Its your boy "Baby J-Kidd". This week was about learning things from the sideline. Monday Team Final had our 2nd play-off game. We fought hard the whole game and were up by 2 in closing minutes. But, a couple of mistakes cost us the game by 6 in OT. During the game I injured my ankle. I went to the hospital Tuesday and found out I had a torn ligament. I was on crutches the rest of the week. Wednesday, I just stayed in the house and watched D-ROSE put in work though they lost to the Spurs. Thursday I stayed after school to watch my teammates practice. I always have to show support even when I can't practice or play. Friday, I stayed after school and watched LCA varsity go at Shipley in the scrimmage. We won 72-61. Shout out to my old head John, he went to work. That night I stayed over my friend Malik Abbott house. We watched Russell Westbrook give Boston 31 without KD playing.

Saturday, Team Final had 2 games in Funsport. Even though I was off the crutches I couldn't play. So I did my thing from the bench, rooting my team on. The first game we played against NJ Pirates, we beat 60 to 35. We were playing the passing lanes and converting on the break. The second game we played Positive Force BG. We did the same we did in the first game. But, we spiced it up with a few dunk attempts. Sunday, I meet my mom side of the family that I didn’t know due to my grandfather passing away. I meet Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. My mom side is huge. My great grandmother had 13 children who gave her 80 grandchildren. It was fun to see more people who look like me. Until next week remember "When you’re not in the game that’s your chance to learn the game".

Stay tuned for more from Lamarr "Baby J-Kidd" Kimble.

Funsport Junior Pros Recap: Briscoe Powers Team Scan

Isaiah Briscoe Shined Bright

Isaiah Briscoe scored 16 points and Austrian Robinson hit the glass hard as Team Scan (NY) defeated Elite NYC 49-33 at the Funsport Jr. Pros held in Brooklyn, NY. Jermaine Bishop found the hot hand for Elite NYC in the loss.

Top Performers

Isaiah Briscoe Guard (Team Scan)- It’s been a long while since I watched Briscoe rock and all I can say is Wow! This youngster has worked hard to transform his body and his game seems to have paid dividends. Isaiah got anywhere he wanted on the floor very easy and operated very fluid in traffic. He got up high on his pull up and had the explosiveness to drive past smaller guards. He always had a high basketball IQ but now his frame allows him to translate it on the floor. He has to be mentioned as one of the top guards in the region. Keep working young man!

Nassir Barrino Guard (Team Scan)- It was a typical day for Barrino. Showing cat quick moves and a sweet pull up his game is very poised and polished. He’s learning how to make moves without over dribbling the pill. I like how his game is rounding off.

Austrian Robinson Forward (Team Scan)- Robinson didn’t score much (6 pts) but he made it up on the glass (16 caroms). He was a defensive force inside by clogging the lane and blocking shots. I also like his motor and willingness to play both ends of the floor.

Jermaine Bishop Guard (Elite NYC)- Bishop sure can stroke it. He found his target on several occasions around arc. He also showed he can attack a little off the bounce.

Funsport Junior Pros Recap: Smith Leads Gauchos To Victory

NyRhique Smith Lead All Scorers With 17 Points.

NyRhique Smith scored 17 points to lead the Gauchos over Westchester Hawks 46-34 at Funsport Jr. Pro’s in Brooklyn, NY. Demarcus Miller had a good game for WH in the loss.

Top Performers

NyRique Smith Guard (Gauchos)- Smith had a solid game in terms of setting up teammates and finding his own offense. “La Smoove” was just that especially finishing in transition and cashing in at the charity stripe (5 for 6). His instincts and feel for the game is that of a high school player and is future looks bright.

Mustapha Heron Forward (Gauchos)- Heron showed me some developing ball handling and ability to create. But when it was money time he hit the high post and operated from the triple threat. He looked like a miniature Chris Bosh when he displayed his face up game.

Lu Lu Chisolm Guard (Gauchos)- Chisolm concentrates on playing defense. He got low and plucked several WH ball handlers. He was at the head of the press and made his presence felt often. He also got a chance to chip in a couple of buckets.

DeMarcus Miller Guard (Westchester Hawks)- The strong built guard had some early success by whizzing through the Gauchos defense and extending for buckets. He’s skilled and has good size for his position. His day ended early after he fouled out on a technical foul that should not have been called in my opinion.

Kylan Guerra Guard (Westchester Hawks)- Guerra helped his team take an early lead by stroking the trey ball. He set up in the corner and drained the open look before the defense converged.

Basketball Spotlight Season Preview: New Jersey 12U Preview

Will The New Name Bring The Same Results?

The basketball season has arrived and Basketball Spotlight will kick things off with our season previews. We decided to do breakdown each AAU district by age or area and give you an inside look to some of the teams. Here’s look at the New Jersey12U Division. (Remember some things can change because no rosters are set.)

Team To Beat: Team Final

Their apparent move to the Mid Atlantic is not official therefore we will leave them in NJ for now. This group made a huge splash last season while taking home “Team Of The Year” honors. They have some of the top guards around and are very well coached. We look for them to be very tough to beat and to collect a lot of hardware once again.

Dark Horse: Playtime Panthers

This team put together a decent campaign last season. They had some historic battles with F.A.C.E.S. while also representing in a few Spotlight events. This season they will need to be ready because they can’t sneak up on anyone.

Preseason Player Of The Year: Nate Pierre-Louis (Team Final)
Look for Pierre-Louis to pump in over 20 points per contest and lead his team to some big victories. The reigning POY can flat out get busy when giving the opportunity. He has to be one of the top players in the country for his class.

Preseason 1st Team
Nate Pierre Louis (Team Final)
David Kacheleries (Team Final)
RJ Cole (F.A.C.E.S.)
Boubacar Kamissoko (Playtime)
Terell Bonner (Playtime)

2nd Team
Kyle Lofton (F.A.C.E.S.)
Aaron Clarke (Team Final)
Harran Ransom (FA.C.E.S.)
Matthew Kacheleries (Team Final)
Mike Watkins (Playtime)

3rd Team
Louis King (F.A.C.E.S.)
Tyler Hawkins (NJ Shore Shots)
Lucas Hudson (Team Final)
Devin Jensen (NJ Shore Shots)
Drew Tyre (Playtime)

Grand Finale 08 Flashback (Team Nelson Win The Crown)

Dajuan Drennon scored 16 points and Lewis Hayes added 12 markers as Team Nelson held off a late rally to defeat the NY Panthers 59-56 to the Grand Finale 14 and Under crown. John Severe scored 20 points for the Panthers in the loss. The Grand Finale 2010 is shaping up as the best ever.

Check out this exclusive video of Trier from the All Star Game. I smell a Clash Of The Titans coming!

DC Assault 13's Wins Coach Wooten's 8th Grade Gold Crown

After a tough overtime loss to Fairfax Stars Elite Black, DC Assault (7th Grade) posted wins over Basic 1st (63-35), Black Top Celtics (53-44), & Run N Gun (53-51). DC Assault then met VA Assault in the Gold Championship and came away with a 52-43 victory. Right now DC Assault seems like a one of the favorites to win the Basketball Spotlight Grand Finale.

Diary Of A Baller: Malachi "Shoota" Richardson (Trenton, NJ) Entry #10

What's Up Everybody! It's the "Shoota" aka "Mr. Nice" coming at you. This was a very long week for me. I had three exams, I had to take my entrance exam for high school, and I got picked by my school to participate in the Scholastic Olympics. I know I did very well on all my exams, especially the entrance exam. As far as the Scholastic Olympics goes, I've been going over some material so I'll be prepared.

Monday, we had a game in the high school league at Haddon Heights High School we won the game, I don't remember the score. Tuesday I had practice with team final at Life Center. For the little bit of time I was there we worked on shooting, and creating space on our shots. Later that night I had two school games at Notre Dame high School we won both games, the second game was close which was surprising but we pulled it out. A few high school coaches were there checking out different players.

Wednesday, we had our playoff game in the high school league at HHS. They were beating us the whole game, they basically outplayed us for 35 minutes. With like five minutes left in the game we finally got after it defensively, that changed the game. With 1:05 left in the game "Fresh" tied the game up with a hard drive to the basket. We got a steal and then held the ball until it was 10 seconds left, Sam did a dribble drive kick to me with 3 seconds left. I was WIDE OPEN on the wing for a 3, I knew when it left my hands it was good. That was the first time I ever hit a game winning shot with time running out (NCAA style)..lol. I gotta give a shoutout to my boy "Shizz" for hitting some key shots and getting after it on the defensive end, everybody followed his lead.

From Thursday to Saturday, I had two Team Final practices and two school games. At my practices we went over our plays and my school team won both games.

Saturday night we celebrated my Dad's birthday, gave him a Cowboys cake...l..o...l. Finally on Sunday, I got a chance to just relax.

Next week........
"Mr. Nice"..lol.

Diary Of A Baller: Otis "The General" Livingston (NJ Got Game) Entry #10

What's happenin'?

It's "The General" again, back at you with another week of ballin' and school. I got my last two quizzes of the marking period back this week. I got a 93 on my Math quiz and a 95 on my Spanish quiz. I'm happy that I finished the quarter strong. My school practices went well. I think that my team is going to be even better this year because we are experienced and we work hard. I can't wait until we start having games. I got a lot of shots up with my Dad during my brother's practice, but by the end of the week my knees and achilles were bothering me so I took a couple of days off and rested. It gave me a chance to read a lot. I read my book, The Last Hero, by Rick Riordan. You might find it geeky or weird, but I'm into the Greek mythology books. You know I was in the building when, "Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief" came out. LOL! I also hung out with my boys Austin Goodluck, Azzur Taylor, and Omari Dill-Pettiford. On Fridays we always chill at our local pizzeria.

On Saturday and Sunday Got Game was in a 15u tournament at Wayne PAL. The first game we lost by 4. We had a lead, but we made some mistakes and they capitalized on them and beat us. I was disappointed because we could have beat that team, but we didn't earn it that day. On Sunday we bounced back and beat Wayne Wolf pack by a lot. Everyone was hitting their shots and we were flowing as a team. Shout out to Ashton and Lateef who helped us out when we were down a couple of players. We ended up finishing 2nd in our pool and had to play the 2nd place finisher in the other pool, which was St. Michaels (formerly Triple Threat). I was hoping to play them all weekend and I was happy it worked out that way. We got out on them early and just ran our plays and executed. They made it tough though because they make you work hard for every basket. It was a spirited game because I know so many of the players (both my brothers play for the St. Michaels program), but we were able to maintain our lead. What I am most proud of though is that we held them to 40 points. My Dad always tells me that defense is what wins games. He was right... again.

Until next week,

The General

P.S. My brothers played in the same Wayne tournament. KiKi's team played 11u and they played hard. They didn't win any games, but it was their first time out and they were playing older teams. Marcellus' team played well. They went 2 and 1. In their second game Marcellus had 8 threes! Good job boys!

Diary Of A Baller: Lamarr "Fresh" Kimble (Team Final) Entry #10

Hello Basketball World,

It’s your boy "Baby J-Kidd". Lol.... This week was about going over the basic and little details of the game. Monday Team Final had a game, we played against Trenton Catholic. We won by 6 points, we executed very well down the stretch and that’s how we got the win. Tuesday, Team Final had practice; we went over the basic things like footwork, setting screens, and defense. Wednesday Team Final had our first play-off game; we started off very slow and were down 13 to 2. We trailed the entire game because we weren't playing defense and they were out rebounding us. Down to the last five minutes we started playing hard nose defense. We got into the passing lanes causing numerous turnovers. I made a lay-up to tie the game up 47- 47. When we got position again it was 1:08 left and we held the ball under 10 seconds. Then Sam had the ball, he drove kicked the ball out to Malachi and he knock down the game winning three. We won 50 to 47.

Thursday, Team Final had practice and we went over a lot of plays and got a lot of shots up. Friday, I had a game at Aztecs Future Legends League. We played against the Aztecs 15's. We lost by 11, but played good being under sized. The game was up tempo and very physical. Saturday, I went to the barbershop to get a shape-up because it was getting ugly. Lol.... Team Final had another light practice later on and we were working on getting the plays down pack with the new additions on our team. Sunday you know I chilled out and watched sports. I watched my old head Dion Waiters (Syracuse) go at Canisuis. Til next week remember "Once you quit it becomes a habit".

Stay tuned for more from Lamarr "Baby J-Kidd" Kimble

Nike Challenge Camp Day 2: Guards "R" Us (Class 2017)

Remy Martin Was Ultra Smooth In California

Basketball Spotlight was on hand again for Day 2 of the Nike Challenge Camp in Los Angeles, California. Here’s a look at some of the Baby Ballers that went hard to close out this event.

Day 2 Top Performers (Class Of 2017)

Remy Martin Guard (Burbank, CA)- Martin capped off a brilliant weekend with a dazzling performance during the All Star Game. He caught fire during the second half and drained about 4 treys in a row. Prior to the All Star Game he tormented the opposition by scoring every way possible. He dominated the camp on this age level.

Damon Harge Guard (Mountain House, CA)- Harge showed the quickness that makes him special at this young age. His ability to handle the ball gracefully with either hand dazzled the crowd and confused most defenders on this level. This youngster will become even better as he matures.

Kihei Clark Guard (Resada, CA)- Clark also was a crowd pleaser as he penetrated down the throat of the defense. This young spark plug plays the game with good flair and supreme confidence. I will be checking for him during the season especially when he hits the 12U Nationals in Virginia.

Lamelo Ball Guard (Chino Hills, CA)- This youngster caught my eye by banging home deep treys using a Jamal Wilkes type release. He uses this release because it allows him to shoot from deep but as he gets older and stronger I imagine he will move to a more traditional shot.

Bryce Zephir Guard (Carson City)- Bryce was a blur pushing the rock especially in the open floor. He dashed down the lane and made things happen. He’s a fierce competitor as he demonstrated by going so hard on the defensive end.

Myles Franklin Guard (Brea, CA)- Franklin has good size for a guard. He loves showing off his ball handling skills and throwing no look passes. I’m interested to see how he develops in terms of height and game. I see a little something there.

Troy Hall Guard (Victorville, CA)- Hall was another compact guard with a good skill level. He looked great in transition while displaying his pass first mentality. This cleaver ball handler will be one to watch in the upcoming years.

Tane Shedgewick Guard(Platenia, CA)- Tane is a spot shooter that moves well without the rock. If you leave him open and he sets his feet you can count it in the books. He's a very heady player.

Basketball Spotlight will be bringing more profiles, analysis and rankings from the Nike Challenge Camp which is turning into the premier West Coast Event.
